'The hotel staff saw everything': Guest enters hotel spa and takes another person's slippers, hotel staff show person security footage

When spending time at a hotel, you allow yourself to comfortably leave things around, as you know that the hotel is being monitored by security cameras and staff at all times. Otherwise, you simply wouldn't pay to stay the night. In this case, OP was staying at a very expensive hotel, and when I say expensive, I mean that a standard room typically costs over $500 a night. So what happened to OP's slippers was kind of bizarre. OP was visiting the hotel spa, taking off his slippers and leaving them on the side.

Suddenly he noticed someone else walking out in his slippers, which he said, were designer. It made no sense, as everyone in the hotel definitely had money to spare. He approached hotel staff, asking if they'd seen anyone walk around in his slippers, to which they replied yes, then whipped out security footage. This behavior begs the question… why do rich people feel the need to take things that aren't theirs when they can definitely afford to buy their own stuff? Boredom, perhaps? We'll never know.

Scroll down for the full, detailed account of events, and the outcome. For more, here is a waiter who found out via his manager that some unhappy customers had taken it upon themselves to not only complain to corporate head office but also try to get him fired for laughing at their demands while they were seated at the restaurant.

30 Majorly messy meals that really needed plates

Restaurants love to be hip and trendy, but at what cost?

There are two types of people: those who photograph their every meal, and those who just eat the food. Food bloggers and amateur photographers alike love to snap pictures of what they're dining on, and post photos to their socials for the whole world to admire. However, it's not exactly original to post just a plain old hamburger. No, your followers want to see you eat the weirdest stuff, it must be eye catching. That's the only reason I can fathom why these restaurants decided it's okay to skip out on plates, and instead have their customers eat off shovels and rocks

I really enjoy creative plating, but it should at least match the viscosity of the food you're chowing down on. For example, ice cream gets melty, and anyone over the age of 5 can tell you it should go in a bowl. Common sense seems to go out the window for some restaurants — they're really serving up ice cream on flat slabs. One place even put numerous scoops of ice cream in a "flight" on a flat surface. I can't begin to imagine how the waitstaff and bussers must feel about tables who leave half eaten ice cream. It must drip everywhere! If you do work at a trendy Instagram-able place, keep the faith — these trends won't last forever.

Up next, this woman was so annoyed at a hotel clerk that she tried to get her fired, but the clerk had a great idea for how to deal with the customer.

'Good luck finding any other work': 10+ nightmare bosses and the employees who stood up to them

Whether we like to remember them or not, we have all been in toxic work environments. Perhaps you were at the start of your professional life and you were concerned that all workplace environments and dynamics were like this. Perhaps you were working under a new boss who spent far more energy enforcing ridiculous rules and disparaging the work of their employees than fostering a strong working atmosphere. Perhaps you didn't say anything to your boss before you left the company and you desperately wish that you stood up to them. Or perhaps you did stand up to them, and it was an experience you'll never forget for either good or bad reasons. Regardless, there is some level of experience you have with a toxic boss.

Thankfully, you're not alone, and you are joining the company of these brave employees, who shared their stories of working under their nightmare bosses via this r/AskReddit thread. Some of these stories include a boss who screamed at their employee for not working after they showed up early, a boss who had their kid stalk employees to check if they were always working or not, and even a boss who forced his retired parents to work under him.

Keep scrolling below for these anecdotes, and hopefully, they will inspire you to stand up for yourself in the workplace if you haven't already. Heck, you might be working under a horrible boss as we speak.

'The mom is starting to realize she may have overreacted': Family insists on immediate help for bee sting, dorm employee embarrasses them

We can't all be calm under pressure. It's especially difficult to be calm when you're also hurting, as u/ihatevegtables shared in a story to r/MaliciousCompliance.

They recall the time they were working a college move out day. If you aren't familiar with the concept, that's when you're a student living in a dorm, and you have to move out at an assigned time at the end of the semester. You have to pack everything up — clothes, mini fridge, text books — and toss it in a big bin on wheels. If your dorm has an elevator, you will then stand and wait for the elevator for a very, very long time, as you and every other student on your dormitory floor try to get downstairs one at a time. Then, you have to haul your belongings to your car (or probably your parent's car, if we're being real), pack up, and leave. But now there's a line of cars, so you'll have to wait for that, too.

So yeah, move in and move out days are always a tad stressful. At least there are employees who are usually very kind and friendly who can help guide the process along. This employee tried their best to help a woman who'd gotten stung by a bee. But clearly this woman was overreacting. The OP made sure she wasn't allergic, she literally just had a regular old bee sting. Those do hurt…but I don't know if all the hullabaloo was necessary just for that.

After you scroll through this story, read about this boss who accidentally fired his employee, only for the employee to request 20x their salary to return to the workplace.

'Team morale took an absolute nosedive': Company loses two largest clients after firing employee

If there is one thing worse than an annoying boss, it's an annoying coworker. This coworker in particular got promoted, presumably because they were related in some way or another to upper management. That wouldn't be so terrible if they had any work morale whatsoever. Ten years ago, OP was working in a company that did salary packaging. The service that the company offered was basically collecting mortgage statements, rental agreements, credit card bills etc., and then advising their clients' payroll department how much money could be given tax-free to each employee in their pay.

The company was pretty successful, and OP was a client favorite. One day, the company made a big mistake, hiring a woman we'll call 'Rachel', who, according to OP, was awful at her job. OP had no clue how she had managed to snag a role but was further surprised when she actually got promoted. From then on, things just kept on going downhill. Finally, the operations manager called a meeting with OP and the other employees, who didn't exactly shy away from telling their boss all about Rachel and her lack of work ethic.

Even though they were promised that the meeting was a 'safe space', it clearly wasn't, as things that were bad, became unbearable. OP was written up for any and everything, and they quickly realized what was going on. Scroll down to read what happened next. Furthermore, this resident got even with their neighbor who kept leaving their garbage in his trash can.

'Karen got blasted by multiple Senior Managers': Nepo-hire Karen boss refuses to let worker take bereavement leave, they go over her head

It's no surprise that someone who isn't qualified for their management position might not be very good at doing it—what's surprising is the vigor that these people display when doing petty and cruel things to their subordinates, wielding and abusing every last shred of stupid power they have with enthusiasm.

