'The entire project came crashing down': Coworkers get put in their place when woman stops doing their work

Of all the many frustrating experiences that are waiting for you when you arrive at work, there is arguably none greater than a coworker who refuses to pull their weight. Without fail, their dragging of the chain will hold back the rest of their team, who will have to pick up the slack if they have any hopes of keeping projects on track and hitting KPIs—keeping the ever-watchful roving eye of management looking elsewhere and the team's heads off the chopping block. Still, after weeks, months—years, even—of pulling their weight, it would be foolish not to wonder… why are you still doing this? Why are you enabling them for the sake of avoiding some hard conversations with your manager? Wouldn't it be better to stop pulling their weight and watch as things (inevitably) come crashing down? Of course, one should do so with plenty of receipts in order to thoroughly cover one's behind. That's what this worker did. After growing tired of covering for her coworkers, she put in for some time off, leaving her incompetent coworkers to do their own work for once as their project reached a crucial deadline. She then shared her experience on a popular online community, generating numerous responses from readers. Keep reading to see the responses and screenshots of the original story as it was shared on a popular Reddit community. After you're done here, see this worker who got double leave when their Karen boss didn't submit the proper paperwork.

'Just got passed up for a promotion': IT employee denied promotion by CEO because HR says he's part-time

We've all had the experience of being overlooked by an employer, but this guy had it rough. He had been working at his company for over a decade and had been clocking in over 40 hours a week, and yet somehow, he has been plagued with the status of being a part-time employee despite everyone that this label is far from accurate.   This thread was posted to Reddit by u/SilentMaster, who also helped prove once again that HR is not your friend. This particular HR lady was barely present in the office and had no sense of the kind of support OP needed in his department. He asked for someone to join the team under him to better help the workflow, but HR claimed that this wasn't doable. After HR left the company, OP went to his boss and said that instead of having someone join the team, it's probably a better idea to just have OP promoted to manager with a raise and title that accurately reflects his position at the company. His boss seemingly approved, but apparently, the CEO denied said request because he was informed by the former HR lady that OP was part-time and therefore was under-qualified for such a promotion. What an insult to someone who had been putting in 40 hours a week for over ten years.   Furthermore, a lot of folks in the comments section suggested that the CEO was using the former HR lady's "opinion" as an excuse to not promote OP. Clearly, he had the credentials and was more than willing to have a "full-time" position. We believe this hot take is a compelling one. Why even consider what a former employee who never came to the office had to say anyway? Sounds like a pathetic excuse to us!   For more stories like this, here's one about another IT worker's malicious compliance.

'My coworker should have defended me': Employee forced to pay coworker's boyfriend $20 for a ride after coworker had been carpooling with employee for free

There are so many things this coworker could have done to avoid these consequences. Apparently, she had been getting a free ride to work with this Redditor for over a year, and this didn't seem to bother OP because it was on their way to work. Still, a very generous offer that in and of itself is worthy of some real gratitude.   When the Redditor's car needed to go to the shop, the coworker was informed that they wouldn't be able to use the employee's car on Monday and Tuesday of that week. First, the Redditor said they would find their own ride, but the coworker explained that since her boyfriend was off work that week, he could drive them both to the office. This is where things started to take a turn.    The boyfriend requested $20 from OP for those two days of carpooling. Perhaps he didn't know just how much OP had done for his girlfriend, but even if he didn't, this wasn't an offer worth accepting. OP declined and when the coworker asked about using OP's car again once it was fixed, OP decided to request some money for carpooling as well. It's called reciprocity after all!   The coworker got upset about it, clearly not seeing the hypocrisy in her behavior. Still, the fact that she couldn't confront her boyfriend about the $20 or even pay that amount herself since it was the least she can do says all we need to know about the health of this relationship. Not only do we hope she has a hard time finding transportation to work, but we also hope that this coworker will start to see that her relationship with her boyfriend is insanely backward.   Keep scrolling below for the full story. 20 Workplace memes for employees who can't wait for the weekend

Since you spend so much time at work, you may as well goof off a bit. At least some of the people below feel that way. With a label maker, the possibilities are really endless! Your ability to be passive-aggressive towards that coworker you always roll your eyes at has increased significantly once you hold that label maker in your hand. Other people chose to create signs, which are also hilarious and seem to lead to passive aggression.  The signs I'm most curious about are the ones warning of caustic catastrophe, which are printed out on pieces of paper. Surely those warrant a nice proper sign, no? What's the worst that could happen? Scroll down to check out these excellent fail photos and memes to give yourself the energy to push through til your next day off. After that, just try not to laugh at these stories bosses told of employees being on their craziest behavior.

Very Excited Hongry Marmot Chomps On A Lorge Piece Of Watermelon (Video)

Okay, so, generally speaking, a lot don't get the whole ASMR movement. Some of it is fine, some of it is weird, some of it gives us good chills, and some gives us very, very bad chills. Have you seen that awwdorable video of a kitten devouring a delicious roasted chicken? How about the video of the itty bitty turtle munching on fruits and veggies? Or the one of rescued beavers delightfully eating sweet potatoes? Each and every one of these videos is worth watching.  Today's animal ASMR video is actually kind of epic. Here you have a very excited marmot chomping on a very lorge piece of delicious watermelon. It was making grabby hands at the watermelon and everything, that's how hilariously cute this video is. 'Put my order in first! I need it NOW': Top Karens of the Week (June 21 2023)

