Gaming can be a great hobby; it can be exciting, relaxing, and really get your blood moving in those tense situations that get the adrenaline pumping. Still, it lends itself to being taken a little to seriously; competitive passion can often turn into nasty toxic behavior towards the people on the other side of the screen. Some gaming communities, particularly the ones that require large investments of time to develop the skill to play the game correctly and rely heavily on team cooperation, lend themselves to the worst sorts of toxic behavior. For that reason, MOBAs like League of Legends and DOTA2 have reputations in the gaming world for the poor behavior of their player base. The particular problem arises from the fact that a loss or victory in these games often stems from the performance (or lack thereof) of a single player on the team; couple this with the fact that a single game requires an uninterrupted investment of an hour of each player's time, and you have a recipe for some massive behavioral outbursts. This isn't like a Fortnite lobby where, when you die, you go back to the menu screen and can immediately start over. No, if you die and fall behind the other team, you're going to be stuck suffering for the next hour. It's even harder when this toxic behavior comes from someone you haven't randomly paired with in-game… But sometimes, their behavior presents the chance for some glorious malicious compliance—as it did here. Next, check out this kid who figured out a genius way to circumvent their school's firewall so that they could access flash games to play at school—a fun nostalgia trip for those who were in school around this same time.

'Ted got himself fired': Guy leaves coworker stranded in the rain ignores all his emails
When it comes to names, this man is not playing around. Nicknames come naturally to some people, especially if you have a formal name that's common to shorten, like how many Williams go by Billy. Other people gain nicknames that match their career, hobbies, or personality instead. The man in this story from r/AmItheA**hole actually really hates the nickname he's been given by his coworker, and he finally snapped one day. The workplace tale, told by u/notmyd***name, highlights the importance of mutual respect in a work environment. In the comments, people debated if the OP went too far with his plan, or if he was justified. One person said it was an ESH situation, which I tend to agree with, too. If the OP had brought it up to HR or insisted to their boss that the issue needed to be resolved, then Ted might not have lost his temper. But Ted also acted really unprofessionally — he wouldn't be the first person to lose their job over writing or saying inappropriate things to a coworker. Up next, click here to read about this waiter, who had a hilarious idea to stop a bunch of diners from dashing off without paying.
I don't work for you anymore': IT manager quits then cuts off entire company's internet service leading to company 3 day shutdown
Companies need to be careful with who they pick when searching for a job candidate to work in a managerial role, as often their choice can make or break a team. In this case, OP was an IT manager for a company that was searching for a successor to run the store in the owner's place. Soon enough, they found a 'worthy candidate', but the candidate in question turned out to be not only terrible at running the show but was also rude and entitled overall as a person. This resulted in 15 employees quitting their jobs in the first three months that this new manager was working. The company then switched over to cost-cutting mode, so long-time vendors were replaced with friends or family of the new manager, services were downgraded or cut, and payment plans for the sales department were messed with, which further eroded the morale of the workforce. Eventually, OP had enough and decided he was going to quit. After doing so, his manager told him he was no longer a part of the company, and should no longer involve himself in work matters. A few days later, OP received a call from his local internet provider, who told him that his internet service bill had gone unpaid for the last six months, and would get cut off if he didn't pay immediately. OP remembered the last words of his manager, telling him that he was not to interfere in company matters… so OP decided to maliciously comply. This led to a variety of problems for the company. I will get you fired: Karen customer attempts to get front desk clerk fired after being denied service front desk clerk refuses to call manager
Dodging Karens while working in the hospitality industry is an unattainable dream for optimists. After working with a wide variety of guests and their entitled attitudes, the word optimist disappears from your dictionary. In this case, OP was working the front desk at a hotel, enjoying her night when an unreasonable potential guest entered the lobby. The man, who we will dub Karen, asked OP for a room that night, and was told by OP that they would need to put a refundable $100 deposit on his card for incidentals. The man was less than pleased and asked if it was really necessary, so OP replied back in a joking manner, to which he quickly took offense. The man told OP that she wasn't being professional, and demanded she fix her tone. He then gave OP his card to pay for the room, but at that point, OP realized that she didn't want to have to deal with this entitled guest, and refused him service. The man's eyes widened considerably, and he immediately demanded to speak to her manager, who would only return the following day. OP explained that he was more than welcome to file a complaint the next day, but he wanted to file a complaint now. He began yelling at OP, saying he was going to get her fired, and things went downhill from there. Scroll down to read the full, detailed account of events. 'I lied about how much I currently earn': Desperate worker lands a better job by exaggerating their current earnings
Sometimes you have to fake it 'till you make it; that may or may not include when it comes to your salary. I'm not sure you're on the right side of ethics if you do this, but as long as you can prove your aptitude and actually perform in the role, then you probably deserved that salary anyway. And it's not like some employers wouldn't do the same and lowball you if they thought they could get away with it.
'I wanted revenge': Contractor engineer charges company $9000 to press a button after they try to cheat him
Why is it that so many businesses would rather lose $10 in the name of saving $1? Time and time again, extreme cost-saving measures end up costing more in the long run. This engineer left the company they worked for shortly after completing the installation of an important mystery machine (No, not the one from Scooby-Doo.) For some reason, the manager at the client's site kept their number and contacted them personally to come and rectify an error with the machine. They agreed that the engineer would come in on the weekend to complete contract work on the machine at twice their usual rate. Everything was going according to plan until the manager came in and told them that they would no longer be able to pay them. They still needed to get the mystery machine working, didn't they? This moment of cheapness would cost them big time. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/ProRevenge subreddit by the engineer, u/AwkLemon, who shared their brilliant story of revenge. 'My trap had worked': Touring Karen demands to be taken into bear territory tour guide gives her a scare
This seemingly dangerous story has an unexpectedly wholesome ending. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by u/zeemdyx, the son of our story's protagonist. Back in the '80s, the Redditor's father was volunteering at a ranch in Montana and was giving various nature tours when he came across a rude Karen making one of the other tour guides cry. OP's dad asked if he could take Karen off the other guide's hands and proceeded to give her the rest of the tour. However, he had other plans in mind. When he asked Karen if she wanted to go the official or the far more dangerous "unofficial" route, of course, she pretended to be all high and mighty and demanded to do the latter. Well, be careful what you wish for, I guess! Our hero took Karen on that unofficial route and lo and behold, they wound up having a run-in with a bear. I guess there's nothing like a grizzly to make Karen atone for her sins. By the time they got back to the ranch, Karen demanded that OP's father be fired, but he was best buddies with the owner of the ranch, so he was all in the clear. Keep scrolling below for the unexpected romantic twist in the story. For more stories like this, here's another post about a barista's revenge on a different Karen.
