Woman Sneaks Out of Restaurant When Fiancé Tells Her to Pay For Him and His Friends

This couple maintains separate finances, as the woman explains, largely owing to the fiancé's preference. When the tables turned, and suddenly she was earning more than her fiancé, he was very interested in getting her to pay more than her share to help him out. That's all well and good, as long as he had been doing the same for her previously, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Her fiancé has insisted that she pay for things for both himself and his friends.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AITA (Am I the A-Hole) subreddit by Reddit user u/Throwaway795571, who shared her story to the popular subreddit with the title "AITA for sneaking out of the restaurant after my fiancé told me to pay for his and his friend's meal?"

The situation came to a head when the two went out to dinner together with some friends of his. She made it clear from the outset that she wasn't paying for this get-together. During the meal, her fiancé suddenly leaned in real close and let her know that she'd be paying for everything.

In a moment inspired by romantic comedy and sitcom tropes (although a lot less humorous given the situation), she excused herself to go to the bathroom, quietly slipped out the door, and left.

Now she's wondering if she is in the wrong for her actions and the way that she played her part in all of this. When she appealed to readers for their advice, they overwhelmingly insisted that she was in no way in the wrong and would be better off if she did away with her terrible fiancé for good. Commenters pointed out how controlling and demanding her fiancé seemed to be.

"Why are you marrying someone who insists that his money is his money, but your money is also his money? NTA." commented user madelinegumbo.

"Yes. I don't say a word about how and where he spends his salary." responded the original poster. "He does intend on dictating how I spend my money sometimes. But now, with the raise thing, he's admittedly gotten more aggressive. I keep trying to get to the root of the issue but to no avail."

"The root of the issue is that he's selfish and controlling and doesn't respect you." user madelinegumbo then replied.

What do you think? What's your take?
