This troublesome new temp tried to tell her recruiter that he wasn't British enough to claim that Nationality. She further told others that he was lying "for clout". She knew better because she was dating a British fellow and "knew how they act."
That's when u/ArtfulMortician knew that he had to ascend to his final form and personify every British stereotype under the sun.
People will gatekeep anything and everything. Good luck trying to pickup a new hobby or join a new community these days.
Where there is a thing to be done or a fandom to follow as soon as you sign up you are going to be confronted by the Uber Fan. This Uber Fan has done everything possible to make this fandom or hobby their entire identity and they are determined to keep everyone else out in order to secure the self-perceived fragility of their existence. You being there and new is a threat to them. Where they should be offering support and nurturing their community they, instead, are going to stonewall, gatekeep, and otherwise use their influence to sustain their dominance.
Doing this on something like someone's own nationality is somehow even more insane. Imagine telling someone that they don't deserve to consider themselves to be a part of their own nationality?
