'I got my books back': Book-thief friend gets fired, demands compensation

Some might say that it's insane to demand your friend pay you reparations for getting you fired from your job after you stole from them… and that's because they're right. It is insane to think that anyone owes you anything resulting from the consequences of your own actions.

This woman posted on Reddit's r/AmItheA**hole subreddit, wondering whether or not she was in the wrong for getting her friend fired, who she suspected was stealing from her. This friend had come over to a gathering at her house, and afterward, she had noticed that some valuable books were missing. It turned out this friend had taken them, claiming that he intended to get them appraised for her as a "gift." Not buying it, she filed a police report and submitted it to his work, who fired him. Her friend then demanded compensation for the loss of his job.

'I gave my ex-fiancé back the ring': Welder destroys engagement ring after discovering her fiancé was cheating

Never cheat on a welder!  That's what this woman's ex-fiancé learned after she discovered that he had been cheating on her with one of his exes. In fact, that ex ended up becoming friends and roommates with the Redditor, but that's a different tangent. Shared bonding, I guess. Anyway, this woman shared on Reddit's r/pettyrevenge subreddit that after calling off her engagement, her ex-fiancé would not stop whining about wanting his $190 Amazon-purchased engagement ring back.

After his incessant nagging, she finally decided to return her engagement ring, but with a bit of a surprise. She welded a cube, dropped the engagement ring inside it, and sealed it shut. Now, her ex-fiancé has the ring but he's unable to get it out. Apparently, he has been fretting about this fact still to this day, ten years later. Keep scrolling below for the full play-by-play. 'That's ripping people off BIG time': Choosing beggar cat lady argues with sublessor about renting out a room with her three cats

Three cats and one crazy cat lady is a big ask. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/ChoosingBeggars subreddit by u/spelonberry, who was renting out a room and had to deal with this extended back-and-forth. As some folks pointed out in the comments section below, this exchange went on for far too long. I would have said "Absolutely not" and then I would have been done with it. Kudos to the Redditor for having the patience to deal with this lady.

Now, onto the cat lady issue. There's something to be said for the fact that if you cannot afford to properly take care of a pet, or in this case THREE pets, then you probably are not well-equipped to handle being a pet owner at all. Despite how this cat lady wants to put it, the reality is what OP asking for is not out-of-life whatsoever, especially considering the fact that cats were simply not supposed to be part of the equation here.

‘I’m getting fired': Employee finds out boss intends to fire them after stumbling across job listing, boss offers new hire $5 rate increase despite initially refusing to give employee raise

Not only is approaching your boss and asking for a raise legitimate, but it is also inevitable, especially when you find yourself doing many more tasks than your original job description entailed. Unfortunately for OP, they were denied a $1 raise from their boss, even though they were working two job descriptions instead of one. OP had no choice but to look for another job in addition to the one they were already doing.

Lo and behold, OP's company was more than willing to pay that extra dollar, plus four more… just not to OP. Apparently, the company had posted a job listing for OP's position, where they offered five dollars more than OP was making. In other words, OP earned $15 an hour, but the job listing said the company was willing to pay $20. After being denied a one-dollar raise, OP was livid.

Not only is it unacceptable on OP's boss's part to fail to notify OP they were getting fired, but it was even more infuriating because of the amount they were willing to pay somebody else for OP's job after OP asked for a one dollar raise.

'This will cost you big time': Employer tells worker they can't leave until relief arrives, they comply and rake in the overtime

Working overtime is basically your employer admitting they haven't hired enough people. Thankfully laws that require increased compensation for overtime end up forcing a win-win; Employers get extra coverage in peak times, and employees get better compensation for working longer, often unscheduled hours. That is, if you're not a salaried worker and don't live somewhere where these laws don't exist.

This worker, luckily, was in an industry that mandated strict overtime for any hours worked over 76 hours fortnightly. They also worked in caretaking for the elderly, which made it impossible to leave work without relief coverage. So, when their high-turnover workplace was struggling with staffing levels, it was time to rake in the cash.

'Penelope hasn’t answered my calls': Daughter refuses to speak to mother after theater faux pas spoils the show

This mom is taking family participation a bit too far. This woman wrote to r/AmItheA**hole to share her story and ask for people's opinions, but she's definitely not going to like the answers she's receiving in the comments.

As the OP, u/Thick-Studio-4277, shared in her post, her daughter Penelope is 12 years old, and she has a spring show that she was performing in. The OP didn't really take this show seriously, which is a big mistake on her part! Preteens take things like that very seriously. After all, lots of students spend hours rehearsing and stay after school for daily rehearsal sessions for months in the lead-up to the event.

This parent decided to attend her daughter's show with a newborn in tow. Why did she thought this was a good idea? She tried to justify the decision, but it might take some time for Penelope to forgive her.

Next, this woman has an update on the situation with the boss who tried to steal her first-class flight from her.

‘My boss said I over tipped servers, so I tripled the cost of my work trips’: Employee costs company thousands of dollars after boss's reprisal over corporate tipping policy

Traveling to customer sites to analyze defective products means traversing under a corporate travel policy. In this case, OP was given a certain allowance according to his company's corporate travel policy, which he followed vigorously. OP actually skimped out on expenses as much as possible to make sure he wasn't costing the company too much money, so he didn't even max out his allowance. That is until his boss called him into his office for a proper scolding after he had allegedly 'overtipped' servers when eating at a restaurant. The amount in question was $20, including the meal itself. OP remembered the meal quite well, as OP had been super

OP was already having a pretty tough time at his job, and this was the last straw. The servers had been genuinely helpful on one of the worst days of his working life, and they deserved the big tip they had gotten. So OP hatched a plan, deciding to maliciously comply with the corporate travel policy, down to every last cent. What ensued was a series of expenses the company hadn't foreseen, as OP tripled the amount he spent on said trips.

'[They] had to fork over $23': Neighbor demands more earnings from neighborhood children's bake sale despite paying for none of the materials, gets less

It's all well and good to want things to be fair. After all, things being unfair—well… isn't fair. But, if you demand fairness, you'd better be well and truly sure that you actually deserve more than you're already getting. Otherwise, you might very well end up with less.

Conflict emerged when this neighbor's kid demanded that he receive "half the money" from a bake sale when he decided he was bored and wanted to go home early. He wasn't even willing to stay the full duration and put in the work in order to earn his part of the cash. The other kid responded that this wasn't fair and that they should split the money earned for the duration that the neighbor's kid had worked.

This prompted the neighbor to march over to this family's house, complaining that it wasn't fair for their kid to profit off of things that she had purchased for the sale. The neighbor was waving a receipt around of the things she had supposedly purchased for the bake sale, half of which hadn't even been used.

'Hope I still have a job tomorrow': Employee swears at boss on remote call after thinking he was on mute

Everyone has had that moment of panic on Zoom when you thought you were on mute but you weren't. Now, there are a variety of scenarios that you might be familiar with when this kind of thing happens: perhaps you burped, perhaps you yawned, or perhaps you whispered something to your partner offscreen. However, if you were this Redditor, you would be wishing and hoping that one of those scenarios happened instead of what actually transpired.

What actually transpired was that this employee thought he was on mute but had the wrong output connected to his Zoom speakers when he cussed out his boss in an impulsive moment of commiseration. If you keep scrolling below to read the full play-by-play, you'll see that it's a pretty difficult situation to get out of. He's pretty much doomed no matter how he tries to spin or justify it. Check out what other people had to say in the comments. For more stories like this, here's a post about an employee whose salary was suddenly halved.