On this week's Top Karens list, we're covering a lot of ground: stage moms, posh customers, and even vegan Karens. At a certain point, one has to wonder when Karens will slow down, but the unfortunate truth of the matter is that the entitlement only seems to be getting worse in today's cultural climate.   Let's consider why that is. Most of the time, these Karen stories boil down to unruly authority waging a battle against folks who refuse to give in. This obviously says a lot about how our culture has evolved in terms of our collective reaction to people who are unnecessarily rude to employees, strangers, and others based on reductive factors like appearance, status, etc. The fact that we now live in a culture that no longer apathetically accepts this kind of behavior is certainly an improvement. However, the unfortunate part of this trend is that it seems like there have been consequences. Those consequences include Karens doubling down on their behavior rather than considering self-reflection and self-improvement.    Ultimately, this means that we can at least enjoy this infinite supply of Karen stories while we have them. For more posts like this, check out this story about another Karen who tried to get a front desk clerk fired.

Fan Memes for Sweaty People Who Are Too Poor for AC

Call me a lizard person, but I love hot and humid weather. My hair doesn't thank me, but it's kind of fun feeling like I'm sitting in the middle of a swamp. However, this is on the extremely important condition that I have somewhere cool to retreat to when it all gets to be too much. Ideally, this would come in the form of air conditioning's chilly embrace, but sometimes I can't be that fussy. There are plenty of hot places that have no choice but to go analog with the humble ceiling fan. I know what all the haters say about them only pushing the hot air around. I do not care; my sweat glands have no concept of basic physics. An overheated person will take anything they can get, including a bunch of memes about the sweet relief of fans. We're going to be needing them this summer.

Update: 'So you lied to me:' HR denies raise promised to employee employee gets back at HR by canceling furniture order for her office

This HR lady's blatant lie says just about everything one could say regarding the health of this work environment. Here, we have a two-part story for you about an employee who learned that the raise he and his coworkers were promised was never going to happen in the first place. On top of that, the woman from HR seemed completely unapologetic about the lie as well.   The update to this thread was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by u/ImThe1Wh0, who clearly was having trouble stomaching this news. After some time thinking things over, the Redditor figured out the perfect plan to get a little petty revenge and malicious compliance at the same time. Since he was told that the company was trying to cut costs in any way possible (this was perhaps the main reason why his promised raise was outright denied to him), he reconsidered an upcoming purchase for the office that had yet to be fully processed.   That purchase was a request by the very same HR lady to refurnish her office. Now, it was in fact within the employee's jurisdiction to make judgment calls on purchases, so he decided to reject the request and deem it an unnecessary purchase. The reality is he's completely in the right here. It's not like HR was incapable of doing her job without this order. Perhaps these kinds of requests should be prioritized over, say, raises that were previously promised to certain employees.    Keep scrolling below for the full story and for the update. For more, check out this post about an employee who was fired on the spot.

'I'm not a Karen I swear': Woman walks out of hair appointment after stylist roasts her 'weedwhacker' haircut

This woman is wondering if she's the reason her latest haircut went so poorly.  Recently on Twitter, people were discussing "haircut trauma," with some people mocking the idea, and more serious folks knowing exactly what that meant. Hair is a very important indicator of oneself, after all, it's one of the first things people notice about you, and one of the ways you are judged upon first impressions. So if you've ever had a hair stylist botch your hair really badly, you know that it can be a rough experience until those strands grow back. Even if your hair looks great afterward, the wrong stylist can make you want to avoid getting your hair cut ever again if they make you feel bad during the process. It seems like that was the case with this person, u/Diligenttemporary, who found a hairstylist to cut her hair. But the OP failed to mention that she has a condition that makes her hair look a bit stragly, and instead kept silent about her condition during the cut. But that led to some unfortunate miscommunication, and the OP ended up walking out.  It seems like a lot of people are anxious or too shy to tell their stylist what they actually want. Of all the times to be shy and reserved, this is not it! Even a small miscommunication can have big implications for your hair. The difference between a bob and a trim can be easily mistaken, or your hair could easily be dyed bleach blonde when all you wanted was a light brown shade. Hopefully this person learns from the commenters, who gave her tips for how to communicate about her condition for the next time she gets a trim.  Up next, these 20 people had some hilariously silly questions that they just needed to ask.

You want to work then work: Manager authorizes overtime despite company policy leading to hundreds of hours of OT; corporate come for management

Some companies' policies don't allow overtime, as paying minimum wage employees a slightly more humane salary is just not in their budget. Despite this, managers can overrule this when holidays arrive and they are in dire need of help. In this case, OP was working at a retail store; unsurprisingly, this was the type of company that paid its employees little but expected a lot. The holidays were fast approaching, and management knew that they were way behind, thus they would need many hands on deck. So management told OP and the rest of the employees that whoever wanted to work overtime, was allowed to do so. In fact, they were allowed to work as much overtime as they wanted. Assuming employees wouldn't work that much more anyway, the managers thought corporate wouldn't blink an eye. To their surprise, employees milked that opportunity to the maximum extent. Whoever said people don't want to work nowadays? In this case, such people are sorely mistaken. OP worked 42 hours of overtime that month, leading to a big fat salary that he wouldn't have gotten otherwise. As he wasn't the only one, corporate caught on and got involved, as corporations do. Scroll down to read what happened next. For more, here is an employee who refused to attend an unpaid weekend vacation with their company; their boss was less than thrilled, and called them unprofessional.