At least in functional organizations, there are checks and balances to the abuse of power in the form of HR departments and upper managers who at least have an interest in reducing the organization's liabilities.

This delegate shared their experience of handling a nepo-hire boss, who refused to let another worker, Max, take their bereavement leave, repeatedly insisting that the worker provide evidence of their grandmother's untimely demise. When the delegate pointed out to the boss that the organization hadn't been following or recording Max's leave property, which according to their contract, meant that they couldn't be stopped from taking bereavement, the boss still refused to relent. It was time to go over her head—luckily, an upcoming meeting with the company's executives would set things right.

Read on for the delegate's tale of malicious compliance, originally shared with the popular Reddit sub of the same name.

'Well, howdy doody and yee-haw': A memein' good roundup of rootin-tootin funny cowboyin' memes from this week

Blame it on our roots, we came in with our joots. If you don't know what joots are, they are boots made from jeans. Only true blue memein' cowboys would understand that. The kind of cowboys that go "yee-haw!" at the sight of a funny jab from the wild wild web. Oh, what happened to smack my grits and call me gravy? Nah, pardnor. We're more of a lasso my memes, and call me a cackle. We ain't your typical rootin' tootin' funny folk, we're expert meme farmers. Or should we say ranchers? Heck, I'd say memes are livestock, so maybe we are ranchers. Just a coupla internet ranchers tryna make it famous in the meme rodeo. Believe us, this ain't our first rodeo. This ain't even our 100th. We've been rodeoing memes since we were kids. That's right. Those kids who would put emo music lyrics as their away message on AIM are now the cowboys, cowgirls, and cowtheys running the show here. Hope you have a good rootin' tootin' time below.

'I was just trying to help!': Coworker tries to hijack couple's wedding by doing all the planning, bride shuts it down

There are certain people in life who enjoy inserting themselves into situations where they are clearly not wanted. This coworker was invited to the Redditor and his wife's wedding as a courtesy, but she decided that it was important to her to assist in the planning despite not taking into account the tastes of the bride and groom. She honestly sounds like an absolute nightmare to deal with.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/EntitledPeople subreddit by u/Nachtjaeger68, and let's just say that this bride was quick to shut this annoying coworker down. Thankfully, the bride and groom were able to have the exact simple, corny wedding they wanted despite the efforts of this lonely, intrusive, "wedding planning" coworker. It turns out that the coworker did get emotional when she was told to back off, pleading that she was only trying to help. The reality is that she really wasn't. She was merely inserting herself and making this entire event about her to fulfill some sort of inner desire. It's giving Rose Byrne's character from Bridesmaids, is it not?

When we say that the bride and groom's ceremony and reception were corny events, we mean it. We're talking lots of science fiction and D&D fans were present at the venue, and there were enough weird moments to please all of them. The only person who wasn't pleased at the end of the day was the entitled coworker, who at this point simply did not deserve to be validated.

'My old boss asked if I might have a copy of their entire company's directory': Employee laid off then asked to recover important documents a year later

Can you imagine having this much leverage and not using it to your advantage? It's almost as crazy as a company not keeping any records of important documentation like their entire directory before laying off most of the company. Oh, wait… both of those scenarios are happening here.

This Redditor was laid off about a year ago in a very unceremonious fashion. Essentially, most of the company was laid off at once with 30 minutes' notice at the end of a work day. It doesn't get much more savage than that. But there's more…

About a year later, OP heard back from their former boss who realized that OP was the only person who could potentially recover records of the company directory since they worked as the compliance officer there. It turns out they didn't keep any records of their own, and now they need proof of compliance in the new state where the company is now headquartered.

Hopefully, if OP listens to the feedback from folks in the comments section below, they will use this opportunity to their advantage and will ensure that they are paid handsomely for recovering this important information. After all, their former boss is going to have to comply with OP's wishes. They need this documentation in order to continue as a company in an official capacity.

Imagine if you were in this position with a former boss of yours who ruthlessly laid you off. It just goes to show that someone you think you may not need in a given moment could be the very person you do need in the next moment. For more content like this, here's a post about an employee who was asked to deduct money from their paycheck in order to be a "team player."

Update: 'Don't start a meeting by ending the meeting': Employee demands 20x their pay after boss accidentally fires them

This boss tried to bluff, only for their employee to call them out on it. While things didn't go to plan for the boss, their employee, u/exie610, got some amazing revenge.

Some managers have no respect for individual jobs. Instead, they'll insist that alongside your own job, you can also do the work of four or five other people. Why do one job excellently when you can do five jobs badly? At some companies, things are always run this way, either because the boss is a penny pincher, or because management is fine with having a high turnover rate. No one likes to feel undervalued and overworked, but if the money is right, some people will put up with it.

This person had a critical role at this company — they were responsible for accounts receivable and the customer database, a job that they often did remotely. The OP admits that they automated some parts of the role just because they could, making their job super easy while also completing the tasks of numerous people. Then one day, their boss tried to threaten their job. Unfortunately for the boss, he did such a horrible job of "motivating" his employee that he fired them moments into their meeting. Instead of inspiring his employee to work harder, he now had a former employee with no interest in going back to the way things were before.

Check out this excellent malicious compliance story below. Then, this woman couldn't stop complaining about her key card, so the manager "fixed" it for her.

'I quit on the same day': Worker quits on their first day after spotting multiple red flags at their new job

This story will be familiar to anyone who has worked in service or retail, with both entire industries being plagued by employers who require you to show up early—without being paid for it—or finish tasks after closing after being automatically clocked out when the doors locked. Managing these businesses isn't much better, earning only moderately better pay while being made to work more unpaid hours that actually pushes your earning back down to (or below) minimum wage.

Combine this with chronic understaffing—to the point where workers are often forced to skip breaks out of necessity—and it's no surprise that there are a lot of people working these jobs who are completely burned out.

That's not to say that every location or every employer is like this—so it's not easy to see the signs and red flags during the interview—but the cracks usually become readily apparent as soon as you start if you know what you're looking for.

This worker began to notice some bad signs at their new job when their coworkers referenced coming in early to ease the workload and skipping their breaks as if it was normal. They decided to call it and called it quits on their first day.

