Call it whatever you want. Empathy, pattern seeking behavior, or just looking for faces in random stuff. It's really easy for us to see inanimate objects and imagine that they have personality. Maybe it's because a face is as simple as two eyes and a mouth? If so, then why can we tell exactly how scared that couch is? Inanimate objects just look like other stuff sometimes.