'I was gone for about 30 minutes': Dad gets put in his place for ditching dinner party to take son to McDonald's

Teaching your kids that they're not always going to have everything handed to them when (and how) they want it is an important lesson to share. It helps prepare them for the reality that things aren't always going to be exactly to their liking; different people do things differently and have different ideas about what is "good" and how things should be done, so learning to work with that as early as possible will only make their life easier and ensure that they don't grow up to be a micromanaging supervisor. Even among close friends, one may choose to raise their kids without the typical salty or sugary snacks, and the other—well, the other might decide that eating one healthy meal isn't ok for their kid and will drive off in the middle of a dinner party at the first friend's house to bring forbidden food for their kid to eat in front of their friend's kids. If you're wondering who might be wrong in the situation described above, then your company includes this dad, who rushed off to get his kid a Happy Meal when his friend had the audacity to serve his son freshly cooked salmon and something green. His wife didn't take kindly to this move; embarrassed by his actions, she elected to be angry on behalf of their friends. The dad then posted to a popular online community to see whether or not he was in the wrong for his move, getting resoundingly put in his place by the responses. Keep scrolling to see excerpts of this thread. Next, check out these in-laws who complained about an all-expenses-paid vacation to Disney.

'If she wants large tables she can have them': Server makes sure annoying coworker gets overwhelmed on the job after getting embarrassed in front of customers

Sometimes the best lessons come from giving someone exactly what they wanted. In this case, we have a scheming coworker at a restaurant who denied a server (and their patrons) a specific table because she wanted to save that for herself. As we know, larger groups mean bigger tips, but you can't control every table at a restaurant, especially when it was the customer that specifically requested said table.   Still, the coworker, whom OP refers to as Blondie, was adamant and refused to let go of the table. This is a great example of what not to do if you're trying to be a gracious coworker, but it is how you make enemies in the workplace. As some folks in the comments section pointed out, the internal politics in a restaurant can be wildly unnecessary and cutthroat, but we believe the Redditor was totally justified in her decision to give her coworker exactly what she wanted. What ended up happening was that the coworker was given every large party that came in at the same time. Sure, that means potentially good tips, but it also means a high likelihood of getting overwhelmed. That's what you get for scheming!   For more stories like this, check out this post about a server's conflict with a tea-demanding customer!

'I want to be notified about EVERY single critical issue!': IT employee complies with boss's demanding orders by overflowing his inbox

Be careful what you wish for, boss! There are some managers out there that are living through their workday with such tunnel vision that they have fully convinced themselves that they understand the daily ins and outs of what their employees are doing. However, the reality is these managers likely have zero idea about what's actually going on at the ground level. In truth, if they were given the responsibilities of the lowest person within the corporate structure, they probably wouldn't know the first thing about how to complete their tasks.    This thread was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by u/iStabs, an employee who was working directly under this kind of manager. Let's also pause and inform our readers that once again, a team of IT employees has proven that they are not to be messed with when it comes to so-called "emergencies." This group of workers has to deal with countless "emergencies" every day, and so when mistakes are made and your clueless manager demands that they be notified of all emergencies in case this kind of thing happens again, they have no idea what's in store for them.    Keep scrolling below to find out what happened next and what it was like for the employee to finally resign. For more stories like this, here's one about a business owner who had to fire their in-laws.

'You can't order me around anymore': Tenant gets even with property manager after getting elected as board member for housing organization property manager quits

Low-income apartment complexes often have housing organizations that help tenants rent homes cheaper than they would be able to in an open market. This particular housing organization owned 500 units in over 20 complexes in OP's area, and unfortunately, OP's property manager was the last person you'd wish to be responsible for anything. For some reason unbeknownst to OP, this property manager, who, for the sake of this article, we'll call Karen, had it out for OP. Karen made OP's life miserable whenever she could, and on top of it all, was also committing fraud. The apartment complex was illegally towing tenants' cars without giving them proper notice, and this was, of course, thanks to Karen. OP got together with some of the other tenants and began taking steps to begin a tenant Union. Eventually, OP got elected onto the board, which meant that technically, OP was now this property manager's boss. OP immediately took action, making sure to email all the juicy details about Karen's behavior and blatant fraud to the director. Karen found out about OP's new position during the annual meeting, and she did not take kindly to the change. Scroll down to read what happened next. For more, here is an IT manager who quit after his new boss became insufferable, and made sure that the company would shut down for a few days via the internet service provider.

'I was devastated': Driving instructor tricks teen into failing their driving test

Tests exist to gauge understanding of a subject but often have the unfortunate effect of influencing the curriculum itself to achieve the best results for that test—even if that's not the best result for the students. Test designers and administrators are (usually) only humans themselves and are not free from the bias of their own perspectives and beliefs.  Intentionally introducing a trick into the test that seeks to catch students out is probably unethical, especially when the test is one that will cause the student to fail immediately. Then not telling them that they failed, having them proceed with the rest of the test, really just seems like you're trying to embarrass the poor tester and abuse the small amount of power you have. That's what this driving instructor did to a teen taking their driving exam for the first time. When the exam began, he sneakily kept his seat belt unfastened for 15 feet or so before the teen asked them to fasten it.  I feel like this isn't a driving skill problem; it's reasonable to expect any sane adult to be responsible for fastening their own seatbelt when they get into the vehicle. Whoever does a full check to make sure their passengers are buckled in? That being said, if you refuse to put your seat belt on in my car or sneakily removed it, I'd probably just tell you to get out of the vehicle.  Commenters were incensed at the story and derided the instructor's actions, with some responders sharing stories of their own experiences taking their driving tests. Read on to see the responses from this popular thread. Next, check out this physics teacher who got schooled by their students.

