We've all fallen for this or pulled it off at least some time in our lives. When it comes to adjusting sound settings, putting up picture frames or putting salt in food, there's just something our dumb brains do that make us think something has actually changed when it totally hasn't. It's just never put as concisely as this. What can ya do.
