Everyone grieves differently. But when you find yourself forcing your wife (who is expecting a girl) to attend a boy-themed baby shower to honor the name of grandpa, maybe it's time to look in the mirror and ask yourself if you've made the right choices. Because this whole situation looks a lot like this family is desperately and ineffectually trying to reincarnate their grandpa.
It would be one messed-up thing if the family was upset that the baby is expected to be a girl. That on its own would be enough to have some hard feelings. But they went to extra step to ignore reality and "hold onto hope" that this kid is gonna be Grandpa Part II. The internet saw this and astutely pointed out that maybe there is still time to not have to be part of this family dynamic.
