Twitter Thread: Nintendo Drops the First Look at 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' Here Some of the First Takes (October 7, 2022)

In case you missed it, in the last hour, Nintendo has finally slid the curtain back on the Super Mario Bros. Movie by releasing a teaser trailer that totaled 2:29 in length. This small glimpse has (predictably) caused an explosion of reactions on Twitter, where the movie has been hotly anticipated.

There has been much debate on the platform surrounding the direction the movie will take, which took a worrying turn when the movie's eclectic voice-acting cast was unveiled. Fans were concerned with how Jack Black might sound as Bowser. They wondered how his trademark sing-song voice might come across as the King of the Koopas -and WOW. As far as we can tell from the trailer, Jack will carry this film hard. Bowser is spot on what a lot of us had always imagined in our heads for the character.

Mario… Maybe not so much. After a stunning opening that shows Bowser laying siege to a Fortress, the trailer swaps to Mario, voiced by Chris Pratt (…he's so cool), bouncing out of a pipe. As Mario opens his mouth, it becomes abundantly clear that Chris has (yet again) smashed it out of the park by using nothing more than his normal-ass speaking voice.

Scroll through to see some of these early reactions. It will be interesting to see how the consensus develops over the coming days. I'm betting we see Jack Black's part being lauded and Chris's lambasted.

Creepy Dude Gets Caught Spying on His Girlfriend While She Watches His Apartment

The guy set up a literal camera in his living room to spy on his girlfriend while she did him the favor of watching over his apartment because he was out of town.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AmITheButtface subreddit by u/b_ttercup, who shared what happened to her two friends. Although their relationship was largely under wraps, they had been seeing each other for 8-9 months and one partner confided in the Redditor about it. Not long after, the girlfriend discovered the hidden camera while she was housesitting for her boyfriend and frantically called the Redditor.

Now, most of the people in their friend group (including the girlfriend) have forgiven this guy, but the original poster remains completely grossed out by his actions. Our hot take on this is that while she can't necessarily fault her friends for forgiving him, the reality is she owes this guy nothing. If she has no desire to have a friend like that in her life, that's totally her decision. Personally, I'd cut this guy off.

We've seen plenty of stories about relationship drama lately. Like this one, in which a guy fed his gluten-free girlfriend regular pizza. Keep scrolling below for the original post!

Top Trending Laughable Work Moments This Week (October 6, 2022)

Ah, corporate culture. Can't live with it, can't live without…well, couldn't we?

These top trending laughable corporate culture moments this week, which were compiled from Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit, may range in subject matter but at the end of the day, they all boil down to one inevitable question: why is the workplace still like this? From forcing employees not to discuss their wages/salaries to organizing tone-deaf mental health day activities, corporations really are incapable of being anything but annoying.

Take a look at these ridiculous examples below, and for more infuriating content like this, check out this story about an employee who was ordered to come to work after quitting.

Entitled Karen Gets Called Out for Vaping on a Plane, Cue Karen Tantrum

This Karen knew exactly what she was doing and got exactly what she deserved. Vaping on a plane is obviously a big no-no and her poor attempts to conceal her vape are just embarrassing. Not that we condone breaking the rules, but if you're going to do it, do a better job, jeez!

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/F***YouKaren subreddit by u/Some_zealot, who was very much the savior in this situation. Not only did he call Karen out to the flight attendant, but also he glared at this woman for the entire flight. She also littered everywhere and smacked an elderly lady in the face with her luggage at the end of the flight (hopefully, that lady is ok…).

We expect that this Karen will not learn her lesson, so if any of you do end up on a plane with her, let's all learn from Richard and call her out when we see her poorly concealed vaping. It's not only rude and against the rules, but she's also spreading her little addiction onto everyone around her. 'Failure to comply [...] will result in disciplinary action': Viral thread shows workplace limiting employee's breaks to 'approved areas'

This image went viral today after it was posted to Reddit's r/antiwork community. The photo shows a notice that was posted in an apparent break room notifying workers of changes to policy regarding worker breaks. The changes prohibit workers from taking their breaks in their vehicles and require workers to instead take their breaks in "approved areas".

"Breaks and lunches will no longer be allowed to be taken in your vehicles." the notice reads. "Approved areas are the breakroom and picnic area out front. You can no longer be in the parking lot during work time without permission from your Supervisor.
Failure to comply with our safety rules will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment."

Breaks are often the only time that many workers have to take a moment for themselves. They offer workers a chance to disconnect and dissociate for a few moments before they get back to the demanding rigors of their job. It seems absurd to impose requirements on this time, especially when the worker's breaks are unpaid. Some exhausted workers relish the chance to remove themselves entirely from their work environment; getting out and into your vehicle during your break is one of the things that allows you to take back a little control of your day.

Readers were outraged at these rules and let their thoughts be known in the comments. What are your thoughts on this?

Unhinged 'Choosing Beggar' Wants to Set His Own Rate For Art Commission, Freaks Out When Told 'No'

Nothing in this world is free; if you want something, you're going to have to pay for it - somehow, in some way. Except, this isn't how the entitled folk of our planet see things - The world is theirs for the taking. And the rest of us? Well, we're just paid actors.

This is how the stage is set whenever we see these entitled "choosing beggars" trying to stupidly brute force their way into getting something that they haven't earned. Unfortunately, freelance artists and other contractors often have frequent encounters with these people in a time-wasting game of tug of war - and when time is money, exposure and monopoly money don't pay the bills.

Enter stage right - this f-ing guy. He wanted to commission a piece from this artist with detailed requests regarding pose and props. However, when the artist responded with their pricing, the guy was determined to set a price of his own. When rebuffed, he proceeded to fly off the handle.

Keep browsing with your eyes to see the screenshots of this thread, posted to Reddit's r/choosingbeggars community by the artist, Redditor u/sirhedgenald.

'I slammed the door in my uncle's face': Homophobic uncle asks for gay nephew to watch his kid, gets what he deserves

Imagine being gay and having a homophobic uncle turn his back on you, keep his kids physically away from you at family gatherings, and refuse to show up to your wedding…only to later come over unannounced to try and dump his kid on you for the day.

That's exactly what happened to this Redditor, who shared his story via this thread on Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit. Thankfully, as the title of this post suggests, the original poster turned what could have been a traumatizing experience into a triumphant one when he slammed the door in his uncle's face.

While the uncle's behavior here was nothing new, what was a bit more surprising here was the response from the Redditor's parents. His parents, who have historically always been supportive, voiced their concern that family is family and the Redditor should apologize for doing that, blah blah blah. Ok, here's the thing: when it comes to homophobic comments, it's simply not the responsibility of the VICTIM in this situation to shake it off, suck it up, and forgive hateful comments for the sake of the family. We know better in 2022: if these parents were truly supportive, they would fiercely defend their son. As for the uncle, let's be real here: anyone that performative with their homophobia most likely has a secret Grindr profile.

You don't know fear until you've stared down the feral fury of an untamed beast. That's the kind of fear this Karen experienced facing this truly fearsome corgi puppy. If you asked her, she would tell you that the experience was like encountering an enraged mother grizzly while hiking in the woods with a rack of barbecued ribs in your pack.