See their story below, originally shared with an online workplace discussion community. Next, see this worker who was fired after giving her notice while her employer also torpedoed her new role.

'I felt like I was on a prank show': Waitress and manager insist customer needs to pay for meal for a random stranger

Have you ever been in a situation so bizarre you were sure there must be TV cameras somewhere nearby? This bewildered customer recently had that experience, and it has commenters in a tizzy trying to figure out what was going on.

In an era of constant content, pranks are a popular way to make videos cheaply and easily. Even if they're not from official TV shows, you could run into TikTokers or other content creators who want a few quick reactions. That's even worse, in my opinion, because at least TV prank shows or movies have standards they hold themselves to. With the rise of social media, it feels like there's no place on Earth you can go without running the risk of being recorded. This person was aware of that when they went out to eat and had the most outrageous dining experience of their life.

Would you pay for a random strangers' meal? I think for most people, the answer would be no, unless the person's meal was really cheap, or if the person seemed like they were in dire need of the meal. Even then, a lot of people would also claim it's not their responsibility to feed some random stranger a meal at a dining establishment. This person didn't ask if they could dine on someone else's' tab, they just assumed it would be okay. I hope the OP does leave a bad Yelp review for this manager and waitress — they have to warn future diners not to get caught up in the same messy scenario.

Next up, these people shared their personal "craziest day at work" stories, like one dude who witnessed a coworker toss a printer right through a window.

'She stormed out without paying’: Hotel guest leaves without paying after front desk employee refuses to give her a refund

Employees in customer service should be paid considerably more for the number of things they have to put up with on a daily basis… and minimum wage just isn't cutting it anymore. In this case, OP was working the front desk of a hotel, and described her experience with a Karen guest as the worst she'd ever had, and that's saying a lot, considering OP has been in the business for over seven years. This particular lady's arrogance outweighed anything that OP had ever encountered.

Throughout Karen's stay, she found endless things to complain about. And at the end, when the time to pay finally arrived, Karen decided it was beneath her to pay for the service the hotel had provided, including her room. Karen told OP that she was not going to pay, under any circumstances. Then she stormed out. Scroll down to read what happened next.

'Can I tell my job the REAL reason why I’m leaving?': Man is ready to quit thanks to his wildly difficult new boss

One of the biggest questions people ask themselves when they're getting ready to part ways with the job is whether or not they should be honest about their reasons for leaving. Sometimes, you gain a great sense of catharsis by laying it all out on the line. Breaking down your grievances to your management team before walking away gives you the chance to get everything off your chest and bare your soul with brutal honesty.

But if you don't talk about your reasons for leaving, you definitely won't be burning any bridges. Without a burnt bridge, it's possible for you to return to that particular job in the future if things ever desperately need to. One man took to Reddit to ask the world whether or not he should explain his real reason for leaving his job

Ultimately, he's decided to put in his notice because the new boss he's been placed under has him doing the job of five people, working during his approved vacation time, and taking advantage of him in the most disrespectful ways. According to him, there's no way he'll stick around — regardless of any amount of money they might offer.

Sometimes, when you're done you're done. Redditors who responded in the thread are encouraging him to stay at the job while putting in minimal effort so he can continue getting paid. Others are encouraging him to quit in hopes that he'll receive a severance package. Others are frustrated with him for agreeing to go along with some of his new boss's disrespectful requests in the first place.

'Interviewer can't handle the truth': Dude gets denied employment after being brutally honest in an interview

When you've been stuck in the interview process for too long, it starts to get exhausting. Slapping a new smile on everyday, answering the same 3 questions, and thinking of how to spin your greatest weaknesses into positive, work-related gibberish feels futile. Sorry Patricia, my greatest weakness is not my overly strong work ethic… my weakness is an entire box of Little Debbie Shortcake Rolls. After a while, it's irresistible to throw a little spice into an interview just to shake things up and see how it goes. In this case, one man had grown tired with the dull interviewing process and in order to satiate the ravenous appetite of a recruiter, he reluctantly agreed to do an interview with a company he didn't care for.

Because of his blasé approach, OP found himself in a bit of a pickle, lackadaisically wandering into an employment trap and turning a simple question into lecture. Scroll for the full story of how one man showed his true colors to an interviewer after they asked him the driest, most boring question out there: "Why do you want this job?" …Cue the snarky, brutally honest response. After this, check out this story of a guy whose witty cleverness was actually rewarded when he used sarcasm to get out of an exorbitant hospital bill.

'He wouldn't stop singing Hamilton': Top 30 Funniest Reasons People Dumped Their Exes

Sometimes in relationships, things don't work out for bizarre reasons. We've all been in situations where we've been dumped unfairly (at least I hope we've all been there). But every so often you find yourself in a position where you have to be the person who breaks things off. At first, you're shocked. You've always been in the other role, so this is completely new to you. You're consumed with conflicting ideas about how to go about this, what you would like to hear if the roles were reversed, what needs to be said, and what definitely does not need to be said. You may even arrive at a place where you're considering staying with the other person because you're not a confrontational person and staying would just be easier. Thankfully, you think again and you realize that despite your issues with confrontation, this next step is absolutely necessary.

So you force yourself to break up with your partner. It's not an easy thing to do, and they probably didn't take it well (can you blame them?). But even if the reason behind the breakup seems so incredibly singular and unique, we guarantee you that it is not as weird as some of the reasons you'll find below. These reasons include strange similarities between your boyfriend and your father, ridiculous disagreements about the shape of the earth, and even conflicts over what kinds of food they will eat.

Keep scrolling below for this list of reasons why people dumped their exes. When you're finished, feel free to take a look at this list of text messages people should not have sent.

'For five seconds, I thought this was a T-Rex': 20+ Peculiar photos with confusing perspectives

Photography can be so much fun for amateurs and professionals alike. These days, almost everybody has an iPhone, meaning you have a super high-quality camera in your pocket all the time. It's never been easier to capture snapshots of the world we see around us.

These people below caught some really cool photos, whether intentional or not. They're the kind of pictures that make you pause for a moment and stare at it as you try and figure out what in the world is going on!

