Just imagine stealing your child's future that was set aside for them in order to give your kitchen a facelift. What kind of selfish and evil person does a thing like that? 

True, most people don't have financial assistance from their parents and manage (although at great personal cost) but those who do have that kind of support should be eternally thankful. They often don't realize how much of a "free pass" it is to have that assistance and not be saddled with ridiculous student loans for the foreseeable future as a graduation present from society. Debt of that magnitude can determine the course of the rest of your life, it becomes imperative to line up a job immediately after graduation and that kind of pressure can cause you to miss some life-changing opportunities that might have otherwise come your way. 

From where I stand the case is closed here, this mother is the worst. What's your take?

When someone screws up super hard, it's easy enough to just call them a dumb asshole. But many of us hear that so often, the words fall like water off a goose's nasty dumper. So what we need are insults that really cut someone down without upsetting anyone else at Thanksgiving. Or at least insults that are clever enough to afford us plausible deniability were someone to actually get mad after we call them some version of a gaping wound in the collective progress of mankind.

We could also learn to be less critical, but we're only gonna do that when people stop screwing up so hard. So before Jeff in accounting learns to suck less, we're gonna have to take it out in a semi-acceptable, yet still completely disrespectful way.

This guy saved up for a year for a $4k engagement ring for his girlfriend, hoping to take the next step with her. He could not have possibly anticipated what would happen to that ring when he accepted his brother's family into his home after his brother lost his job. 

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AITA (Am I the A--Hole) subreddit by the owner of the ring. He posted the subject to appeal to readers and gauge whether or not he was in the wrong for kicking his brother's family out after his nephew stole the ring. The initial thread was titled "AITA for kicking my brother and his family out after his son stole my engagement ring?"

He has now returned with an update to the initial story to provide commenters some closure as to what happened to the ring and to explain how everything has played out since that time.

Guy Exacts Revenge on Scammer By Exposing Him

Almost dying to lay foundations for a scam is a serious level of dedication that we've never devoted to anything. 

When this scammer was brought back from the brink by a nurse he was so grateful that he decided to pull a scam on the nurse and her husband. But he didn't know who he was messing with, this husband was going to chase him to the ends of the earth and expose him for his dastardly ways.

This thread was posted to r/ProRevenge by the husband who exacted the revenge on this nearly-almost-dead scammer. He posted the story with the title "[Long AF] I was unemployed, this guy scammed me. Revenge is still pouring on him." This is a long tale indeed but worth the read for those with a long enough attention span. 

Ol' Benny Lowy had his name besmirched and ran through the mud and he deserved every bit of it.

The world is like a Rube Goldberg machine of danger. We can never be too sure if one action is going to have lasting consequences down the road, but with the power of hindsight we're often shown how things could have turned out for us in a bad way. Choosing to not go to a particularly sketchy party, breaking up with someone who's starting to give you super weird vibes, or simply getting on the freeway 5 minutes later than you expected can all have terrifyingly huge consequences down the line.

OP had a coworker who she'd known for years strike up a conversation that resulted in some wildly creepy, completely delusional nice guy sideshow garbage behavior. This dude seems to fit every stereotype of the creepy, unstable nice guy. The unsolicited texting, the insults, the completely misread signals. It all comes together in a tempest of creepiness that this guy is probably regretting putting into written words and sending to a coworker.

Maybe the weirdest thing about moments like these is that it's extremely easy to not act this way. There are a lot of sure-fire ways to tell if someone is giving you signals. Most notably, if they have a fiancé, that's usually a pretty good indicator that they're not totally interested. There are so many better ways to go about it than this. At least he showed his true colors so everyone knows how much of a disrespectful cretin he is.

Internet Convinces Employee to Quit After Bad Boss Steals Tips

This employee signed on to work at a pizza place in Washington State, despite all of the red flags they could see during the interview and hiring process. 

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit by the employee, a Redditor who has since deleted their account information to hide their identity and cover their tracks to help avoid backlash from the employer in relation to the post. Posts like this can be a considerable risk to the poster, and it's not uncommon for things like this to get back to an employer (or ex-employer) and cause them to seek reparations or retribution. After all, the bosses who end up in these stories aren't the most well adjusted in the first place. This is especially an issue in small communities where the employer often holds a lot of power over the employee's ability to get another job in the town or the industry. 

The post is a poorly formatted, rambling rant that exudes the frustration that the poster must have felt when they wrote it. They're clearly upset at the injustice they have faced in their employment which is more than understandable. 

Commenters picked up on this and quickly voiced their support, encouraging the employee to walk away without notice. We workers are often afraid to do this as we are scared of damaging our reputation or losing a reference. Especially when you're just starting your employment journey, it's important to remember that a few weeks will never matter. Usually, you wouldn't want to use these terrible employers as a reference anyways.

When her parents realized she was gone they immediately started playing the victim and complaining about how it "Wasn't fair" for her to "make them worry for her safety." This tactic has been, thus far, unsuccessful and their daughter is determined to make this work.

