'My parents disapproved of him': Woman sets her judgemental parents straight by disclosing how much her fiancé's construction company earns, upsetting both parties

It's frustrating when someone can't keep a secret, especially when you've literally just finished telling them that secret, and the words are barely out of your mouth before they're sharing it with everyone. Of course, you learn to never disclose your secrets to that person after being burned once by their blabbermouth, but it's a little more complicated when that person is your spouse.

It's also never easy living with a family who disapproves of your spouse due to their own haughty bias and preconceived notions. It feels like you can never win and their constant disapproval of the person who is most dear to you starts to erode all of your familial relationships.

The original poster writes that she fell for her fiancé when he supervised a roofing crew at her house who were replacing damage to her roof. When they first started dating, he was vague about his job, but later revealed he owns a construction company, eventually also revealing that he has significant rental income from corporate real estate that he owns.

The entire time they have been together OP's family has disapproved of her fiancé and makes snide remarks about him, insinuating that he is beneath her.

This came to a head when, while preparing for the couple's wedding, her parents mentioned a prenup. OP blurted out the fiancé's earnings, claiming to defend him, but he got upset at her for revealing his secret, and her family is also mad that she had been keeping this from them.

This has left OP stuck in the middle and unsure of what to do.

Readers declared OP to be in the wrong for telling her parents, largely voting "YTA" (You're the a-hole.) They felt that she had told her parents to defend herself and her parent's opinion of the kind of men she'd go for rather than to defend her fiancé himself.

'I will call a tow truck if I have to': 20+ Mildly Infuriating Moments of the Week (August 17, 2023)

When you have an annoying few moments, don't let it ruin your whole day. You only have so many minutes in a day, and if you spend it ruminating on something that ticked you off, you're wasting your precious time. Instead, do what these folks did: share your mildly infuriating moment with the internet.

Misery loves company, and there's plenty of different infuriating moments that people have brought to the table lately. One that sparked lots of attention was the person who was stuck at a rainy concert. They were supposed to see Beyonce, but they mostly saw the back of someone else's umbrella. The OP said they asked the person to lower their umbrella, to no avail. It's even sillier because if everyone is already getting wet, why wouldn't this concertgoer join in?

Someone else shared their devastating sandwich. It's the final photo here, and it barely qualifies as a sandwich. The person shows a half slice of bread with the most meager amount of toppings. It looks like an airport sandwich — a food that's notorious for being $16 for the worst, tiniest sandwich you've had in your life.

Check out all these mildly irritating moments below. Then, these memes are for Gen Xers only.

'Don't believe I have the flu?': Night shift worker forced to come into work despite illness, maliciously complies and gets sick in front of boss

Some toxic work environments have got to amend their sick day policies. Here, we have an employee who was told that he had to come into work to be assessed about whether or not they were truly sick enough. The Redditor explained that as a night shift supervisor, there were instances in which this kind of assessment was important. However, when it came to illness, it's better for everyone involved if employers just took the employee's word for it. Not only is it best for everyone involved health-wise, but also employees are entitled to sick days and they can do whatever it is they want with those days.

Now, this Redditor wasn't using his sick day for recreational purposes; he actually had the flu. However, he was of course forced to come to work anyway for this bogus assessment. Here is where the malicious compliance comes in. Sure, OP showed up when he was supposed to, but it didn't mean that he was going to control himself. Let's just say that OP left a nice present for his supervisor, which also served as more than enough proof of his flu-like symptoms. Let's hope the supervisor also got sick too, since he was the one enforcing a policy that endangers the health and wellbeing of every employee there.

‘You didn’t do your job, now you won't get one': Receptionist fails to make travel reservations for supervisor, supervisor opens her own company and refuses to hire her

People you work with will have certain expectations of you, and when given the opportunity, can cause a few inconveniences if and when you don't meet said expectations… in other words, people like to be petty. In this case, OP got as petty as petty can get, when she got a shot at making a former coworker's life a little harder than it needed to be. Back in the day, OP was working as a supervisor at a company, and her job included a lot of travel. There was a conference she needed to get to, so she approached the receptionist, whose job it was to make travel arrangements.

OP knew that making flight arrangements ahead of time meant that flights would be cheaper, and she was anxious about making the company spend more than they already had to. After a few days went by, and she hadn't received a confirmation from the receptionist, she approached her again. The receptionist kept putting her off, and the airfare ended up costing more than it should have.

According to OP's post, nobody actually cared that the airfare cost more (besides OP, that is), but she still decided to be petty later on anyway. Scroll down to read what that pettiness entailed. Next, check out this roommate who got revenge on her other flatmates after they kept eating her food. Hint… they were vegetarian, and she… was not.

'I gagged, took my apron off, and left': Jaded employees recall the horrors of when they quit a new job on the first day

There are certain things that every employee needs to keep their eyes peeled for on their first day of work. Primarily, every new hire needs to ask themselves, 'Is this job going to be worth the hassle?'  Now, obviously we all work in order to get that paycheck every two weeks, but for some jobs, the money just isn't worth it. Take these stories of work nightmares, for example. In all of these cases, each employee came in to work on their first day, fresh-faced and ready to start to train, and before their shift was up, decided that there were some deal breakers in the workplace that couldn't be overlooked.

Scroll down for these employee's "I'm outta here" moment that rocked the workplace, shook them to their core, and possibly scarred them for life. These tales are the kind of horror stories that make you appreciate your own workplace. However dull and mundane it may seem, at least you don't have to sift through the scent of rotting vegetables, run petty errands for your boss, or clean a 3000sq ft house in 1.5 hours. Grandpa Builds Tallest House in Town for Family, Only to Drain the Equity, Leading to Foreclosure

When buying a property and beginning to build on it, you need a bunch of permits, and the house needs to pass inspection, which won't be possible if you don't build according to country code. But sometimes, if you're smart enough, you can dodge the rules, and make up some of your own. It doesn't always work, but when it does, it's quite something. In this case, OP shared a story about his 'shady' grandpa, who according to OP, was a very smart man, but also, not the greatest person in the world.

He found a way to avoid doing what inspection told him to when he bought a house, enabling him to build the tallest house in the entire town. He then rented this house out to his son, OP's dad. Unfortunately, as previously stated, Grandpa was sort of a shady man. He began missing mortgage payments, and one thing led to another…

To read a full, detailed account of the events, you are welcome to scroll below. But I'll give you a fair warning… this story doesn't exactly have a happy ending. It's one of the more realistic ones. For more stories like this, here is an employee who found out a coworker was making 16k more than them, and when they asked for a raise, they were denied one.
