'HOA is demanding I move my plane': Snooping neighbors insist homeowner remove the sensible buoys and safety signs around his seaplane

Home Owner's Associations often delight in trying to get people to change their homes, but this HOA extended their reach even further. 

For this person, their HOA didn't just try to control their property, but even made a lake their jurisdiction! As the OP wrote to r/AmItheA**hole, they live in a lakefront cottage. The OP is also a pilot who owns a seaplane, which they can keep conveniently parked in the water in front of their home. In an effort to keep everyone safe around the plane, the OP created their own warning signs, and put up buoys to demarcate a large area around the plane. Seems commonsensical? Not to this HOA, who came knocking at this homeowner's door to demand he get rid of it all.

Starting a new job can be as nerve-wracking as it is exciting. So many new doors open before you lead to new opportunities, which can bring a lot of uncertainty with it. Of course, those new doors won't lead anywhere at all if you show up on your third day to find them padlocked shut with a notice on the door…

That's what happened to this poor job-seeker, Reddit user yelloworange01, who shared their experience in a post to the popular r/antiwork subreddit, a community that deals with all kinds of workplace issues and discussion. In their post, they share what happened.

"[I] turned down three jobs for another offer," u/yelloworange01 wrote in the title of the thread. "Turned up for my third day at work. [The] company went into admin the night before and decided not to tell me, [they] just padlocked the door and left this."

The thread itself consisted of a photo of the notice that they said was posted at the front door of the business. The post explains the closure of the company due to financial business, though the worker was not personally notified.

In the comments, u/yelloworange01 explained further: "There was absolutely no warning to anyone, they laid off nearly 500 people and owed tens of thousands in unpaid commission to their staff, and the CEO filed bankruptcy." They also responded with more clarifying comments, sharing an email written by the CEO and some of the other fallout. 

It's hard to imagine giving up the security of your job for a new one, only to find yourself completely without any job at all when the offer is withdrawn, or the business shuts down. Yet, this does happen, and the company often doesn't even need a reason to withdraw.

'Firing me for exposing the company's illegal activities was also illegal, so instead she raged at me' : Employee maliciously complies with terrible manager, calls IT after finding error in system, resulting in fines amounting to $30,000

Companies often cheap out on buying software, instead opting to download a pirated version for free. If this were to come to light, the fines would be hefty, but a lot of companies get away with it. This one did not. An employee with no prior office experience was hired as a processor for a mortgage company. Her boss was extremely dismissive, as she looked down on her for having no experience. Her pride cost the company $30,000 in fines.

What happened was the following: An unknown error popped up on the screen one day, and OP wasn't sure how to fix it. All she knew was that she was told 'Never to call IT'. She approached her boss, who told her literally, to call IT. OP tried arguing, but her boss was adamant. Left with no choice, OP maliciously complied; she called IT, and they were 'incredibly helpful'. In fact, they were so helpful that they asked OP to print a diagnostic page and fax it to them to see if there were any other problems, as OP was 'new'. OP did.

Mistaking another customer for a worker is always a disastrous experience: You're embarrassed that you made a mistake, and they're confronted by the fact that someone thinks they look like a "lowly" retail worker. Depending on how much of a jerk the not-retail-worker customer actually is, they may just brush it off and leave you to stew in your embarrassment. Still, there's also the chance they explosively take offense to the situation.

When this happened to this blind customer, who had mistaken a Karen for a worker, luckily, there was another kind of customer standing by who was willing to help.

The dog mom/Karen defined herself as "a potential and a little upset customer," who was annoyed that the pet sitter didn't answer her fast enough. Despite the pretentious way Karen was talking to the pet sitter, the sitter remained polite… until the very end.

Essentially, this dude requested two more nights at a hotel and asked for the price to match that of his last stay. Mind you, this isn't a guest with a special deal or anything because of frequent stays. He only stayed there one other time. And when he claimed that the last person at the concierge desk made this baffling "price match" promise, the Redditor revealed that they remember very clearly being that same front desk employee and made no such promise.

