He doesn't like "spicy" food, and she had to beg him to go with her. When the food came, it was too spicy for his liking, he began to make a scene—sending (perfectly good) food back to the kitchen, demanding less spicy dishes. After his wife told him to just eat the rice (since that's the only food his delicate palate could handle), he got up and left in a huff—solidifying his wife's humiliation.
