The Best New Memes, Tweets, and Hot Takes About Toxic Workplaces

Some will make you laugh, others will make you think, and all will make you question why we work like this. Or perhaps why we work. Period. Full stop. These memes, tweets, and hot takes were compiled from Reddit's r/antiwork and r/me_irl subreddits.

It's good to question why things are the way they are, even if it's just for humor or a punchline. Without those observations, we'll never be able to, I don't know, effectively change our collective approach to that thing called work. Some of these, such as the tweet about being a tech bro vs. being a medical assistant, are infuriating. Others, like the Halloween costume memes satirizing horrible bosses and even more horrible hiring managers, will never get old to me. Keep scrolling below and share your thoughts! Entitled Mom vs. 'Unreasonable' Teacher: Mom wants son to miss test for a pep rally, teacher refuses

We love when a teacher puts their foot down, but at what cost? This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/Swimming_Sugar3361, who shared her story about the trials and tribulations of getting her son to miss class to participate in the high school pep rally. Her older son, who helped organize the rally, injured himself and could no longer dance. Mommy seemed to think it was a great idea to have her younger son participate, clearly against the older son's wishes. She got everyone else involved in the pep rally excited about it. This woman is a Stage Momster in the making.

Her big obstacle, however, was the teacher who had assigned a test for the 6th grader the same afternoon as the rally. We appreciate teaching your students to follow up on certain commitments, and we believe this Mom needed to be humbled slightly. However, I'm not sure this was a battle worth choosing. The kid's going to miss the test no matter what and it's only 6th grade. You get the sense that both adults in this situation were on power trips. Keep scrolling below for the full story! 'Update: We argued. I quit': Boss insists worker leave dying girlfriend and return to work, worker quits

This worker found themself faced with pushback from their boss when they decided to take a leave of absence to spend time with their girlfriend, who is in hospice care with not much time left. After "a few weeks" off, their boss began repeatedly attempting to get them to come back, texting them 13 times in the course of a week, insisting that there was "no way" someone could be in hospice for that long.

They go on to express in their original post (items #1-9) the pressure they felt, how their life was falling apart, and how they felt they had no avenues for recourse; They work at a small family-operated business that has no HR department for them to turn to, leaving them at the whims of the owners.

They returned to share how things had progressed in an update post (items #10-19). Their boss continued to contact them, and the situation escalated, prompting the employee to quit immediately.
