This daughter is incredibly lucky that she has an adult in this situation who is willing to go to bat for her. Even better that it's her own mother. There's nothing worse as a teen than when the adults are running their own narrative and completely ignoring your own needs. Any argument you make gets dismissed as teenage angst and you're just told you'll understand when you're older.
This is similar to the girl who told her stepmother that her step-siblings weren't her problem.