The best of these photos are the ones involving animals. They never know what's going on anyway, and they're content to laze around all day, as they should. Except for the cat who looks like she's sitting on a highway: she's a working animal on patrol, obviously.

'Why are you so short and snippy?': Employee with sick parent reprimanded for being in a bad mood at work

One simply can't be happy-go-lucky at work all the time. It's not realistic, it's not truthful, it's not honest. And aren't we meant to be all those things in the workplace? As we all know, life comes with its ups and downs, and the realities of adulthood often involve a balancing act that can at times feel like too much to take on at once.

This Redditor understands this concept all too well, as they were dealing with their ailing mother while trying to get through the work day five days a week. It got to the point that OP could barely perform a collected calm and started to get a bit abrasive at work. Everyone was informed of what was going on in their personal life, yet they continued to poke and prod. Eventually, OP was asked to go into a meeting with their superiors, who reprimanded them for being a curmudgeon. They showed no sympathy for what they were going through and even had the audacity to ask for their mother's estimated "expiration date" to prepare for the interrupted workflow. Seriously? Does it get more insulting than that? They were essentially treating OP's mother like a work conflict and nothing more.

Thankfully, folks in the comments section were generous and thoughtful, which ultimately makes this a more wholesome read. Keep scrolling below for the full story and for the best reactions. When you're finished, here's another story about an employee who was asked to deduct money from their paycheck.

‘Everyone left the company on my first day’: New hire gets left in charge of IT systems after everyone quits

When getting hired by a company, the last thing you'd imagine to happen would be everyone leaving on your first day. But that's what happened to u/mTbzz, who was hired as a sysadmin. This company was using some pretty obscure software from IBM, so OP was walked through it. He even met the other 2 senior sysadmins and they had a good talk about experiences and the job. The next day OP found out that all three of these people would no longer be working at the company, and he was left with systems he didn't know how to maneuver, with no accounts, and no manual.

The absurdity doesn't end there… OP was told that he must call ISP to negotiate a new deal and switch their internet company in order to save money. This was never in OP's job description, and OP promptly told his boss that they should request that someone else do it. Tough luck, as OP's boss didn't give in. Scroll down to continue reading about the unraveling of events.

'It was tense when she walked in': Rude Karen pretends to be friends with the District Manager, gets put in her place when he shows up

Work in any customer-facing role, and at some point, you're bound to encounter someone demanding special treatment because they're friends with the owners or some other upper manager. Nine times out of ten, these people are absolutely full of it, and mentioning their name to the owner or manager at a later date will be met with an eye roll, facepalm, or "Who?" No, this person isn't their friend; in some cases, they might be a mutual acquaintance, but what kind of friend would go into their friend's business, be rude to staff, and demand free or discounted items?

Sure, there are probably some jerk owners with jerk friends who treat staff poorly. This means it can often be hard to know when to comply with the "friend's" demands—to avoid being personally named in a complaint from someone who could be their closest mate—and when to shut it down.

When this entitled customer repeatedly treated staff at this chain restaurant poorly, name-dropping the district manager as if they were a close friend, they had the staff—who were worried about keeping their jobs—on a hook. It wasn't until the District Manager himself addressed the situation that her deceit was revealed—they were mere acquaintances and, even then, only through their kid's school.

Next, see this customer who left a 1-star review for a bike shop after they helped him for free.

'[My] software was the heart of the company': New management gets what they deserve after firing the IT guy who created their workflow software; he deletes the program on his way out

When you become the cornerstone of a company, it's unfathomable that management could ever fire you. In this case, a man who worked hard to become the heart and soul of a warehouse distribution company, was completely hoodwinked when management gave him the boot. OP had worked with the company for several years, cementing himself as a critical piece of the company's work flow. He took this a step further when he literally coded and created a new software (which was mobile AND desktop compatible) that allowed communication between the sales team and warehouse team to be seamless. With multiple gold stars on his lapel, OP felt invincible… That is, until new management came along.

OP's old boss was fixin' to retire and when he did so, a new haughty manager came in and stomped all over the playground, beating his chest like a red-faced bully to assert himself over his new lackeys. Keep on scrolling to read about how one simple malicious compliance set this company aflame when the new manager overstepped his boundaries and stepped on OP's toes. In this tale you'll find treachery, villainy, and a climactic end to one man's career in the warehouse.

Funniest Dating App Flops That Hit Rock Bottom

There are bound to be misunderstandings via text messages, especially between yourself and a stranger. On Tinder, your first sentence is often your last, as you get unmatched because some people didn't get your sense of humor. It's like walking on eggshells, you never know when one might crack. There are plenty of other issues when meeting someone you've only spoken to over text for the first time. More often than not, people don't look exactly like their photos.

Yeah, people think it's okay to upload a photo of themselves from 10 years ago… if you're that person, just… why? You know that when you meet the person in real life they'll catch on that you are no longer in your early twenties, and that it's okay, right? Oh well, we've all got our struggles. Some of these struggles are pretty funny, and you can find a whole bunch of them below, so scroll down and check it out. Then, here is an employee who closed the largest deal in his company, and then got fired anyway.

'The door closed and locked behind me': Delivery driver refuses to hold elevator for guy, guy locks them out of their office

It's always frustrating when someone refuses to uphold the most basic common courtesies. We're all in this together—well, at least we should be—so showing basic courtesy is the very least that you can do, even to a complete stranger. It's small acts of kindness like this and reciprocity that make society tick; should you refuse to participate, you might find the karmic pendulum swinging right back at you.

When this office worker witnessed a delivery driver getting into the elevator at his office, he was just a few steps behind; the delivery driver turned around in the elevator and made direct eye contact with the worker; the driver then proceeded to allow the doors to close in dramatic fashion just in front of the worker. The worker was, luckily, able to get to the next elevator up to their floor. To their surprise, their elevator actually managed to beat the delivery driver, who must have been delivering to their floor. The door to their office was locked, requiring a key card to enter; the worker allowed the door to lock behind them—just in front of the delivery driver—repaying the driver for their lack of courtesy with a delightfully inconvenient act of karmic revenge

'Can we have a female bartender': Top 10 Tales From Your Server This Week (July 28, 2023)

It's time to pay our respects to those who are living the server life. This week, we have a wide variety of restaurant and bartending fiascos, all of which were compiled from Reddit's r/TalesFromYourServer subreddit. Some of these stories include rude customers who insisted that they be served by a female bartender, a server who had to deal with a table full of influencers, a wholesome story of a Karen who actually learned her lesson and apologized, and even a mature hostess at a Hooters-esque establishment.