'She was furious': Dude has a meltdown over spicy food and ruins his wife's birthday wonders if he's wrong

One thing's for sure in this story… This guy needs to drink a glass of milk and cool off. It's important to remember that things aren't always about you; you need to let other people in your life have their moment in the limelight, especially during times when it is literally all about them. These times include (but aren't limited to) weddings, birthdays, and funerals—any time that your job is to be there for someone else. Taking it upon yourself to claim the spotlight will only ensure that you aren't invited in the future. This husband refused to let his wife have things her way on her birthday. All she wanted to do was go to dinner at a restaurant that specialized in the style of food from the region in China where she grew up. He doesn't like "spicy" food, and she had to beg him to go with her. When the food came, it was too spicy for his liking, he began to make a scene—sending (perfectly good) food back to the kitchen, demanding less spicy dishes. After his wife told him to just eat the rice (since that's the only food his delicate palate could handle), he got up and left in a huff—solidifying his wife's humiliation. The husband turned to the internet to see whether or not he was in the wrong for ruining his wife's birthday, and since his own version of events does little to paint him in a positive light, it's hard to imagine how brutal this scene was to witness in real-time.

'The manager then tells him they cannot have 35 pizzas ready': Customer escorted from pizza place after manager tips himself $125

There are no winners in the tipping debate, but this dude decided to ask people on the internet if they thought he handled this the right way.  As u/Thatsweatyguy4 wrote in their post to r/AmItheA**hole, they and their little brother found themselves in an awkward situation with the manager of a pizza place. Basically every human being loves pizza, so it makes sense that the brother, an intern who organized a food drive, picked the universally beloved food to serve. They planned to give a pizza lunch to the floor in the office that donated the most money. As the OP writes, on a Monday, their bro called up a pizza joint to enquire about ordering a LOT of pizza — 35 pies, to be exact.  From there, though, it seems like the pizza place gave this guy the runaround. After telling him to call back on Wednesday morning to confirm the order, suddenly the manager on duty starts saying they can't do such a big order. That's not even what got the brother upset! He agreed to try again the following week. The red flags were there, but it was too late for this guy, who got roped into a crazy situation when he finally did retrieve his pizza pies.  In the comments, most people agreed that the pizza place was at fault, and some even suggested the brother contact his credit card company to tell them what happened. Scroll down to check out the story of these brothers and their pizza conquest. After that, check out these laughable questions people decided to ask, such as, "How tall are your 6-foot ladders?"

'I knew triplets named Cinnamon Rosemary and Paprika': 25 Bizarre Baby Names

One has to wonder what these parents were thinking. Was it always a practical joke? Were they trying to make life harder for their new children? Or have they just completely lost it?   Over the years, we have seen plenty of bizarre baby names in the pop culture space. We're talking Gwyneth Paltrow's Apple, Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost's Cosmo, and let's not forget Robert Rodriguez's Rocket, Rebel, Racer, Rhiannon, and Rogue (talk about alliteration!). However, as it turns out, bizarre baby names also extend beyond celebrity culture. Based on these lists of names, which were shared in this r/AskReddit thread, there are plenty of "normal people" who choose the absolutely craziest names for their children. I guess you can say celebrities really are just like us, which in turn means that we are all capable of strange and cringeworthy behavior.   Keep scrolling below for these 25 bizarre baby names. Sir this is what you wanted': Physics teacher gets schooled by students after he demands they plot graph despite not knowing the range of values upfront

When teachers attempt to exert control with no real grounds to do so, things get messy, fast. In this case, a physics teacher demanded his students plot the graph for an experiment as they went along, despite not knowing the range of values upfront. OP, who was a part of the class, realized that even though this teacher had no clue what he was doing, he and the rest of the class would have to comply. The experiment in question included demonstrating the young modulus, where you would expect a straight line, until a point whereby the material yields and strains much further than expected by Hooke's law. So the entire class began plotting the data they had, but they clearly didn't have enough space to accompany the entire experiment and were running out of paper, pretty fast. Smugly, they turned to their teacher and asked him, 'Sir, what should we do now?', to which he replied angrily that he'd go get some tape and more A4 graph paper. He doubled the graph paper by taping them together and called them a few names. The fun for the students didn't end there… scroll down to read what happened next. For more, here is a Karen customer who was served decaf for six weeks after she messed with the wrong barista… for the record, don't try this at home.

'Effective immediately': Employee gets fired on the spot after giving notice to their restaurant job

Giving notice to a job is the right thing to do—when you have the right employer. Like any relationship, the working relationship is built on trust, and a strong relationship that is filled with goodwill should always be honored. But when you know that the person employing you is prone to petty fits of rage—which often include firing people on the spot with no prior warning—maybe it's best not to let this person know that you plan on leaving their business in the next few weeks. After all, they—like so many others—might take that as a slight against them and their ego. This worker made the decision to leave the restaurant where they had worked for seven months. They share that even in that short period of employment, they had seen extreme levels of staff turnover, writing that they were the only employee who had stayed there for "so long."  The chef, who owned the business, was well-known among staff for their abusive behavior—talking down to, belittling, and even berating members of the team.  When the worker let the owner know of their decision to leave, the owner immediately replied that there was no reason for them to come in again, going as far as to email the rest of the staff to let them know that the worker was banned from the business because of "performance." Readers of the worker's account of events were incensed, and many encouraged the worker to seek unemployment for wrongful dismissal.

