This exciting thread was posted this week to the r/DontWorkHereLady subreddit by user u/alannahmyles. A subreddit where people post stories where they, or others, are mistaken for a store's workers. The stories usually feature some insane individual (usually a Karen) who refuses to accept that the storyteller is not an employee.

We've seen some pretty bizarre situations in this subreddit where people have demanded service from random strangers. You can see how some of these mistakes might be made when people are wearing similar colored clothing to the workers of the store, but demanding service from a freshly burned-out building is downright insane.

School Locker Thief Gets the Book Thrown at Him in Savage Revenge Story

This trending Reddit post details a story of brutal revenge on a high school locker thief in the early 2000s. It has sparked discussions surrounding locker theft, and commenters have shared their own various stories. 

Reddit user u/Dunnachius shared this story to the r/ProRevenge subreddit. A place where users go to share stories, such as this one, where someone got even in a big way. Tales from the subreddit are easily identified by the purple 'smiling face with horns' emoji that the sub uses as its icon.

u/Dunnachius describes the situation as it occurred at the time. When they became the target of a recurring locker thief during a crimewave at the school, their uncle Buddy, who was a detective, stepped in to get to the bottom of the case.

As a personal anecdote… In high school, I had my Nintendo DS stolen out of my PE locker by someone who I considered to be a friend. He was into drugs or something and was desperate for some cash. The weird thing was that he was from an extremely wealthy family and had no business stealing. I caught him red-handed when I responded to a suspicious Craigslist, and he responded with his email address. Dad took me over to his house and showed his father the emails, and the DS was promptly returned. I often wonder who else he was stealing from and know that we probably should have reported the incident to the school or police. But he was someone I had considered a friend, and, despite his actions, that seemed like an extreme measure.

A leaked email has shocked the internet today after going viral. It was posted to the Reddit r/antiwork subreddit earlier this morning, where it has earned 68k upvotes in 12 hours. An absolutely insane number of votes even for the standards of more popular subreddits. 

Guy Who Was Fired Reports Company For Breaches, Company Shook in this Viral Thread

This unappreciated worker was managing the company's entire marketing and graphic design department on their own without a hint of guidance. Despite that, they were let go in favor of a foreign marketing agency. 

This thread went viral today when posted to Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit. The poster, u/TheNBAonTNT, describes the situation as it unfolded.

I had been handling the marketing and graphic design at a company for over a year with basically no budget, no help, and no structure." Reported u/TheNBAonTNT, "Even through all that I stayed; I got results, I maintained said results, I gave them everything."

After their termination, they decided that their best approach was to file grievances for the employer's breaches of employment rights. "I'm now taking them to court in my country's labor board/court," said u/TheNBAonTNT. "I'm not negotiating; I'll make damn sure that the court knows how it is that they avoid taxes by not covering the employee's lawful benefits and how they run the day-by-day operations."

If you insist on being a terrible employer, it's probably wisest not to do this to your employees, who are most likely to be privy to your illegal activities. It's that adage about not breaking two laws simultaneously because you exponentially increase your chance of getting caught. Fortunately, criminals and terrible employers alike are usually too stupid to rationalize this.

Spelling is hard, and it takes years to learn how to do. When you consider the phrase "spelling at a 5th grade level" you're still talking about a level of skill that requires literal years of experience reading and writing. Keep in mind, it's still not good to be an adult who reads at a 5th grade level, but it's just something to think about. Maybe at like a 10th grade level.

The other issue we run into is that most of our correspondences in life are spoken, not written. It's unlikely that the elevator isn't working because someone can't stop pooping, but we don't exactly want to risk it by checking.

Worker Gets Aggressive Call From Employer Asking to Verify Emergency Callout Contact Details, Hasn't Worked There For 8 Years

There's nothing better than receiving an unwarranted phone call from an employer, better still when you haven't worked for that employer for eight years. 

Redditor u/AcrolloPeed had this exact experience and shared the story this week to Reddit's r/IDontWorkHereLady subreddit. Perhaps this one is a little less obvious than subreddit names usually are but, essentially, the premise of the subreddit is that people post stories about cases of mistaken identity when people think that someone works somewhere when they don't. 

