'The games WORKED': Kid circumvents school firewall to play flash games by learning to develop websites

The best lessons in life often can't be planned for and sometimes are born from the mistakes of authority figures and the limitations they place on you. These limitations can create situations that require creative solutions to overcome them, sparking inspiration that can lead to new pathways and ideas.

This guy shared the story of his days at school, being trapped there without any access to the delightful flash games of the early 00s thanks to the school's overbearing firewall. As idle minds do, he began developing a workaround to circumvent the firewall. With the help of his older brother, the pair figured out a way to download the game files so that they could be hosted on another site, creating site after site of his own in order to continuously evade the firewall with the motivation of continued access to the game as teachers discovered the sites.

With the motivation of the reward of accessible games, the guy developed the skills that would later go on to fuel his career as a software engineer, making it one of the most important skills he learned from school.

'We watched as he took down his fence': Residents' malicious compliance cost their neighbor $10k and a big chunk of his yard

After moving into a new neighborhood, these residents planted lots of plants, only to find them chopped down almost immediately. No wonder the parents of the OP, u/BalloonUnderstudy, were completely furious!

It takes a special kind of jerk to chop down living plants just to be petty. But for some people, like the neighbors in the OP's story, claiming the rights to their own property supersedes everything else. After all, that's a horrible way to welcome new people to the neighborhood. It also signals right away that those people aren't interesting in being friendly or even communicating. At least the OP and their parents got the last laugh!

Scroll down to read their story, plus people in the comments who were delighted with this tale of malicious compliance. Some shared their own neighborly MC stories, too.

Next up, check out these tweets that are utterly iconic and part of internet lore.

'You probably learned how to use chopsticks by eating his wife’s leftovers': Entitled cousin gets put in her place while out for sushi

Encountering entitled strangers is already a frustrating situation, but when it's your own family member being the mean entitled one then it's a whole other ballgame. You'd think your family is supposed to support you and encourage you to learn new things and better yourself. But sometimes family members can be jealous, egotistical, mean, and entitled. Sorry you're just trying to live your life and you crossed their path! It's easier to put a stranger in their place, but your own flesh and blo0d is much more complicated. But sometimes it just has to be done.

Recently, a woman on Reddit posted how they put their entitled rude cousin in place while out for sushi with their family. The cousin was never particularly nice to her. She also has made some questionable life choices resulting in her having three kids, one with a married man. So when this mean cousin started getting really really mean about how the Redditor couldn't use chopsticks, even though this was her first time using them, the Redditor decided to use the easiest ammo. She called her out for having misbehaved children and getting pregnant by a married man, who was most likely out with his wife right then and there.

The family got mad at the Redditor for being so mean and everyone started yelling and they got kicked out of the restaurant, but the Redditor felt satisfied. She had taken enough from this mean family member and had to finally put her in her place. Read the entire family drama below!

'You will not be eligible to be rehired': Employer attempts to decrease turnover by increasing resignation requirements under thread

At the end of the day, you can't just make it harder for people to quit to prevent them from doing so. You'd be better off putting the time and energy into fixing company culture and decreasing turnover. Yet, where there's a bad idea to be had, there's a manager somewhere looking to champion it with zealous vigor, abandoning it only after things go totally sideways and pretending that nothing ever happened.

It's no secret that the medical sector is currently struggling for staff, with low staffing levels leading to intense hours and a higher burnout rate for those who remain—leading to even higher turnover. It's not surprising that companies might be frantically trying to devise strategies to retain staff while they try to increase overall levels… but maybe instating ridiculous notice periods under threat of ostracization from the industry isn't the way to go about it. How about improving compensation and working conditions for those workers instead?

Hey—at least it's not another pizza party!!

This poster shared that their friend works as a medical scribe and recently received this correspondence from their company advising them of changes to the company's notice periods. The policy extends notice to 30 or 45 days and advises that failure to follow the policy will result in a host of repercussions designed to hurt workers' chances of finding another job within the industry.

Read on for screenshots of the correspondence and readers' reactions and advice. Next, check out this plumber who quit without notice for a massive raise.