This teen is scratching their head wondering if they're supposed to share with a neighbor. The limits of neighborly kindness definitely apply here!

This 16-year-old wrote to r/AmItheA**hole, asking about a situation that happened when their young neighbors — and the kids' entitled mom — came to visit. The OP says that they were playing with the kids, ages 7, 9, and 10, when they asked to play in her bedroom. The OP agreed, which might be mistake #1, because the nine year old quickly latched onto their special necklace. Gifted from the OP's cherished uncle, they wear the necklace every day. So they weren't about to give it up just because a bratty child kept demanding it. 

But what's really eye-opening is that the kid's mom backed her up! She got into a fight with the OP about it, making them wonder if they were just not "sharing" with their neighbor. In the comments, people sided with the OP, adding that the kid will be affected by her mother's entitlement throughout her own life.

After listening to some advice from folks in the comments section from his first post, the original poster decided to agree to coffee with his former bully. She continued to apologize and seemed to show remorse, but folks have plenty of thoughts as to whether or not this dude should consider allowing her to re-enter his life in this way, especially in a romantic capacity. One working woman and mother of four kids, recently got into a fight with her deadbeat husband about their shared parenting and Reddit is up in arms about it. As a full time working mother, she struggled to make home cooked meals every night, keep the house clean, and still find time to raise the kids right. Unfortunately for her, she was stuck doing it basically alone because her husband, who works a physical job, believed that his job was harder than hers and entitled him to long naps every day when he got home and he felt like he'd earned time to hang out with his friends. Not only that, but the hubby would bicker and complain when he didn't have a hot meal waiting for him when he got home. Ew. 

So one weekend, the woman simply needed a night to herself with her friends. Things went haywire when the husband was required to watch the children all on his lonesome. He screamed, he yelled, and packed his bags. When the wife got home, the house was a mess and the husband walked out immediately. I think it's pretty clear who the AH is here and it's certainly not the woman caring for a grand total of 5 useless, emotional children.

This manager took issue because one of their workers was taking discarded bread loaves from back-of-house disposal. The OP decided to be nice to her and let her borrow the winter beater for quite some time. 

However, the OP and his neighbor later got into a squabble about who had the rights to drive the winter beater. The OP had to make the choice to ditch the car due to the cost of repairs, and his neighbor not only disapproved, but she called him out online!

You think that's a funny little nihilistic point of view or meme? Nah, dog. That is real life. That is exactly what happened to a man who recently posted his getting-fired-story to TikTok. He had recently returned from vacation and was happy to get back to work. He was so excited on his "working block style" that he decided to record a time-lapse video of his progress to document his good work. 

However, in the middle of that recording he gets a call from his boss. You can see this man go from happily working and doing his job, to shock, disbelief, and then aghast—all in one quick time-lapse video. He didn't mean to record a very stressful and cruel moment in his life, but he did and now he'd like to share it with the world. Not just because it's kind of funny in a dark humor kind of way, but mostly because it provides further reason to not give your employer a two-weeks notice when you're about to quit. Because here is the proof that they will not provide you with that same courtesy. 

Luckily, this man seems to have another passion, which is cooking. He uses his TikTok account to post videos of his recipes. This video of him getting fired has since gone viral and he hopes it attracts people to his cooking videos so he can start a new career path in that route. 

‘You're gonna revoke our admin rights? Fine, no problem.' : Terrible manager gets fired after employees maliciously comply with his new inefficient company policy

Stories like this are a dime a dozen, the reason for that being that many new managers make the common mistake of trying to change rules that work, for rules that don't. One man was working for a subsidiary of a fortune 500 as a manager of a dev team. Everything was working perfectly until a new security manager came along, and revoked the admin rights of OP's team. This led to a handful of problems, which were brought to the security manager, who waved them off. In fact, he replied to every email in big, bold caps letters: NO.

