Oops of the Day: Arizona Congressman Mistakes Boko Haram with Boca Raton
One ruthlessly kills thousands of people and the other is nice place to relax in the sun.
In an interview last week with CNN, U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz. mistakenly referred to Boko Haram, the Islamist terrorist organization in Nigeria, as “Boca Raton,” the city in Florida.
They were discussing the issue of paying ransom to terrorists for kidnapping victims.
“Once you start doing that, then everybody, every American citizen traveling abroad becomes a subject in regard for kidnapping and then the plight of how much money has been captivated in the Boca Raton group,” Gosar said.
The mayor of the city in Florida, Susan Haynie, laughed at the mistake.
“While I’m pleased that the congressman from Arizona would have the name of Boca Raton on his lips, I am disappointed that he would confuse our vibrant, beautiful city with a movement promoting Islamist insurgency in Nigeria,” she said.
It was a simple slip of the tongue. Just don’t make the same one when planning your spring break this year.
Fail of the Day: Krispy Kreme Promotes ‘KKK Wednesday’ on Facebook
Do you enjoy your donuts with a nice cold glass of white power?
Krispy Kreme in the UK posted a very unfortunate promotional image on their Facebook page this week, which has since been taken down.
Alongside some less controversial activities like “Funday Monday,” “Balloon Madness” and “Face Painting Thursday” sits “KKK Wednesday.”
The event is scheduled for February 18, and runs from 12pm-5pm, so 5 hours of hate-filled donut revelry!
“KKK” is actually intended to stand for “Krispy Kreme Klub,” but to most people this connotes white hoods and cross burning.
The company has apologized for the mishap in a statement.
Krispy Kreme apologises unreservedly for the inappropriate name of a customer promotion at one of our stores. We are truly sorry for any offence this completely unintentional oversight may have caused. All material, both online and in the store, has been withdrawn and steps are being taken to ensure that greater precautions are taken with publicity materials in the future.
They add that the event was designed to attract customers into the shop to decorate doughnuts using their Krispy Kreation Station product and not as a casual Ku Klux Klan meetup with glazed refreshments.

Last night I was sound asleep and I get a call from her saying "I just opened the door and there was a snake coming out from underneath the steering wheel in the dashboard". Whoops!!!!
