Food Service Worker Fired For Refusing to Come in to Work While Sick, Had Doctor's Note

This fast-food worker sent their sick note to their boss to let them know that they would not be at work that day. To their surprise their boss texted them back, telling them that they needed to find someone to cover their shift or still work it themselves.

The text exchange was posted to Reddit by the employee, Redditor u/spr_t, to the r/antiwork and r/OSHA subreddits, which both handle topics where workers are having issues with their employers. The employee posted the topic with the title, "I lost my job of 3 years because of this."

They gave some context and updates in the various comment sections. They explain that they worked for a franchise owner of a restaurant located in Texas where they had worked for three years. After this text exchange, they were fired and the employer said that they were "Counting it as quitting since [they] didn't show up." Commenters responded to these statements that, since they are located in Texas, their rights and avenues for restitution are extremely limited.

Commenters, of course, have condemned the deplorable actions of the employer. Especially when you work in food service and are handling other people's food… The last thing you should be doing is coming to work sick and spreading it to others. Haven't the last two years taught us anything?
