Grief over the loss of a loved one can cause us to do some pretty crazy things and act in ways we normally wouldn't. But, as multiple commenters have pointed out here, it is very concerning that the husband thinks he has some kind of authority over his wife. A partnership is just that. You are equals, no exceptions. If that's not the case it's probably the time to get the heck out of there.
Sounds like a hard situation all around.
