'[Am I the jerk] for getting a dog': Family orders adult woman to get rid of her pet dog because her brother is allergic

Growing up, it's important to listen to your parents. Generally, they have a lot of insight and experience that you lack at this point in your life—plus a healthy dose of resulting cynicism. Once you've graduated from their care and have your own place, you get to live your life on your own terms, free to make your own mistakes and live your own life—which often ends with you constantly asking them for advice anyways.

We value our parents and their advice, but some parents have trouble letting go and continue to interject and impose directives long after they're appropriate—or welcome—and often on things that aren't their business in the first place. Whether or not you want to own your own dog as an adult is one of those things, and demanding that your adult child get rid of their pet—in their own home—is downright insane. It's unfortunately what this Redditor was facing when their parents demanded they get rid of their dog because of their brother's allergies.

'You Should Be Banned; Unmatch Now': Top Dating App Flops This Week (June 7, 2023)

Dating is a game, and if you're not playing then you're being played; that is the sort of sentence you'll hear a lot of people say nowadays, and for good reason. While technology has without a doubt helped improve our quality of life, it has also come as a detriment to others, such as modern dating. For example, the fact you have so many options may seem cool the first time you open an app, but you later come to realize that you were just wearing rose-colored glasses, blinded by the empty promises of Tinder. All these options are half the reason you are single. Whether it's because of your own FOMO, or somebody else's. The options are an illusion… the pesky algorithm sure sees to that.

In any case, you're not alone in your predicament. If you're single and hate navigating the game of dating, you may find comfort in these fails that people have posted to Reddit. Obviously, you aren't alone in your suffering, and Tinder isn't out to get you. For more, you can check out last week's collection of dating app convo's gone wrong, here.

'Do you have grass-fed salmon?': 30+ Ridiculously dumb questions waiters get asked by their customers

There are two types of people: those who check the menu before they get to the restaurant, and those who show up having no idea what they're going to order. Either way is fine — some people prefer to know exactly what dish they're going to get, while others like to hear the daily specials and decide on the spot. But people also show up to restaurants with lots of questions about their food…and some questions are way funnier than others.

We took a peek into the life of a waiter or waitress with this hilarious post from r/ServerLife. U/phatmatt593 asked for servers of the world to share their funniest encounters with people who aren't accustomed to dining out, and asked some funny questions about their food. The answers range from the hilarious to head-scratching. Check out the whole thread below.

Next, this woman insisted that her whole family join together for her daughter's recital… too bad that also meant bringing her screaming newborn along.

'Can my employer make me pay the difference?': Server accidentally orders wrong bottle of wine, manager makes them pay up

If this isn't a sign to start looking for work elsewhere, I don't know what is. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/TalesFromYourServer subreddit by u/420wasabisnappin, a server who made an innocent mistake on the job by ordering a $175 bottle of wine as opposed to the $100 bottle that was requested.

Now, their toxic manager wants the Redditor to pay the difference, which is about as red as a red flag can get. OP wanted to know if this was even legal, and the answer is that while it likely isn't, it's quite possible that they are going to find another excuse to fire OP next week. So if OP isn't already on the hunt for a new job, he might as well start looking now. Of course, we are on their side, especially considering that mistakes on the job should be expected. If a manager can't budget for that, then they shouldn't be a manager.

‘You can’t stay here': Karen demands refund for hotel room she never booked, front desk clerk refuses, Karen changes her game plan

Working in the hospitality industry is painfully awkward at times, and oftentimes leaves you with a bitter aftertaste, pining for a vacation that would preferably last over a year. Karens are commonplace, and make your job much harder than it needs to be. In this case, a Karen approached OP when they were working Night Audit at a busy hotel, demanding to be checked in immediately, rolling her eyes at OP in the process. OP knew right away that something was off, and asked for Karen's full name and details, which weren't in the reservation system.

Karen had a nonchalant attitude about her and was typing on her phone, barely looking OP in the eye. OP had to explain that Karen's details weren't showing up on her screen and that the hotel was fully booked, so she could not, in fact, check Karen in for the night. Karen did not take very kindly to this information and began to make a scene.

After a lot of back and forth, Karen had a complete meltdown, which included her slamming a tiny purse on OP's desk, wailing, and demanding to speak to the manager, who she 'knew well'. This was OP's cue to tell Karen that she was actually the manager. To say things went well after that would be an overstatement. Scroll down to read what happened. 'AM transistor radios from Radio Shack': 25 Old things people miss from the pre-internet era

What do you miss most from the days before the internet's glowing screens took up all our time? It turns out that lots of people have things they're nostalgic for! As numerous Twitter users shared, starting with @ThatEricAlper's prompt tweet, people miss everything from getting catalogues in the mail to being harder to get in contact with.

I still recall the days of having to travel to a library if I wanted to use a computer. We just didn't have a computer at our house at the time, and cell phones were still used just for calls and a bit of texting. If you had to write a book report, you had to check out books and photocopy the pages. It was so surreal compared with the screens-at-all-times lifestyle that's become the norm today.

People did used to be so offline, and yes, as some people noted, you did get bored pretty often! Today's kids may never know the feeling of boredom due to constant interactions with phones, iPads, and TVs. It was certainly a whole different world, and it's intriguing to hear what people reminisce about most fondly.