If these tales serve any moral purpose in this world, hopefully, they will inspire you to tip generously the next time you see an overworked server struggling to juggle way too many tables and customers at once. Not only do these servers deserve a generous tip, but also they're most likely wildly underpaid and undervalued by their bosses and customers. If you have been in their shoes before, you'll certainly understand what it is that they're going through on the job. If you haven't been in their shoes before, consider their experience and try to make their shifts easier before you ask to send your food back to the kitchen a third time.

Keep scrolling below for this week's collection of server tales. For more content like this, here are some top wholesome pickup lines!

'When he held out his hand for change, I dropped it on the counter': 20+ Cashiers who got the pettiest payback on their customers

Don't underestimate the pettiness of these fed-up workers. You'd be acting petty too if customers treated you the same way

Cashiers work so hard for so little recognition. If I was running things, all cashiers would be allowed to sit down, they'd be allowed to talk back to rude customers, and they'd all be paid at least $1 million per year. In reality, though, cashiers have to deal with the grouchiest customers one after another for minimum wage (and no sitting down either). You can only handle so many mean customers before you start to snap…so these cashiers shared the quietly petty things they do to get back at their worst customers.

Check out the prompt question from u/ItsMePeyt0n below, followed by lots of great suggestions for the next time a customer drops a handful of change on the counter, expecting you to scoop it up. I never knew there were so many cashiers who had no problem smushing a package of bread flat, or pressing their thumb on the scale while weighing the veggies of rude customers. It's the little things that matter.

'Having a window is "above my position"': Boss freaks out on office worker for moving desks to one that's too good for them

People will gatekeep the most insanely petty things in order to feel even a semblance of purpose and power. Name a hobby, sport, community, or industry—and I promise you that there are a number of people there who will make it as challenging as possible for you to join, contribute, or succeed in a way that they perceive might threaten their supposed authority.

We're territorial beasts, after all, with many of us being fueled by our ego's lust for significance, prominence, and recognition. Consistent and daunting reminders that we're a single fish in an entire ocean drives us to hunker down and carve off even the smallest slice in the smallest community for ourselves in order to preserve that special feeling we got from our parents growing up.

Once we've claimed this small privilege or position, the easiest way to keep other fish from growing legs and climbing the ladder we've just climbed is to pull it up behind you—or guard it as ferociously as possible—with whatever means necessary—to ensure that you keep your super cool fishy spot.

Fish and ladders aside, this happens frequently in workplaces, with workers ferociously guarding their tasks and special privileges or order to keep others from getting those same privileges.

It turns out even the spot you're working from is a guarded territory, and don't you claim too nice of a spot for else, or else one of your gatekeeping coworkers might message your gatekeeping boss to let them know that you had the audacity to work next to a window. If having a window above your position is "above your position,"—it might be time to find other work.

Read on for this worker's account of events that they shared with a popular online community for workplace issues.

Next, see this worker whose boss contacted their wife's phone repeatedly when they called off work.

Keep swimming, little fishes.

'You told me to sort this out myself, this is me sorting this out': Construction boss forced to move one ton of sand after he refuses to update his phone number

After moving to a new country, this dude kept getting phone calls from random callers. These days, most of us get a few random calls a day, but our phone often lets us know they're robo calls. That way, we don't have to answer them and talk to a robot or someone trying to steal our life savings.

However, this person had a more complex situation on their hands. They got a new phone number, but the previous person who'd had that number didn't bother to tell his clients about the number change. This was no issue for the previous guy. But it was driving the OP, u/fin008, up a wall. They were getting calls all the time, and had to constantly explain that they were not a construction company. Did the callers understand and accept this answer graciously? No, no they did not. Instead, they were super rude to the OP. One day, the OP decided to just let karma take care of the situation, resulting in calamity for the previous phone number owner

Up next, this hotel clerk shared a saga of a crabby guest and her cousin who decided they wanted the clerk to get fired.

‘They called corporate': Customers try to get waiter fired after he laughs at their demands

Customers are not your friends, and this case makes that perfectly clear. They stomp loudly into your restaurant, noses up in the air, demands rolling off their tongue. If you can't give them your full, undivided attention for the entirety of the time they are there, then what are you even doing with your life? OP was serving a table who came in with a rude attitude and continuously made his life hard with their special requests.

One of the customers at the table demanded OP get his food 'right now'. OP let out a nervous laugh, which set them all off. The customers demanded to speak to the manager, saying OP sucked and they wanted a different waiter.

Then after they left, they called corporate head office, trying to get OP fired because he was 'so rude'. These people should take a look in the mirror every once in a while. Below you'll find the full, detailed account of events. Then, an employee got his boss fired after being promoted her over.

20+ Misleading packaging and items that overpromised and failed to deliver

Managing people's expectations is one of the most important parts of any communication around service delivery. The last thing you want to do is overpromise and then not deliver on the expectations that you have set for yourself. Underdelivering on expectations will always end up with people being disappointed—regardless of if it's a business or personal relationship. It's far easier to set realistic expectations in the first place and then win them over when you exceed that just-average level of delivery they were expecting.

It's kind of like misrepresenting yourself on a dating app; if your profile is too good, you may get more matches, but then, when you meet in person, they're always going to feel at least a mild twinge of disappointment. Whereas if you were to set a profile that accurately represents you in the first place, your matches are going to be happy, relieved even, that you're the person they were expecting.

And that is a great example of how these items misrepresented what was in store for consumers; they're the catfishes of the packaging world.

'Have fun making 180 extra large pizzas': Pizza employee processes prank call orders to get back at boss

After this employee hung up on a potential customer, their boss decided to implement new rules. Did these new rules involve common sense? Not at all.