It's still pretty easy to decipher when comparing to something like r/worldpolitics. I'll give you a guess; what do you think you'd find in that subreddit if you typed it into Reddit? Don't actually do this because it's incredibly NSFW. For in r/worldpolitics, you can find a little bit of everything except the subject matter of World Politics. When you click through to the subreddit, you're immediately greeted with a large set of anime assets in the subreddit's banner, complete with the "Os" in World and Politics being replaced with a suiting piece of those assets' anatomy. There's a complex history behind this bizarre subreddit; maybe we'll cover that in a later article. 

Digressing back to the point, this sub's name is a little less obvious than the ones we usually cover but still more apparent than some.

u/AcrolloPeed handled this situation with ease and grace, tactfully deflecting the caller's inquiry for their information. Commenters were quick to support how they reacted.

It's generally accepted that when someone rejects you, cruelly or not, that the best thing to do is forget about them. Build your own life and live it honey, you don't need to brood over lost love and unreciprocated feelings. Many moments of this monotony tick by before the tides turn and the rush comes. One moment you're folding a shirt for the 10,000th time. The next, you're wiping flecks of spit off your face as they fly from the furious mouth of a deranged customer. Screaming, eyes bulging, that vein in their neck pulsating. One too many things might have gone wrong in their personal life this week, but you, the lowly retail worker, had the audacity not to meet their inane, impossible demand. They're an animal, caged in their miserable existence, but they're taking their wild fury out on you.

Redditor u/komputerrkrewwz claims to have lived this dream of fleeing from retail hell and has posted this topic to the r/antiwork subreddit titled "Just Ran Away from Work." They clarified in the comment section that they work retail and have a "boomer" boss who they can't stand. 

In the initial posting, 'komputerkrewwz' clarifies that "I told my boss I'm going for lunch, but I'm not coming back." suggesting that they would leave their manager eternally wondering what the heck happened to them. 

Commenters resoundingly applauded the poster's actions. This is r/antiwork, after all. Commenters suggested various plots to elaborate the ruse further. These included fake kidnappings and telling the boss that they had "Just gone to lunch."

"This is the part where you hire two actors from Craigslist or somewhere to dress up like scary g men and show up at your old workplace asking for you. Make that boss question what happened to their dying day," suggested GabrielofNottingham.

A surprisingly high number of responses shared stories of workers doing similar things when they couldn't handle the bullshit anymore. 

"I once quit my job at McDonald's by jumping out the drive-through window. True story." fallingfrog commented. 

"Before I got hired in at my current job, one of the guys also left for lunch and never came back. The guys who were there when it happened still sometimes joke that "He's still on lunch." shared ReaGeous.

In today's day and age, when relationships are seen more as being cooperative partnerships rather than an employer/employee dynamic, there are fewer and fewer times when it seems reasonable for one person to do absolutely everything for someone else. This guy didn't seem to get that his inability to do anything around the house was burning out his wife. When a new guest in the form of OP arrived to see this dynamic in action, he took it upon himself to communicate that to his brother-in-law. It's not like this guy even had to cook his own dinner. He decided to throw a tantrum over not having it brought to him. What's this guy's deal? Maybe it'd be reasonable if he was exhausted from working 16 hour days in a steel mill, but that's pretty unlikely.

The internet weighed in on the stunt, and had some mixed opinions. Some felt that it's a pretty risky thing to do when you're staying at the dude's house, but most agreed that the act was warranted. Given the support of the sister, at least the gesture was appreciated.

Tumblr Thread Explains Why Measuring In Feet Can Actually Make Sense

With the exception of the US, Liberia, and Myanmar, pretty much everyone uses the metric system. It's a pretty constant sticking point, and a really convenient way to call Americans lazy and stupid, as if the world needed any more examples. But while we're grasping at straws for reasons to keep using cups and feet other than "cause it feels nice," this Tumblr user provided an alright reason for why the Imperial system/customary system made sense at all in the first place. The thinking here is that counting things in 12 is more highly divisible than 10, and if you're an illiterate medieval peasant who needs to do quick mental math, measuring things with a system that makes fractions easy is a better tool than a more precise, but also more rigid system like metric.

Maybe that's precisely why it's so difficult for us to get away from customary units? We just keep wanting to divide things into thirds and it freaks us out. This still doesn't cover the fact that none of us are medieval peasants trying to do masonry or bake pies in a world without widely available and precise scales. But it's at least a perspective that customary units may have at one point made some sense.

