There are some landlords out there who are looking for any reason at all to keep that security deposit. That's when the situation calls for a very strict reading of the rules, and a ridiculous overadherence to those rules. It's like they got a notice in every font but wingdings. For one that went even further, here's one where the landlord tried to keep the deposit and lost in court.