Teenagers have been making prank calls since the dawn of time; it's a right of passage to call up an establishment and ask them if their fridge is running. The OP writes that they got so many prank calls each day while working at a pizza restaurant that they got sick of hearing them. So they started hanging up on people who were asking for "boneless pizza" or asking, "Is this the Krusty Krab?" Unfortunately for the OP, they encountered a serious customer, and treated them like a prankster, which really annoyed that customer. So the OP's boss came up with a foolproof plan: simply treat every phone call as if it's a serious order.

As people in the comments discussed, it's not easy making rules as a boss. You have to know that your employees will break these rules or make mistakes — or in this person's case, take the rules way too literally. I'm sure the boss learned a lesson, but not before the OP got to prove their point.

Speaking of malicious delicious compliance, these deli workers sliced cheese all night long to prove their boss wrong.

'Walked out of an interview today': Interviewer low-balls EMT with $14/hr rate, rejects counteroffer and goes even lower, EMT walks out

$14/hr for a medical professional whose job is saving other people's lives? If that's not cause for concern, I don't know what is. If that's not a sign that we have a major problem paying people properly, I don't know what is. If that's not reason enough to walk out of the interview… say it with me, everyone: I don't know what is!

This thread was shared to Reddit by u/JodieBella, who had been working as a medical assistant making about $27/hour but wanted to get back into being a first responder. Clearly, she was not expecting what transpired during the interview, especially since the job posting specifically listed the salary range as $17-23/hr. Of course, this means accepting a rate of $23/hr and nothing less, especially since this Redditor already seems to have done this work in the past. She's experienced. She deserves the highest end of the range (and honestly, based on much of the feedback in the comments section below, considerably more than that amount).

But here's what happened when the interview officially began. The interviewer offered an embarrassingly low rate of $14/hr despite the range that was posted online. He seemed completely unbothered by that shady change. When OP gave a counteroffer of $16/hr (we believe she should have stuck with $23 for negotiating purposes), the interviewer went even lower and made a final offer of $13.75/hr. That was the final straw for OP (thank goodness!) and she walked out right then and there. We all know she would be paid better working retail, and this is someone who is saving lives! Ridiculous!

For more stories like this, here's one about an employee who pressured their boss into coughing up money for a well-deserved raise.

'They blew up her phone at work': Boss repeatedly calls worker's wife when he calls out due to family emergency

Your emergency contact is intended to be just that—for emergencies. Its intended purpose really isn't so that your boss and coworkers can call and tell on you for playing hookey from work like they're a teacher reaching out to an unruly child's parent.

'He thought we could increase productivity': Boss asks employee to run overtime math, then completely ignores calculations

When it comes to their boss's odd behavior, this person writes that they "just figured it out" after five years.

As a manager, you have tons of responsibilities. It's can be a lot of pressure — you have to answer to your own bosses while managing a bunch of people. You have to know how to prioritize, picking the most important tasks and getting to those first. And you also have to be cautious what you say to the employees who work underneath you.

In the comments, several people noted that as a manager, sometimes you have to do things that would be impossible to explain to your team. It might not always make sense to them right away, but maybe years down the line they'll understand. And, as many employees know, not every manager has your back. You may never know what your boss was really planning, unlike this person.

This OP shared a tale to the r/MaliciousCompliance community — and as they write, it took them five years to realize their boss was using them for malicious compliance purposes. Check out the entire story below. Up next, this boss cut weekend hours, causing chaos — then got upset when her boss yelled at her, and decided to get HR involved.

'The names on the headstone are all different': Karen demands to talk to cemetery manager over concerns with burial plots

The phrase "over my dead body" is typically reserved for extreme instances where you want to express desperate and dramatic opposition to a measure of change someone is trying to bring about.

'Company event was a cringe fest': CEO requires underpaid employees to attend company event, gloats about himself the whole time

No one wants to go to mandatory company events on your day off, so managers and bosses better make sure that employees who are required to go have a good time. First of all, these company events are usually after a tough work week, they usually involve way too much schmoozing for anyone's good, and they're usually wildly inconvenient in terms of location and time. All that happened with this Redditor, who was also an underpaid employee who primarily decided to attend the event because it meant there would be a free meal for her and her family.

So, she and her husband begrudgingly attended the event and it was all going as smoothly as it could have for a while. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits. The kids got their free meals. However, everything changed as soon as the tone-deaf CEO of the company decided to open his mouth and give a speech.

He proceeded to brag about her perfect his family is and how great the company is doing despite the fact that so many employees in attendance were struggling to make ends meet. Yet he continued to go on and on as if he had some chronic version of main character syndrome. The speech was about as cringe as it gets, and you can tell from the reactions from folks in the comments section that this is not a singular experience. So many employees have had to endure these kinds of speeches from their bosses. Maybe one magical day in the future, they will get the message that no one wants to hear this nonsense.

'He just took the printer and threw it out of the window': 15+ Employees share their craziest days at work

Most days in the workplace are ordinary and routine, so when something out of the ordinary happens, it can make for a memorable shift. These people know that all too well — they replied to u/Murkantilism's question, "What is the craziest thing you've seen somebody do at the workplace?"

Whether you work at a restaurant or retail establishment or an office, your place of work has a routine that everyone follows. Things can get a little dull after a while of doing the same exact things day in and day out. So it's a tad bit entertaining to witness a customer freakout or a coworker having a meltdown over something trivial.

I was surprised by the amount of shenanigans people managed to get into with forklifts. Forklifts do look extremely fun to drive around, so I get the temptation. For those without a license to operate such a machine, the temptation to drive it can lead to some major messes. It's not the same as a car, you really do need to have a license to drive it!

Check out all the hilarious crazy days people shared below. Then, have another laugh at these passengers who shared the wild things they overheard on airplanes, like one person who asked, "Are those snakes ok back there?"

Servers Discuss Goofiest Requests From Customers at Restaurants

Working in the service industry is one of the toughest to endure, as customers, management, and coworkers can really get under your skin. You need the patience of a sloth, the memory of an elephant, and the speed of a cheetah. Picture this: a family of eight, children sobbing whilst simultaneously drooling, parents at their wit's end just rattling off their order to you while corralling their children. Having a long list of dietary restrictions and substitutions to their order after demanding you explain everything on the menu for them. Sending you for drink refills every couple of minutes… the list goes on. And that's just one table.