If you have an idiot boss, it's important to remember that to them, the impression they get of the work you do is a lot more important than the actual amount of work you do. IT sounds counter-intuitive, and extremely stupid, but at a stupid workplace, that's just how it is. Add in a healthy dose of favoritism and crap work politics, and you've got yourself a real frustrating 9-5. That happened in this case where OP went above and beyond to actually do his job correctly only to be reprimanded for making his own supervisor look bad. And when management started bending over backwards to find OP to be at fault for literally anything, the choice became pretty clear; it was a good opportunity to part ways.

It's very seldom that the instigator of a disagreement should get the chance to play the victim. Maybe if the instigator leads with a minor offense and the other party takes the nuclear option, then there might be some wiggle room on that statement.

Apart from that, if you're going to dish it out, you'd better be ready to take it back, especially when the dishing is (arguably) far more offensive than what you're taking back. 

Commenting on someone's physical appearance is never ok and is on the list of "Things to avoid doing in order not to be a d-bag." It's often the source of heavy insecurity and likely has been a target of choice for bullies in their past. You should never do this to a stranger, and you should certainly never do this to your partner. 

So, when this husband decided to make a comment (in front of his family nonetheless) about his wife's small breasts he accepted whatever consequences were coming back to him. He opened the playing field for retaliation and, for some reason, was unable to hack it. 

This guy probably doesn't deserve to be married to anyone if he is going to treat his partners in this manner. The guy needs to grow up and get his attitude adjusted. What an a-hole.

This employee was rewarded for their fantastic sense of humor with two paid weeks off work. It's fantastic that their boss has such an incredible sense of humor and is willing to reward their employees for honesty. 

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit this week, where it went viral, earning a whopping 71k upvotes so far. It was published by the suspended employee, Reddit user u/SkrandyNick, who shared images of their work's group messages. The messages show the boss congratulating the team on a job well done, to which u/SkrandyNick responded with their meme.

The meme template is a webcomic macro known as "Drowning High Five," which shows a situation where you are receiving something other than the assistance you are desperately needing. By using this template, u/SkrandyNick was calling out their workplace for offering congratulations for a job well done while simultaneously pouring more and more work onto fewer people. 

When the boss responded that they would "have a conversation" in the evening, they responded with another meme using the "You Go to Jail" template, which features a scene from the show Parks and Recreation.

Boss Fires Employee Then Asks Them to Cover a Shift on Easter

That's gonna be a no from me dawg.

This employee was called in by their new ex-boss to help cover a shift on Easter… Shortly after the boss had fired them for refusing to work out of state for four weeks on their own dime. 

This thread was posted to the r/antiwork subreddit by the employee, Redditor u/Ok-Character3000, who had only been working at the company for eleven weeks when the request came through. 

"So I was with this company for 11 weeks, and it was all pretty dumb already. But I didn't mind because it was more of an in-between kind of job. So Easter is today and I got a message last week asking me to come in and cover and catch up so people could take their vacations." u/Ok-Character3000 describes. 

They decided that they would rather move on than go out of town at their own cost, so they gladly accepted the firing.  

"So I just refused to go. I just didn't go. They gave me a two-week notice and I was fired.

Come around to a few days after my termination, and they start texting me saying, 'Well you don't have kids, so how about covering for us? Huh? Huh? Huh?'

And my response is "I was literally fired, so NO."

She offered what she felt were strong justifications for her decision-making process and posted the topic with the title "AITA for telling my Fiance to get over himself?"

Commenters unanimously disagreed with her and told her that she was entirely in the wrong. They were sure to point out that leaving an open seat at an event to honor a loved one is extremely common and a great way to include the deceased in an event. 

Hopefully, this bride changes her ways and learns to accept her fiancé's needs. 

 

Resident Nurse Quits When Coerced Into Taking Another of Their Boss's Shifts, So Boss Can Go to Kid's Basketball Game

A Resident Nurse studying to become Nurse Practitioner has resigned from her position after her boss's condescension and harassment. She tried to express that she could not take yet another shift because she was so exhausted and behind on her studies. Her boss didn't care; she just wanted to go to her kid's basketball game. Whatever the cost. That cost ended up being losing another employee.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/Antiwork subreddit, where it went viral and had, so far, earned 47k upvotes on the popular subreddit. The images of the text message exchange were posted by the Resident Nurse, Reddit user u/serrafinagal. They posted the thread with the title "I'm an RN, I'm studying for my master's to become a Nurse practitioner, I'm done six straight 12-hour night shifts, this is the tip of a whole ShitBerg. I'll do an ama if you want more info."

They went on to express that they had one regret in leaving their job, "[T]his is s job that had 1 upside, the patients who I feel awful for leaving." but it was more important, at the end of the day, that they focus on their wellbeing and their studies to become a Nurse Practitioner.

Commenters were overwhelmingly supportive and gave the posting nurse some great advice and put the boss on blast.

Brother's Unemployed Girlfriend Designates Herself Planner of Family Gatherings, Gets Uninvited

When you're attached to a family group through a romantic relationship, you should feel like part of the family. If the family you're joining is healthy and decent, they will welcome you with open eyes. But that is a two-way street; it is also up to you to read the room and not overstep your place. 

