If you've never had a bad roommate, consider yourself lucky. There's no feeling quite like not being able to be comfortable in your own home. Living in an apartment full of garbage that's not yours can be maddening, not just because you feel disrespected, but also because it's extra work to do things like take trash out, do dishes that aren't yours and even do basic crap like lock the door for someone else.
