Hey, remember that stupid, viral challenge a few summers ago that had celebrities and your weird aunt on Facebook alike dumping a bucket of ice water over their heads? A lot of people at the time criticized it for being the same kind of "slacktivism" as a filter on your profile picture or a status update. Well, for once, we have good news. THIS ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING. According to the ALS Association, this trend raised $115 million, $77 million went to research which so far has found at least three new gene variants that can be linked to ALS.