In case you were wondering… Designating your unemployed ass as the on-tap family planner and sending people lists of chores they need to complete at their own home is definitely overstepping. 

Well, this guy's brother's girlfriend really needed to hear that piece of advice because she decided that her job would be precisely that.

"I'm hosting Easter at my house because I have a large yard for the kids to hunt eggs. As usual Harper sent the family spreadsheets for the event. Apparently my job as host is to "properly" clean my house. Weed and mulch my flower beds and remove a dead TREE on the edge of the property. There was a "Tips and Tricks" for lawn care she added at the bottom. Harper has decided to cook the food, her budget is $120, $155 if I want a cake."

The guy, who was the poster of the topic, took offense to her demands and sent her the following message back:

"I emailed her back and simply said, "Who invited you?" She texted me a bunch of question marks. I texted back "Unfortunately, there will be no-plus ones to watch my kids find eggs in the yard. If I let my brother bring a date then I'd have to let my other guests bring dates and we have already hit our budget of buying a grocery store ham. Sorry, I'm sure you understand how these things are. Best wishes!"

Employer Illegally Threatens to Confiscate Earned Tips If Employees Use Their Cellphones

This poster was posted online after it was put up in a break room of a restaurant. It was shared to Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit, where it has earned seven thousand upvotes and sparked discussion over the employer's threat to keep tips and the legality surrounding that. 

Reddit user u/SourceIntelligent741was responsible for sharing the image and creating the thread that sparked the discussion, posting the picture with the title "Is this even legal? Servers make $3 an hour in this area, and you can take their tips?"

The sign in the photo reads:

"When you clock in turn your cell phone OFF. Texting and cell phone use while on the clock is a violation of company policy. This is non-negotiable. 

1st violation - you lose your tips for the day

2nd violation - you lose your tips for the week

3rd violation - you could lose your job."

Commenters have responded that it is, in fact, illegal for an employer to threaten or withhold already earned tips or wages. "It's illegal for an employer to take your tips or alter pay for hours already done." One of the top comments said, which someone who claimed to be an employment lawyer verified.

Rare Insults That Left People Uniquely Destroyed

Sure, we could spend the rest of our days calling each other "douchenozzle" if we wanted to, but that word peaked in 2012, and it's been played out to the point that it means almost nothing. What really strikes fear into someone's soul is when you call them "an absolute nothing, a void so bereft of anything meaningful or intriguing that it sucks in the value of people around it. A black hole that lets just enough light escape to show everyone that it is also ugly."

Of course, that takes a little bit of time to say, and we're not gonna really have the forethought to scream that at someone in traffic. But it's something.

People on the internet might not be very good at common human decency or math, but one thing they excel at is taking someone down a peg. As is the way of these rare insults that cut straight to the bone.

Shameless HOA Karen Forces Dad to Take Down Treehouse He Built With His Kids, He Posts This Message

This photo went viral after a walker encountered this incredibly sad poster in the woods behind a row of houses in their neighborhood. The message on the poster expresses emotions of hopeless frustration that this dad must have encountered in the face of the neighborhood's HOA and the busybody Karens who reported his treehouse. 

The disappointed dad put the Karens of his neighborhood on blast as the reports from people complaining about the sight of the treehouse in the woods behind their family home led to him having to remove the treehouse. 

"Don't worry, you're safe now! Your act of casual cruelty was successful," the sad dad wrote, "The complaint you lodged with the HOA was heard. They had me take down the small tree fort that I built on this location with my sons during the pandemic. No longer will its presence offend your walk past my house."

"Please enjoy your stroll free from the sound of my children's play and laughter." The dad continued, "They are safely back inside now, watching television I'm sure."

As commenters have pointed out in the Reddit thread where this was posted, it's a shame that the older generations make such a big deal about how kids don't play outside as much anymore. Yet, the world has become increasingly restrictive, smaller, and less accessible for children under their watch. If they want to complain about kids not playing outside anymore, they need to look at themselves as the reason. 

 

Contractor Told to Attend "Mandatory" Meeting, Declines, Told to Answer Phone, Declines Again

This contractor was told that they had to attend a meeting by the company that they contracted. The issue was that the company had insisted that they sign them on as a contractor rather than an employee, and there wasn't anything in the contract dictating that they had to attend meetings. 

This was initially posted on Twitter by the contractor, @birdrespecter, before being shared to and going viral on Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit. 

The concerned workers of r/antiwork were highly supportive of the contractor's response to the boss, which was flat-out refusing to attend any meetings. The manager of the company then tried to tell the contractor that they needed to answer their phone and discuss the meetings. The contractor declined again, reminding the manager that they didn't have to do anything except what was contained within their defined contract. 

Commenters jumped in to voice their knowledge about contracting terms. "Yep." said one commenter, "If you are an independent contractor in my state (maybe all states?) your employer CANNOT require that you do your job on a schedule set by them or that you show up at any specific times. It has to be mutually agreeable times."