'Reinstall your game': Gamer gets even with trolling teammate by deleting his game files

Gaming can be a great hobby; it can be exciting, relaxing, and really get your blood moving in those tense situations that get the adrenaline pumping. Still, it lends itself to being taken a little to seriously; competitive passion can often turn into nasty toxic behavior towards the people on the other side of the screen. Some gaming communities, particularly the ones that require large investments of time to develop the skill to play the game correctly and rely heavily on team cooperation, lend themselves to the worst sorts of toxic behavior. For that reason, MOBAs like League of Legends and DOTA2 have reputations in the gaming world for the poor behavior of their player base. The particular problem arises from the fact that a loss or victory in these games often stems from the performance (or lack thereof) of a single player on the team; couple this with the fact that a single game requires an uninterrupted investment of an hour of each player's time, and you have a recipe for some massive behavioral outbursts. This isn't like a Fortnite lobby where, when you die, you go back to the menu screen and can immediately start over. No, if you die and fall behind the other team, you're going to be stuck suffering for the next hour.  It's even harder when this toxic behavior comes from someone you haven't randomly paired with in-game… But sometimes, their behavior presents the chance for some glorious malicious compliance—as it did here. Next, check out this kid who figured out a genius way to circumvent their school's firewall so that they could access flash games to play at school—a fun nostalgia trip for those who were in school around this same time.

'Ted got himself fired': Guy leaves coworker stranded in the rain ignores all his emails

When it comes to names, this man is not playing around.  Nicknames come naturally to some people, especially if you have a formal name that's common to shorten, like how many Williams go by Billy. Other people gain nicknames that match their career, hobbies, or personality instead.  The man in this story from r/AmItheA**hole actually really hates the nickname he's been given by his coworker, and he finally snapped one day. The workplace tale, told by u/notmyd***name, highlights the importance of mutual respect in a work environment.  In the comments, people debated if the OP went too far with his plan, or if he was justified. One person said it was an ESH situation, which I tend to agree with, too. If the OP had brought it up to HR or insisted to their boss that the issue needed to be resolved, then Ted might not have lost his temper. But Ted also acted really unprofessionally — he wouldn't be the first person to lose their job over writing or saying inappropriate things to a coworker.  Up next, click here to read about this waiter, who had a hilarious idea to stop a bunch of diners from dashing off without paying.

I don't work for you anymore': IT manager quits then cuts off entire company's internet service leading to company 3 day shutdown

Companies need to be careful with who they pick when searching for a job candidate to work in a managerial role, as often their choice can make or break a team. In this case, OP was an IT manager for a company that was searching for a successor to run the store in the owner's place. Soon enough, they found a 'worthy candidate', but the candidate in question turned out to be not only terrible at running the show but was also rude and entitled overall as a person.  This resulted in 15 employees quitting their jobs in the first three months that this new manager was working. The company then switched over to cost-cutting mode, so long-time vendors were replaced with friends or family of the new manager, services were downgraded or cut, and payment plans for the sales department were messed with, which further eroded the morale of the workforce. Eventually, OP had enough and decided he was going to quit. After doing so, his manager told him he was no longer a part of the company, and should no longer involve himself in work matters. A few days later, OP received a call from his local internet provider, who told him that his internet service bill had gone unpaid for the last six months, and would get cut off if he didn't pay immediately. OP remembered the last words of his manager, telling him that he was not to interfere in company matters… so OP decided to maliciously comply. This led to a variety of problems for the company. Scroll down to read the full, detailed account of events. For more stories like this, here is a Karen customer who messed with the wrong barista, leading to her receiving decaf for six weeks.

I will get you fired: Karen customer attempts to get front desk clerk fired after being denied service front desk clerk refuses to call manager

Dodging Karens while working in the hospitality industry is an unattainable dream for optimists. After working with a wide variety of guests and their entitled attitudes, the word optimist disappears from your dictionary. In this case, OP was working the front desk at a hotel, enjoying her night when an unreasonable potential guest entered the lobby. The man, who we will dub Karen, asked OP for a room that night, and was told by OP that they would need to put a refundable $100 deposit on his card for incidentals. The man was less than pleased and asked if it was really necessary, so OP replied back in a joking manner, to which he quickly took offense. The man told OP that she wasn't being professional, and demanded she fix her tone. He then gave OP his card to pay for the room, but at that point, OP realized that she didn't want to have to deal with this entitled guest, and refused him service. The man's eyes widened considerably, and he immediately demanded to speak to her manager, who would only return the following day. OP explained that he was more than welcome to file a complaint the next day, but he wanted to file a complaint now. He began yelling at OP, saying he was going to get her fired, and things went downhill from there. Scroll down to read the full, detailed account of events. 'I lied about how much I currently earn': Desperate worker lands a better job by exaggerating their current earnings

Sometimes you have to fake it 'till you make it; that may or may not include when it comes to your salary. I'm not sure you're on the right side of ethics if you do this, but as long as you can prove your aptitude and actually perform in the role, then you probably deserved that salary anyway. And it's not like some employers wouldn't do the same and lowball you if they thought they could get away with it.

