Tumblr User Calls BS On Sinister Subtext of "Spirited Away"

Whether or not you agree, it's true that people tend to read way too far into their favorite stories. And while some elements of darkness might be present in a kid's story, they might be just that, elements, and not the fully realized plottings of the artist who also poured their heart and soul into the other 95% of the story that you're not focusing on to fit your narrative. That said, there is fun to be had in fan theories, like how Darth Vader is way too extra or how Violet Beauregard should have inherited Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.

Text - eren-jaegars-butt oh vivvav OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE! NO IT WASN'T, YOU JACKASSES! "Totoro's about dead girls!" "Spirited Away is about sex!" You know what I hear? Spirited Away was made for some friends of Miyazaki's. Specifically, the ten-year-old daughters of some friends he invited to stay at his vacation home. That thing where Yubaba takes away peoples' names and changes their species? That's her taking away their individuality. Chihiro's parents are now pigs, not people. Haku's name has been shortened so he forgets who he is. When Yubaba changes Chihiro's name, the only Kanji she leaves spell out "Sen", the Ja

Text - her own person. You want to seem cool and intelligent? Talk about the movie's actual themes. Don't make up this shock-value bullshit for attention. You stupid motherfuckers. Source: inuchi 366,607 notes
