At the end of the day, we are only human and, as such, are direct products of the environments in which we were raised. Whether or not you have common sense, if you've never had to pay for, say —a sandwich — in your entire life; then you're not going to have any life experiences, or even a frame of reference, for what a sandwich costs when you finally do need to pay for one. This seems absurd to the rest of us, but it's just the reality of the situation. I, for one, would have absolutely no idea where to donate my cedar clothes hangers once they lost their scent —not that I'd ever notice in the first place.
This question was born from that famous quote from Arrested Development's fabulously out-of-touch Lucille Bluth. "I mean, it's one banana Michael, what could it cost? Ten dollars?"