Your face hurts from smiling because, after all, you can't be rude. To most people, at least. Despite the fact that some customers will ask you some pretty ridiculous questions, you have to keep your cool. Scroll down for the funniest, most goofy things that customers have actually said out loud to servers. For more like this, here is an employee who closed the largest deal in history for the company they worked for, and still got fired.

'Extra extra extra pickles': Chef shares his stories of petty malicious compliance to absurd customer requests

Restaurants see no shortage of demands for customization and demanding customers, with the latter uttering the former with surprising frequency. Dealing with these demands from the demanding is no picnic, but learning to handle them can be. Not in the literal sense in that you're going to sit down in a nice grassy spot with a blanket, basket, some nice cheeses, a bottle of prosecco, some ripe fruit, and your favorite pal—more so in the sense that like a picnic is a pleasing and relaxing experience for everyone involved, so too can dealing with entitled persons. Oh—and there is food involved in both instances.

This phrase is, of course, not taking into account the experience of the person responsible for planning the picnic, who may not be relaxed at all and may, in fact, be very stressed out due to all the planning, organization, and coordination necessary to pull off a successful picnic in the first place. For this person, a picnic is no picnic at all.

And still—the original point stands. If you're going to survive in the restaurant environment or retail—or any customer service role—learning to handle demands in low-stress ways is essential. One of the best ways to do this is by maliciously complying with suitable requests, technically fulfilling the rude customers order even if it's not exactly what they meant.

Read on to see this post originally posted on Reddit's r/pettyrevenge subreddit by a chef who shared some of his best examples of maliciously complying with customer requests.

'[I] automated my useless boss out of her job': Boss sneaks out of work to have an affair, employee automates every task she does

This boss thought she was getting away with sneaking around, but the entire office already knew her secrets

One basic rules of adult life is to avoid dating those you work with. There are billions of people in the world, so why would you want to date someone who you work with all day? It can lead to awkward power dynamics. Even if the relationship works really well, any cutesy behavior between the couple is sure to make the rest of the workplace uncomfortable.

This boss seems like she was "useless," as u/lungb*ng shared in this malicious compliance story. Kerry, this person's boss, was known for showing up late, calling off work last minute, and leaving work early. The cherry on top is that she was also having an affair with her boss. Maybe she thought she was concealing her relationship well, but it seems like the whole office caught wind of it.

As her employee, the OP was pretty annoyed by her accumulating time off, so one day, the OP took matters into their own hands. The best part is, they had the CEO on their side. It seems like the OP improved this workplace — and now their dating bosses have way more time to continue their affair.

Next up, these women were outraged that children on a beach were allowed to play with inflatable toys, so they complained to this lifeguard.

'I left the lid open for good measure': Resident gets even with neighbor who kept using their trash can, placing bin by their patio

Every apartment/home comes with a unique set of problems, unless you're Bill Gates, of course. Either your boiler keeps breaking down, your roof is leaking, or a pipe burst. Perhaps you don't have any of the above issues, but your neighbors are an absolute pain to deal with. Well, in that case, join the club… See, I've had a neighbor or two who made it their mission to make my life as miserable as possible, so I can definitely relate to OP, who was fed up with his own neighbor's rude antics. Yep, OP was certainly struggling…

Instead of using their own trash cans, OP's neighbors were using his. Not only were they using them, but they were disposing of some questionable items. If you're thinking, 'Gross', then yeah, it really is. Scroll down to read how OP dealt with his rowdy, infuriatingly rude neighbors. Top Hilarious Reasons People Gave for Quitting Their Jobs

People often wonder if they should quit, dreaming of greener pastures, or in other words, more money, better work conditions, and nicer coworkers. Also, let's not forget the most important thing of all… a good boss. Quitting your job can be easy, or hard, depending on how much you enjoy it. Once upon a time, I was working as a waitress, and let's just say that it wasn't hard at all to let go of rude customers, not great pay, and long nights cleaning bathrooms. But hey, I had some pretty legitimate reasons to hate it. Of course, every reason is legitimate… but still, some reasons are sort of, well, weird.

This particular Reddit post asks, 'What is the strangest or weirdest reason someone gave for quitting their job?'. Well, as usual, Reddit has a lot of good answers. People gathered to share their own experiences… scroll down to read what they said. For more, here is an employee who got fired after closing the largest deal the company had ever seen.

'They were immediately let go': 30+ Stories of people who got fired on their first day

Starting a new job is never easy… there's so much unknown and uncertainty before you even step foot in the door on your first day, and it's easy to let that stress get to you. Once you step foot in the door, even if you've worked in the industry for years, there are always new processes and procedures to be followed, and different approaches and understandings achieve the same thing in a slightly different way. There are new relationships to start, first impressions to be made, and egos to soothe and avoid. Every step along that path must be followed with relative precision, and one small misstep can see you sent packing back to wherever you came from. The reality is that, although it might feel that way, it's never usually that treacherous, and most people who got fired on the first day managed to completely miss essential social queues and refused to listen to blatantly obvious workplace rules. If you really have to walk on eggshells as much as your anxiety is telling you to, this job might not be somewhere you want to work long-term.

These people gathered to share their stories of that person who got fired on their first day and stories of other people who managed to get fired in record time—sometimes even before their first day had started.

'My boss keeps calling me when I'm home with pneumonia': Boss texts sick employee 15+ times asking for 'quick tasks'

There are bosses with empathy, and then there's this dude. U/yodascousinkevin told this surprising story of what happened when they came down with a bout of pneumonia, only to find out their boss just would not leave them alone.

We all want to feel unique and special and irreplaceable at our jobs. We want to think that the work we do is exceptional, and that the place just wouldn't run the same without us. In reality, everyone is replaceable. No one told that to the OP's boss, though, who is acting like the building's on fire without them there. They're quite literally treating the OP like the company can't run if they miss even a single day of work.

Interestingly, in the comments, no one could agree who was in the right. Most encouraged the OP to report their boss's rapid-fire messages to HR, and told them they weren't the a-hole. A few others said the OP should have known better than to have no replacement for them, but that's more of their boss's responsibility than the OP's. And finally, others said everyone sucks here. They believe it'd be rude for the OP to block their boss's number. Maybe HR will let the OP do that anyway, and give the boss a scolding for bothering OP while sick in bed.

