This guy found himself in the middle of an emotional rollercoaster of a date. It sounds like the date was emotionally reactive beyond comprehension, and generally resigned to being discontent with whatever the current situation was. The dude clearly had the moment he recognized that things had gone south, and decided to open up to the concierge, who was around and ready to listen.