'I wanted revenge': Contractor engineer charges company $9000 to press a button after they try to cheat him

Why is it that so many businesses would rather lose $10 in the name of saving $1? Time and time again, extreme cost-saving measures end up costing more in the long run. This engineer left the company they worked for shortly after completing the installation of an important mystery machine (No, not the one from Scooby-Doo.) For some reason, the manager at the client's site kept their number and contacted them personally to come and rectify an error with the machine. They agreed that the engineer would come in on the weekend to complete contract work on the machine at twice their usual rate. Everything was going according to plan until the manager came in and told them that they would no longer be able to pay them. They still needed to get the mystery machine working, didn't they? This moment of cheapness would cost them big time. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/ProRevenge subreddit by the engineer, u/AwkLemon, who shared their brilliant story of revenge.  Scroll on to see the story and top reactions below. Next, check out these workers who maliciously complied with an HR Karen's dress code changes.

'My trap had worked': Touring Karen demands to be taken into bear territory tour guide gives her a scare

This seemingly dangerous story has an unexpectedly wholesome ending. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by u/zeemdyx, the son of our story's protagonist. Back in the '80s, the Redditor's father was volunteering at a ranch in Montana and was giving various nature tours when he came across a rude Karen making one of the other tour guides cry. OP's dad asked if he could take Karen off the other guide's hands and proceeded to give her the rest of the tour.   However, he had other plans in mind. When he asked Karen if she wanted to go the official or the far more dangerous "unofficial" route, of course, she pretended to be all high and mighty and demanded to do the latter. Well, be careful what you wish for, I guess! Our hero took Karen on that unofficial route and lo and behold, they wound up having a run-in with a bear. I guess there's nothing like a grizzly to make Karen atone for her sins.    By the time they got back to the ranch, Karen demanded that OP's father be fired, but he was best buddies with the owner of the ranch, so he was all in the clear. Keep scrolling below for the unexpected romantic twist in the story. For more stories like this, here's another post about a barista's revenge on a different Karen.

Top Landlordiest Landlords Leeching Their Tenants This Week (June 16 2023)

Landlords are the worst. Those monopolizers that took over entire neighborhoods to exploit us poor folks keep taking two-week vacations instead of fixing the dang toilet seat like we asked them to a month ago. Obviously for most landlords, renters and their well-being is an afterthought. It doesn't matter if there's paint over the door hinges or mold growing in the bathroom, as long as they get that check every month. Tenants on the other hand seem quite aware of the shortcomings of their landleeches. Renters spent the last several months dumping quarters in the laundry machines only to be told they're raising the price (with no foreseeable improvements of course). No, we don't need a lecture on "market price" but if the tenants of the world wanted to speak a little common sense into their property managers, they'd be sorely out of luck.  So with that, let's commiserate and join hands in hating on the landlordiest landlords of the week. Keep scrolling to read about the few landleeches in this world who are far worse than yours. Afterwards, check out this audacious tale of boomer-energy taking over the Nextdoor app, where one neighbor tries to get unpaid laborers to fix his roof without pay.

'She said of all the... things Ive done this is the worst': Woman is infuriated to find out her brother randomly turned their family house into an Airbnb

This dude has what he believes is an excellent money-making scheme, but his mom is going to be so mad at him.  U/NicoDeeMaus had a query for the r/AmItheA**hole community. As a budding landlord, he's renting out several rooms in the house he's staying at, and living in the basement. He needs to earn some quick cash, and this is how he's decided to do so. But the OP should have known that commenters would call him TA, which they unanimously did, instead of taking his side of the argument.  This isn't even this Redditor's first fail — prior to this, he claimed to be working on a film set that his mom got him into… but he actually botched the (rather simple) job incredibly badly. That time, which you can read about here, the OP joined a commercial film shoot as a PA, only to decide it was his role to move cameras around and tell actors how to do their jobs. So, as some commenters noted, it's probable that since the OP got booted from that film shoot, he might be out of a job. His mom even helped him get that job, and he still squandered the opportunity. Now, the OP is back with a separate money-making scheme, and his mother is involved once again, though she doesn't exactly know about it.  After you scroll through the story below, read about another person who's not great with money… this manager just straight up ignored a noncompete agreement in a real "mess around and find out" kind of way.

'Shakers filled with parm cheese that molded': Chef gets revenge on terrible restaurant owner after they change the terms of their contract

It's often said that you should never break two rules at the same time, lest you run the risk of being caught for the more serious rule after calling attention to yourself through the less serious. You can probably find that phrased uttered in a similar fashion throughout the ages of this site.  When we mention this, we're usually talking about driving with a broken headlight on your way to rob a casino with your ten closest friends. You could be pulled over on the way and have the entire heist ruined… But this same principle applies to treating employees with even the barest amount of respect when you're not following the laws and regulations that surround your business. These people know the ins and outs of the laws that you're breaking, and while you shouldn't be breaking any laws in the first place, do you really want to piss off the people who know your darkest secrets? This worker decided to report this restaurant for their health code violations after being mistreated by the owner. Read on for their story; next, check out this HR Karen who tried to change the dress code and had it backfire.