Next up, these employees got fired at light speed for making hilariously dumb mistakes.

15+ Texts People Should Not Have Sent

We have all had a regrettable texting moment, haven't we? It could have been an impulsive moment of passion, a complete mistake, or a total misread of the situation.

While you sit there and pretend that this kind of thing has not happened to you, I'll chime in and admit that it's happened to me on multiple occasions. I once was on my way to brunch with an ex-friend I didn't like and texted my other friends that I was fully not looking forward to it. Except I didn't text my other friends that…I texted the person I was literally about to meet in five minutes.

Here's a more vulnerable one. I once went on a walk with a date and threw an unhinged tantrum at the guy after he didn't text me back within 24 hours. Let's just say I was recently out of a relationship, so there were definitely other factors that affected my behavior at that moment.

Keep scrolling below for these wild text exchanges. When you're finished, check out this collection of the top Karens of the week!

'You're so beautiful, why would you do this to yourself?': Waitress deals with customers disgusted by her tattoos

Plenty of people love getting tattoos because they feel like they're an artistic and creative way to express themselves. Some people view tattoo art as a way of turning their bodies into somewhat of a canvas where they can showcase meaningful images and messages. Not everyone in the world feels that way, though – Especially when it comes to the boomer generation and above.

A woman working as a waitress took to Reddit to complain about the current situation she's dealing with on the job. Instead of being able to show up for work serving tables and earning a solid amount of tips to pay her bills, she's constantly fending off negative commentary from judgmental clientele who don't love the tattoo art she has on her skin.

Since her tattoos are mostly visible in places like her arms, it's difficult for her to hide them from the world on a daily basis. she explained that she's been called "disgusting" and "ugly" by people who've seen her serving tables. She also receives disgusted looks from people who appear to be completely grossed out. Redditors with similar serving stories have flooded the comment section with their two cents.

'Our place was fined': Overworked employee has to take on incompetent coworker's job, maliciously complies and gets boss in trouble

Taking over for your coworker in a time of crisis is the nightmare to end all nightmares. First of all, even if they are competent at their jobs, you're suddenly thrust into a completely unrealistic situation in which you are supposed to perform your current duties and your coworker's duties within the same work hours. And let's be honest: you're probably not getting paid any extra for this unless you start making demands.

Now, what happens if the coworker was incompetent and left you to pick up the pieces of a complete mess? Well, after you hide in the bathroom and have your 15-minute nervous breakdown, you return to your desk and get started. You ensure that as you're uncovering what went wrong, you make it clear that you are not at fault for what you're reporting. You're merely trying to decipher what your coworker did. That's what happened to this Redditor, who was already resentful of this coworker because they had managed to achieve an unfair, "untouchable" status despite being absolutely awful at her actual job.

The Redditor kept on with their report and uncovered the truth about just how much money the company owed. Keep scrolling below to see what happened when they updated their boss about the whole situation. Let's just give you a preview first and say that all the higher-ups in the company ended up having to get involved.

'I have a coupon': Customer tries to order pizza from an arts and crafts store

A Karen calls an arts and crafts store and demands a pizza… No, this isn't a punchline for a joke—but everyone who has worked in restaurants or retail wishes that it was. These workers have seen their fair share of wild demands and demanding wild persons—and it only takes one screaming customer meltdown in the lobby of your establishment to make you reconsider your entire line of work. But at least in person, most people have the good graces to behave politely, but phone conversations and email exchanges are another story, that one step of removal emboldens a surprising amount of people to say and do insane things in the same way that "keyboard warriors" are quick to jump down your throat with negative comments online.

'We don't want a dog': Aunt buys nieces puppy as a surprise present without asking their parents, dad loses it

In my completely unbiased opinion, dogs might be one of the greatest creatures on this earth. Though, it remains a fact that they're a lot of work—work that is worth it if you have the patience, time, and money… and are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to ensure that they have a good quality of life and that you're being a responsible owner.

If you think bringing a dog into your life doesn't require a huge change in lifestyle and responsibility—then I really worry about your poor dog and the people affected by your irresponsible ownership. For, when you take a neglected dog out into public spaces, it becomes a burden on everyone else.

Giving someone the gift of this immense responsibility without first making darn well sure they want it is—well—insane. Heck, giving someone a plant as a gift can even be too much responsibility for some people, let alone giving them what is essentially the 'lite' version of parenthood. There will be bills to pay, food to be purchased, training to be done, and 5 AM potty breaks to be overseen—you can't just give everyone all of that as a surprise present. It's basically making a split-second decision for someone and going, "Here you go! Enjoy the next 8-12 years of your life!"

So, when this husband, father, and brother shared his experience on an online community, it was easy to see why readers resoundingly took his side. His sister, a "dog mom," brought her nieces home from an outing, bringing with them a furry guest—to the parent's horror. There had been no conversations and no warning about the surprise gift, which led to the parents deciding to take the puppy to the pound.

Read on for the husband's account of events and the verdicts that readers posted in the comments. Next, see this friend who wanted to stay with a family while he was down on his luck but demanded that the family get rid of their dog first.

'He manages to destroy more than $2 million in material': 20+ Employees and their coworkers who made giant mistakes at work

These people shared the biggest and funniest ways they've ever messed up at work. Maybe they didn't find it funny at the time, but looking back on your mistakes can be hilarious.

Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and some are much more serious than others. U/headtotoe asked people to tell about the worst mistakes they've ever made in the workplace. After a little bit of pushing from commenters, the OP shared the mistake that led them to ask the question. They wrote that at their data entry job at a newspaper, they input some wrong digits. In turn, their mistake trickled down to the mail carriers, who didn't have enough papers to give to each customer. Then, those customers got annoyed that they didn't get their newspaper subscription, and complained about it to the company. Then, the OP writes, they did it again the next day! It's impressive how one mistake can lead to a cascade of other things gone wrong.

These people who shared their stories below are from all types of industries, from waiting tables to working in IT to working in the legal field. Check out all the responses below, and next time you make a mistake, remember that someone else has definitely done something worse.
