Tumblr Thread On Purple Rhymes Goes Off The Rails

Tumblr has the tendency to well, tumble. And exactly that happened here. What started as an observation on violets turned into a historical rhyme on the concept of purple, which then turned into some well timed and tastefully executed filth. For more Tumblr color nerdery, here's an explanation of why magenta isn't a real color. And for random fun, here are Tumblr gems to keep the day moving.

1.

Text - gallusrostromegalus S aerialsquid Follow satanpositive Roses are red, that much is true, but violets are purple, not fucking blue. feels-for-the-fictional I have been waiting for this post all my life. marzipanandminutiae They are indeed purple, But one thing you've missed: The concept of "purple" Didn't always exist. Some cultures lack names For a color, you see. Hence good old Homer And his "wine-dark sea."

2.

Text - A usage so quaint, A phrasing so old, For verses of romance Is sheer fucking gold. So roses are red. Violets once were called blue. I'm hugely pedantic But what else is new? ineptshieldmaid My friend you're not wrong About Homer's wine-ey sea! Colours are a matter Of cultural contingency; Words are in flux And meanings they drift But the word purple You've given short shrift.

3.

Text - The concept of purple, My friends, is old And refers to a pigment once precious as gold. By crushing up molluscs From the wine-dark sea You make a dye: Imperial decree Meant that in Rome, to wear purpura was a privilege reserved For only the emperor! The word 'purple', for clothes so fancy, Entered English By the ninth century

4.

Text - Why then are voilets Not purple in song? The dye from this mollusc, known for so long Is almost magenta; More red than blue. The concept of purple is old, and yet new. The dye is red, So this might be true: Roses are purple And violets are blue

5.

Text - squeeful While this song makes me merry, Tyrian purple dyes many a hue From magenta to berry And a true purple too. But fun as it is to watch this poetic race The answer is staring you right in the face: Roses are red and violets are blue Because nothing fucking rhymes with purple.

Bad Choices That Resulted In Undeniable Fails

It's like a real life version of The Sims. There's no denying it; these were some bad choices that resulted in ultimate failure. Life's all about those attempts, and if you're aware enough, you learn from the mistakes that can result from said attempts. We're hoping that the masterminds behind these bad choices were able to reflect, and learn from their handful of mistakes.

Dude Gets Petty Pizza Revenge on Entitled Coworker

After this guy's coworker bullied the office mom to get his way, he stepped in to make sure his coworker's selfish pizza plan didn't come to fruition. The world has its fair share of entitled people and their wild demands, and a whole lot of people who get inadvisable but satisfying petty revenge.

1.

Text - r/pettyrevenge - Posted by u/anon98199 1 day ago Coworker complains about free pizza So I was told this belongs here as well. Please enjoy So one of my coworkers is a huge choosing beggar. Like aggressively choosy to the point he will bully people who are buying him free things to get exactly what he wants. This normally doesn't affect me as I have learned to just tell him to fuck off (of course he always complains and pretends like I just attacked him out of nowhere but that's not the po

Text - food ordering and general paperwork stuff in our office is a super sweet older lady that isn't comfortable telling people no. One day we had pizza for a lunch meeting and we all realized that the favorite pizza of everyone in the office which she only ordered 1 of (at the time. She's learned to order more) was obviously different. I forget exactly what got left off but half of it was not what it normally comes with. I went and talked to the person who ordered it and she straight up told m

Text - compromise). Ticked me off because my favorite pizza was ruined and he bullied this woman who we all affectionately call the office mom. But whatever right. It's free pizza I'll just get something else and I'll live. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I noticed that he hadn't even touched the pizza. He was eating a different one. I decided to casually ask why he wasn't touching it. Come to find out he didn't actually want any during that lunch he knew he wanted something else

4.

Text - So you want to guess what I did. I ate it. All of it. I didnt want more than 1 piece but I ate all 6 pieces of a half pizza just so he couldn't have any. You can bet your ass he complained about it too. I just looked back and was like oh sorry did you want some during this meeting. Cause if I had known you wanted it today I would've saved you some. He glared at me for about a week and I felt like I just ate Thanksgiving dinner but worth it.

Twitter Thread: Importance Of Science And Technology Education

There are people in this world that think that Wi-Fi and internet are the same thing. Just let that percolate for a second. Okay, moving forward, we live in an era completely dominated by technology, and that very technology continues to evolve at the kind of rapid pace that makes it pretty much impossible to keep up with. I mean, sh*t, we're looking at a future where we'll have the option to put actual computer chips in our brains thanks to Elon Musk. How about we don't go there?

1.

Text - Sulka Haro @sulka I think Clarke's Third Law, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" has emerged in full force during the last 10 years and its having a profound effect on the society. A thread: 11:40 PM · 31 Aug 20 · Twitter for iPhone

2.

Text - Sulka Haro @sulka · 15h Replying to @sulka We all carry phones that are more powerful than supercomputers not too long ago, better cameras than most film cameras most people owned etc. Internet messaging is increasingly real time. Machine learning algorithms can perform tasks that look human. 1 27 4 76 Sulka Haro @sulka · 15h Most people have no idea who all of this works and don't have the skills and knowledge to start breaking down the technologies to comprehend what's going on. This is

3.

Text - Sulka Haro @sulka · 15h Now that people are used to using devices that feel magic - “I know this is a device but I have no idea how this works" - the ground has become fertile for an increasing amount of beliefs about tech. Us humans want to understand things and create rationales when they're missing. 1 27 13 103 Sulka Haro @sulka · 15h We also hear about adjacent phenomena. Facebook tracks us and it's bad for privacy! Cyber criminals lurk in the internets and want to scam you! The less

4.

Text - Sulka Haro @sulka · 15h P Thus, utter conviction corona tracker apps must have privacy issues! Doesn't matter if actual experts say otherwise - how does one evaluate if someone is an expert if your evaluation criteria is mostly belief based? 27 5 85 Sulka Haro @sulka · 15h This is also increasingly evident at large scale. People with no expertise make decisions on governmental IT systems and believe things they hear from sellers. Anything is possible! And because the magic is so advanced,

5.

Text - Sulka Haro @sulka · 15h We now have magic incantations, too. “We'll conjure the spirit of Blockchain and it will solve all our problems." To people with deeper understanding of technology, many of these claims are ridiculous. But surely more advanced magic must exist, so these claims are true! 27 19 128 Sulka Haro @sulka · 15h And this is making me feel exasperated more and more frequently. Sadly, there is no fast cure. We need a deep change in the education system to pass understanding o

6.

Text - Sulka Haro @sulka · 15h If you can educate people around you on tech, please do. Start from the fundamentals. Everything we see is incrementally built and none of the components are complicated if you get deep enough. It's just hard to decompile complex systems, especially if... it's magic. 27 23 141