'Fire me? Have fun dealing with the FSA!': Chef unfairly fired after only 12 days concocts plan that puts restaurant on the chopping block

When a restaurant owner keeps their place in atrocious conditions and assume their staff will keep their mouths shut about it, how can they possibly think it's okay to pull one over on any of their employees? That's just poor planning on their part. Why would they think for one second they won't get reported?  Well, that's exactly what went down with this particular restaurant. The chef had just been hired and was working hard to whip the place into shape. And it need a lot of work. There were healthy violations all over the place. She went to work cleaning the place up to be sparkling and getting the employees to start following the rules. She was very excited for this new job since she had the freedom to completely create the menu. It was her baby. However, after only 12 shifts in, she gets a call that she's being let go. Why? Well, the owner kept it vague, but basically blamed it on how she took her pre-approved time off and then asked if she should close early on a slow day. Basically, she had already had six days approved to take off even before she got hired, it was already agreed upon in her interview. Then, while she was working a very slow day—only $150 in sales, and the owner closed at only $300 in sales one day, so made since—she texted the owner asking if she should close up early and he said no, so she kept it open.  However, only a few days later she saw her position up on Indeed but with the pay sliced in half. So, no, she was not fired because she was doing anything wrong like they made it seem. She was fired because the owner couldn't afford to pay her their agreed amount. If the owner would've just been a decent person and asked her if she would stay with a pay cut, she says she would have done it because she loved her freedom. But nope, he couldn't take responsibility and fired her out of the blue. Well, cue her reporting all of those grotesque health code violations. Scroll on to read the entire story!

Update: 'How I dealt with a one-sided friendship': Woman plans birthday revenge so her friend will reply to her text messages

Sometimes it only takes one little thing to break apart a friendship. It could be something as simple as a text message — or the lack thereof, in this person's case.  One thing you realize the older you get is that it isn't what people say that matters so much as what they do. That whole "actions speak louder than words" sentiment is totally accurate. There are only 24 hours in a day, and if someone makes you a priority, they're taking time from their day to include you in their life. People certainly get super busy and can't answer texts. And who among us hasn't gotten that kind of depression that makes you take 5 days to reply to a message? In adult life, sometimes you really are just so busy that your inbox is overflowing, you have 7 missed calls, and 41 unread messages. It can be a lot to juggle.   But this person shared her annoyance over a chronic texting issue with the woman she believed was her best friend. As she shared to r/pettyrevenge, she realized that she and her best friend were having a rather one-sided friendship. She would message her BFF, and then not hear from her for months.  In a moment of goodwill, the OP, u/peachbunx, decided to get her friend this birthday gift she really wanted. It was a blender, a really nice model that cost $150. Kitchen supplies aren't cheap, and the OP went out of her way in buying such a pricey present. The OP then had a realization about the way her bestie was treating her… and things went south from there.  Check out the story, plus an update, by scrolling below. Next up, these class clowns will keep you giggling with their wild pranks.

'I scotch taped all of my classmates together': 25 Class clowns who took school shenanigans too far

There's nothing like the perfect senior prank, but the lengths some teens will go to achieve it is striking.  For some teens, being known as the person who pulled the perfect senior prank is really important. At many high schools, the prank is organized by dozens of people. And as the folks below told with their own stories, the results can be legendary and hilarious. Just don't get caught! A common punishment is not being able to walk in graduation, and no grad wants to miss that. It seems that a surprising amount of the people below actually didn't get caught, and are only confessing to the deed years later.  From leading cows up flights of stairs they can't come down from, to pouring mass amounts of soap into a school pool, these people were rowdy teens. Not all are senior pranks, either — the prompt from u/Zer0Insentiv3 asked for people to name their funniest moments of chaos at school, so some folks told stories from their elementary school days.  Next, this birthday host is not happy with a guest not showing up… so he's charging the dude with an expensive request.

'He never came back to our branch again': Bank manager calls Kevin out on expenses after being accused of stealing money

It's as if Kevin was begging to be called out! This dude kept on claiming that his local bank was trying to steal money from him after numerous instances in which he canceled his card and ordered a new one because he didn't recognize certain charges.    When the Redditor, who was the manager of the bank at the time, decided to look into the matter, they discovered some unsavory information. The enraged Kevin showed up the next day with his wife, demanding answers from the bank manager, and the manager did, in fact, warn him that perhaps it would be best if the two of them spoke in private. Kevin did not catch on, and so the bank manager went on to list out certain websites he has made payments to that his wife definitely did not know about. Yikes!   Keep scrolling below for the full story. For more, here's a post about a crazy Aunt Karen who drove across the country.

I left a huge secret that day': Bridal attendant catches step-sister stealing bride's dress tells bride 21 years later with even more tea to spill

You would think a bride on their wedding day would just be getting dolled up and beaming with happiness since she's about to be united with the love of her life forever. However, anyone who has ever been a bride or has worked with a bride on her wedding day knows that she is anything but that. She is usually a ball of nerves, stress, and fear. Also excitement and happiness! but having a wedding is no easy task. So, many brides will hire a person that is called a "bridal attendant." This is a person hired to take care of the bride, help her get ready, and make sure all of the bridal party and VIP guest are set. So what happens when drama hits the fan? Well, the bride is already a ball of nerves, so it would be best for someone else to deal with it, right? Cue the bridal attendant.  One wedding professional used to work as a bridal attendant several years ago. She shares on story in particular fro over 20 years ago from when she was working as a bridal attendant. She said this was a secret she has kept since that day, but as fate would have it, she runs into that bride and she gets put on the spot. Turns out the bride found out about the secret many years after it went down at her wedding, and honestly, she was so thankful that she wasn't told of it at the time.  You see, for some insane and unknown reason, the step-sister thought it would be a good idea to steal the wedding dress on the day of the wedding to go out into the snowy weather and adventure down the block to get some coffee and donuts, even though they had a fully stoked snack table. The bridal attendant caught her as she returned and nearly fainted from shock. She could not believe that the step-sister would do such a thoughtless thing. She yelled at her to remove the dress immediately and right in the knick of time too, because the bride walked in right as she was rehanging the dress. She asked what was going on, and she played it cool, saying her step-sister was in the bathroom and she was just steaming the dress to get it ready. The bride bought it and carried on, but you better believe the bridal attendant tore the step-sister a new one. They said they would never mention the incident again.  21 year later, however, it turns out the truth was revealed and the bride was extremely grateful for being kept in the dark. Just goes to show you, your bridal attendant usually knows best. Hear the whole story for yourself below!