Way to support your team, man. So, OP did the smartest thing someone in his position could do: He maliciously complied. What ensued was glorious, and ultimately got this manager fired. May this be a lesson to any new manager starting at a company. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

'Your neighbor sucks': Universally hated neighbor rants about holiday decorations, so now everyone decorates their houses for every single holiday

This neighbor fully made his own bed. I mean, it's like he was begging everyone else to enact some petty revenge on him. Give some people even a shred of power, and they will preside with an iron fist… devoid of any sense of justice except the whims of their own stupid ego. They'll generally not be overly concerned with anyone else's needs or wants. All is well—just as long as they have their own way. 

There's nothing inherently wrong with having to make changes to a schedule or roster; as a manager, that's just part of the job. Still, there are ways to do it and ways not to do it if you care a shred about the people you work with. Changes to a worker's schedule can disrupt their lives and lead them to face a lot of stress as they readjust to their work-life balance. And when not done with communication, consultation, and careful consideration, it can lead to team morale issues.

When the worker went to message the manager about their shift and conflict with availability and plans, the manager suggested they could quit if they didn't like it.

This entitled rich boy wanted his girlfriend to move in with him after her last place had a roach infestation. When she proposed that they move into a different neighborhood - one that she could afford - he insisted that there was no need. She moved into his luxury condo, and the agreement was that he would pay for her portion of the rent while she was finishing her graduate degree in social work.

 

The plot thickens. Clearly, this guy's friends accused the Redditor of being a gold digger because the boyfriend just up and changed his mind, suddenly demanding out of nowhere that his girlfriend pay $2.5K in rent. Seriously? The best twist in this story is that the original poster knew a line had been crossed and she got out of this situation as swiftly as she could. A round of applause to her!

What happens when an HOA Karen tries to enforce a rule without any real evidentiary support? Let's just say she's met with some retaliation and a triumphant case of malicious compliance. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by u/FirstContribution236, who set up cameras with their partner in front of their home and ensured that the neighbors' property would not be captured. However, this Karen (who was on the board of the HOA) decided that these cameras violated the bylaws despite there being no real rule about cameras. Still, she had the HOA send a strongly worded letter demanding that the cameras be taken down because they were a "nuisance" to the neighbors. 

 

The couple stood their ground and although they did eventually lose the case, they knew they would never be required to pay a fine. However, they also made sure that this process would be drawn out for a long time so that the HOA would have to pay a ton of legal fees along the way. Apparently, Karen thought she could get away with this behavior because her husband is an esteemed guest. What she didn't realize was that aggressively threatening someone on security camera footage truly speaks for itself. On another note, shouldn't we really be protecting our night shift workers from Karens like this by at the very least giving them more direct access to security? It's often said that you shouldn't meddle with things you don't understand and, by extension, you shouldn't mess with the people who handle the things that you don't understand either. If you've managed to get a contractor in to handle something you can't or aren't willing to do or understand, and they deliver on that product, you'd do your best to pay them the agreed price. After all, we've already established you don't understand that thing, so why are you so certain you've got the upper hand here? That thinking is the kind of thinking that lands you with 33% of a website.

Still, short-sighted business owners like this only have one thing in mind: profit. They're basically just a real-life Mr. Krabs, always chasing that short-term dollar bill with complete negligence, blind to the consequences of their own actions. 

This owner didn't manage to get one over on this contractor, who had ensured that final steps were required before their payment, getting a big payout over a longer period.

However, what their viewers don't see is the behind-the-scenes action. Just how far would an influencer go to get the perfect picture? We don't even want to know! But these sisters are totally butting heads over one sibling's insistence on photographing everything like the burgeoning star she wants to be. 

The OP's sister was invited to the OP's engagement party, and the OP was so worried about her sister's behavior that she talked to her about it before the event. Even so, the OP's sister still couldn't help it. She pulled her phone out during the event to snap tons of photos of the food. The OP ignored this for a while, but then her sister took it way too far, and even the wait staff knew to intervene!
