MIL Suspects Self-Professed Pregnant 'Gaming Addict' of Cheating, Actually Gaming

This pregnant woman found herself in her mother-in-law's crosshairs and was accused of cheating when she was caught in a lie. The thing is, she was lying to avoid having to tell her mother-in-law that she was playing video games.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AITA (Am I the A-Hole) subreddit by Reddit user u/True_Tap_5721. She posted the thread to the poplar sub to see if she was in the wrong for sinking herself into a bed of lies, which led her mother-in-law to accuse her of infidelity.

The mother-in-law, at first glance, seems to come across as incredibly archaic and judgemental. The more you read the post, the more you see glimpses of what could be read as an addict lashing out at loved ones trying to set them straight. If you had a healthy relationship with your hobby, you wouldn't go to such extreme lengths to lie and hide your behavior.

The fact remains that these expecting parents refer to themselves as "gaming addicts" and describe a lifestyle in which all their free time is devoted to games. As an avid lifetime gamer, it's concerning how reliant they seem on their connection to their hobby. Their lives are about to change drastically, and they appear to have given it very little consideration. Their new lives are quickly approaching, and they have only made an effort to reduce their gaming reluctantly so that the concerned parents don't see them playing.

There are so many parts of this post that signal a true addiction. Although agreeing with anyone who thinks that video games are "childish" kills me, I can't help but feel the in-laws might have a point here. Gaming looks to be a serious problem for this couple, who are about to have an entirely new person to care for.

What are your thoughts on this one?
