Jasmine rice, basmati rice, even run-of-the-mill medium grain all have different textures, flavors, water needs and cooking times. Ignorance of rice diversity doesn't substitute for cooking knowledge, and the fact that she refused to listen to her boyfriend in the first place is enough to make the blood boil hard enough to ruin some rice.
