'We don't want a dog': Aunt buys nieces puppy as a surprise present without asking their parents, dad loses it

In my completely unbiased opinion, dogs might be one of the greatest creatures on this earth. Though, it remains a fact that they're a lot of work—work that is worth it if you have the patience, time, and money… and are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to ensure that they have a good quality of life and that you're being a responsible owner.

If you think bringing a dog into your life doesn't require a huge change in lifestyle and responsibility—then I really worry about your poor dog and the people affected by your irresponsible ownership. For, when you take a neglected dog out into public spaces, it becomes a burden on everyone else.

Giving someone the gift of this immense responsibility without first making darn well sure they want it is—well—insane. Heck, giving someone a plant as a gift can even be too much responsibility for some people, let alone giving them what is essentially the 'lite' version of parenthood. There will be bills to pay, food to be purchased, training to be done, and 5 AM potty breaks to be overseen—you can't just give everyone all of that as a surprise present. It's basically making a split-second decision for someone and going, "Here you go! Enjoy the next 8-12 years of your life!"

So, when this husband, father, and brother shared his experience on an online community, it was easy to see why readers resoundingly took his side. His sister, a "dog mom," brought her nieces home from an outing, bringing with them a furry guest—to the parent's horror. There had been no conversations and no warning about the surprise gift, which led to the parents deciding to take the puppy to the pound.

Read on for the husband's account of events and the verdicts that readers posted in the comments. Next, see this friend who wanted to stay with a family while he was down on his luck but demanded that the family get rid of their dog first.

'He manages to destroy more than $2 million in material': 20+ Employees and their coworkers who made giant mistakes at work

These people shared the biggest and funniest ways they've ever messed up at work. Maybe they didn't find it funny at the time, but looking back on your mistakes can be hilarious.

Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and some are much more serious than others. U/headtotoe asked people to tell about the worst mistakes they've ever made in the workplace. After a little bit of pushing from commenters, the OP shared the mistake that led them to ask the question. They wrote that at their data entry job at a newspaper, they input some wrong digits. In turn, their mistake trickled down to the mail carriers, who didn't have enough papers to give to each customer. Then, those customers got annoyed that they didn't get their newspaper subscription, and complained about it to the company. Then, the OP writes, they did it again the next day! It's impressive how one mistake can lead to a cascade of other things gone wrong.

These people who shared their stories below are from all types of industries, from waiting tables to working in IT to working in the legal field. Check out all the responses below, and next time you make a mistake, remember that someone else has definitely done something worse.

After that, this boss tried to tell her babysitter to miss her own sister's wedding just to take care of the boss's kids instead

Top 15 Wholesome Pickup Lines of the Week (July 24, 2023)

Everyone acts like they don't like a cheesy pickup line, but have you ever actually gotten one? They're kind of great. The good ones, of course. And we've collected some creative ones for you to use on your next Tinder, Hinge, or Bumble date.

These top wholesome pickup lines serve as yet another reminder that even in the brutal world of online dating, chivalry isn't totally dead. Sure, we had to sift through lots of unsavory pickup lines to get to the good ones, but the good ones do still exist, buried underneath the nonsense. There's still hope left for the hopeless romantics of the world.

Here's hoping that this list will inspire some of you folks to clean up your acts and behave better on these apps. Maybe then you'll actually get to meet one of these matches in person and sweep them off their feet. Ok, maybe that's wishful thinking, but we can dream.

Keep scrolling below for the full list. For more content like this, here are some of the biggest dating app flops from this past week.

'Forget you're never loved': 25 Designs that should go back to the drawing board

Graphic designers have "off" days too. But sometimes these designs are so poorly done that I wonder if the designer was trying to do it badly on purpose. Or maybe their client had so many changes and tweaks to the design that the designer got fed up, threw up their hands, and did the worst possible job.

Below are some rather poorly designed shirts, buildings, and signs. Once you start taking notice of poor designs like these, you start seeing them everywhere.

My favorite is the balcony of many head bumps (#2). Hovering just four-ish feet above the ground, this first floor balcony has a giant gap underneath, which I'm sure kids and adults alike love to walk underneath. The balcony is also chained off with some unfriendly-looking chains and poles, probably because the people who live there never get a break from folks walking under or around their balcony. I'd feel so awkward living there, being at eye level with people strolling by, as the balcony takes up most of the sidewalk they need.

Check out all the funny fails below. Then, this employee isn't sure how to tell their boss that they need their lunch break to unwind, instead of answering tons of questions.

'If they shenan once, they'll shenanigan': 16 Times One Person Failed and It Ended the Fun for Everyone Else

Remember when you were little and you would go on a field trip and as long as you had a buddy, you could go explore where ever you wanted? Like at the zoo or museum, and then be back for lunchtime. What freedom you felt when you were allowed to do that as a kid! But there is always that one kid… That ONE entitled or just unlucky little kid who ruins it for everyone. Maybe they get lost and now nobody is allowed to be anywhere without a chaperone. Or maybe they decided to go somewhere they weren't allowed and now your school is uninvited to have filed trips there. What a friggin' bummer that was. Well, you'd think we all grow up and not pull those kinds of shenanigans again. But as the internet has taught us, if they shenani'd once you better believe they're gonna shenan-again. Reddit has been gathering all the times this has happened to adults back when they were kids AND now as adults—some of these instances are just plain obnoxious. See for yourself below!

'Rules are rules, sweetie': Beachgoers tell lifeguard to enforce the rules, lifeguard finds petty rules to enforce on them

This beach is full of old money folks who are used to getting their way. As u/fumples explained in their story to r/MaliciousCompliance, they had to deal with some rather irritating women who made it their goal to police everybody at the beach

Going to the shore for a summer vacation is the highlight of the summer for those who live along the coast. It's common for families to plan a few days of relaxation at the beach, where the kids can build sandcastles and play in the waves, while the adults catch a nap or read a good book. The Jersey shores are known for attracting hordes of people to their boardwalks, where you can mini-golf, snack on funnel cakes and ice cream, and ride amusement park rides on the piers. It's a classic wholesome good time for all, and lifeguards help to keep everyone safe while in the water.

That didn't stop these two women from telling the OP how to do their lifeguarding job. They had a really silly request, which had no reasoning beyond wanting to control someone else. At least the OP was able to make the women regret spoiling someone else's beach day. Scroll down to read the entire story.

'This looks like a personal print job': Boss makes employees pay to use printer for personal use, employee catches boss breaking the rules

There's nothing more satisfying than proving to everyone in the office that your manager's pointless rules are... well, pointless. We all know that there are a number of "office policies" that apply here. Some of these include what time you come into the office, what time you leave, always needing to be at your desk, the endless remote/in-person work debate, etc. The degree to which these policies are pointless obviously varies from office to office and from profession to profession, but generally speaking, many of these policies are simply socially constructed disciplinary rules that have little to do with one's actual responsibilities.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/pettyrevenge, but it could also easily serve as a perfect malicious compliance story as well. In this office, OP's boss frequently enforced a nonsense rule that if you ever needed to use the printer for personal reasons, you would have to pay to do so. Once, OP had to print their resume for an in-company interview. When their manager saw what they were printing, she disagreed that it was job-related and made the employee pay up. She claimed that this money would all be going to the Christmas party fund. That will be important later.

Not long after, OP discovered hundreds of pages in the printer announcing a sweet 16 party for their boss's daughter. Clearly, this was not work-related, and OP had a suspicious feeling that their manager was not abiding by the same rules. Keep scrolling below to see just how they managed to get some well-earned petty revenge on their boss. When you're finished, take a look at this post about the top 10 choosing beggars of the week!