'I have no clue [why I was fired.]': Experienced barista gets inexplicably fired after first day at new job

Starting a new job is always tough. Sure, you might have tons of knowledge and industry experience, but there's always a different way of doing the same old thing at every new organization you walk into. You might think that a square peg would always just fit into the square hole, but your new job may require you to revolve the square 360 degrees clockwise, counterclockwise, and then on a vertical axis—all before putting it in the same square hole you always did before.  Sure, it may be stupid, pointless, and a waste of time, but you'd better wait until you've gained their trust before you tell them that; otherwise, you might be going through the same paces at yet, another new job. Still, even if you do everything right, you might find yourself sent inexplicably down the road—just as this barista was after their first day. Their situation is tough, most managers would appreciate someone who is willing to ask questions instead of getting things wrong, but there are always those ol' boys out there who admire a worker's gumption and intuitive instinct and expect workers to figure it out themselves without a word being spoken. The barista shared their experience on a popular Reddit subreddit for workplace discussion. An update they shared makes it look like one of their new coworkers might have made up lies about them to get them fired. Brutal. Read on to see their account of events. Next, check out this worker who was fired for missing work after being injured trying to stop a shoplifter.

'She told me that I am being a jerk': Wife last-minute cancels catering service for 20 people insists husband helps

If you change a plan, especially at the last minute, you need to take responsibility for the increased workload that you've made for everyone. This principle holds true even when you suddenly decide to cancel a catering service because you'd rather cook for 20 people yourself. If you have the ability and time and would like to take on that task, more power to you, but don't expect others to give up their time and energy to help out when they were quite happy with the original option in the first place.  This is the scenario that this husband posted about on Reddit's r/AITA subreddit when his wife, along with his brother's wife, decided to cancel the catering service that he had arranged for his mother's retirement party. The wives thought they would take it upon themselves, but the husband's wife grew angry when he refused to help her with the undertaking, calling him sexist for leaving the women to cook. Reddit has sided with the husband on this one. What's your take? After you've passed judgment here, check out this husband who wouldn't stick up for his wife when his friend was feeding their cat toxic food.

'We got here first so we got dibs': Woman kicks entitled friend out of Airbnb for demanding nice bedroom

This friend really believes in calling dibs, also known as the rule of the land in most situations. If you run to the car faster than anyone else, you get dibs on where you sit, or if you call dibs first on movie night, you get to pick the film. But this friend is calling dibs on something else entirely — the room she's choosing to sleep in during a vacation with her friends.  U/yayabanana17 wrote to r/AmItheA**hole to settle an argument. As she explained, the group was planning to travel with eight people, comprised of three couples and two single people. The OP was in charge of renting the Airbnb, so she chose one with four bedrooms, then asked the group if that was okay, and everyone agreed. But once the friends got to the Airbnb, one of them had called dibs on a room she wasn't intended to have.  The OP responded in the comments section to numerous requests for information. Commenters were torn between saying the OP should get to have any room she wants, and saying that the friend was still paying for other parts of the trip, and had equal rights to the room she wanted. Just because the friend is single, doesn't make her any less entitled to the king bed — or at least that's what some commenters believe.  Decide for yourself with the story below. Then, send some of these sassy work memes to your office besties.

'Its a lot of money for them to pay': Employee volunteers for expensive training course only to leave the company a few months later

This, folks, is how to get back at your boss! Not only did this Redditor manage to find a way to get three paid days off work, but they're also learning a valuable skill they can take with them elsewhere when they leave the company. Essentially, this office finally need to comply with rules and had to pay for an expensive first aid training course for a couple of employees.    OP volunteered knowing they were going to be leaving the company shortly afterward, but their bosses have no knowledge of their future at the company just yet. This perfect sabotage means that they will have to pay yet again for another employee's first aid training right after the Redditor departs. As OP mentioned, it may be a small win, but it's a "win-win" for them. Now, they'll have a skill they can put on their resume, they get to forgo their duties for a few days, and they get to enact a little petty revenge along the way.   For more stories like this, here are some of the top petty revenge tales!

Top 24 Starter Pack Memes of the Week

The concept of starter packs started way back when the internet was way cooler than it is now. It essentially refers to a compilation of various items that encapsulate the essence of a specific activity, and the objective of creating said starter pack is to playfully satirize and mock said activities via related items. If you'd say it sounds like a bundle of stereotypes, technically, you'd be correct. It is the stereotype manual for those who are just entering a particular domain, while simultaneously offering an amusing way to depict or poke fun at it. It's worth noting that Redditors, denizens of the popular online community, ahem, Reddit, who we may have some light beef with at the moment, particularly revel in the enjoyment of a well-crafted starter pack, thus giving rise to the plethora of social memes you will encounter below. While starter packs inherently possess a humorous and light-hearted nature, we'll have you know that they also serve a somewhat practical purpose, proving valuable to people who are novices in a specific area of interest or hobby, seeking guidance on how to embark upon their new endeavor. Okay, that last part is a little bit exaggerated, but you get the gist of it. Scroll down for the best starter packs of the week. For more, here is an employee who attempted to get their coworker fired, but failed miserably at their plan.