Dumb, Absurd and Just Wild Reasons People Got Fired From Their Job

There are a great many reasons one might find themselves no longer working for a particular organization. Some of those reasons, like threatening a customer, making a pass at the boss's wife, or simply not doing your job are pretty inarguable grounds for termination. It's important to understand when you might share some of the responsibility for your own misfortune, and acknowledging that "yeah, maybe taking my daily nap on my desk wasn't exactly terrific for optics" is part of healthy personal growth.

But people also get fired for terrifically stupid reasons, like when an incompetent manager is just trying to scare everyone else, or if the company is just trying to save money by liquidating their most trusted, committed and productive employees. So in a world where people can be fired for incompetence that is not their own, it gives employment as a whole a terrific level of uncertainty that can make you want to shake your head and go get another cup of coffee.

An account name such as this is an indicator of a "Throwaway" account, which will sometimes be less obvious and use a string of numbers or words. In each case, a 'Throwaway" is a, usually brand new, account used to make or interact with a particular topic. The idea is to preserve the anonymity of your "Main Account" and keep people who were privy to the event in real life from recognizing the event and linking your identity to your main account. After all, sometimes, your online identity can compromise your day job. Specific stories about people being compromised and connected to their "Solitary Enthusiast" accounts come to mind.  

It's hard to fault the husband's actions here. His sister's "prank" crossed too many lines to count. She violated her brother and his wife's trust and made a mockery of their hospitality. She showed her true nature with these actions and the couple will be better off without her, and anyone who enables her, in their lives.

Safety Failures That Are Big Oopsies Waiting To Happen

Every once in a while, we have a close call. Maybe you're using a reciprocating saw without eye protection. The tip hits a nail and breaks off, flying into a tree about a foot from your head. This is what's called "a growth opportunity." It makes you realize, if you're not dumb, that putting yourself in harm's way for no other reason than convenience isn't exactly a good idea. And then you remember that your safety goggles are in a box underneath a bunch of boxes of tools and crap, so maybe this time you'll let things slide, but definitely next time you'll remember to wear those glasses before using power tools. It's a thought.

After being stiffed by said client, this topic was posted to r/pettyrevenge by u/BigPower6749. The post is currently sitting at 10k upvotes. They explained how they exacted their revenge in the post, "Her ads are still running, so I decided to change it. I changed the pictures to a text post [that] says 'Don't buy from this. The owner refused to give me my salary.'"

We see online topics about artists and creative workers not being paid for their work or being targeted by "choosing beggars." These stories always end up with the artist not being paid and losing out and seldom do they get any repentance from their terrible clients. So it's always great to see an artist getting the upper hand.

Guy Accused of Wage Theft When He Clocks in For Meetings

This employee was accused of committing wage theft when they clocked in for "hour-long" meetings. As commenters have noted, there is wage theft happening here, but the boss is confused about who is the one doing the thieving. 

This thread was trending after it was posted to the r/antiwork subreddit this week and has earned 10k upvotes. The poster, Reddit user u/DannoWhamo, was the one who posted the topic regarding this experience that they had at work. They noted that they were "Tired of spending my days off glued to my phone and laptop," and so decided to start logging the hours. 

It might sound insane to some of us that this wasn't something that was automatically happening. Any good manager knows that prepping, planning, and communication are essential parts of running an organization and are, therefore, part of the job by default. If you want to get buy-in from your team, you should pay employees for any time they spend performing their role. That's just good business sense, and before you even consider the ethics and legalities involved.

Woman Can't Handle Fiancé's Giant Python and Unleashes It Upon the World, Gets Sent Packing

Trouble has emerged between this Reddit user and his fiancée following a disagreement the couple had over his penchant for creepy crawlies. 

User u/Warm-Art-378 posted this story to the r/AmItheAsshole subreddit asking for advice from users regarding the disagreement. He was wondering if he was in the wrong for his reaction to the incident. Essentially, what had happened was his fiancée had taken issue with a ball python that u/Warm-Art-378 had acquired shortly before she was due to move in with him. He had to slowly acclimate her to the snake but noted that by the time she had warmed up to it she had thought it was "really cool."

Apparently, this wasn't actually so, because when u/Warm-Art-378 arrived back from an out-of-town work trip he arrived home to find the snake missing. Inquiry revealed that his fiancée had betrayed his trust and let it loose outside. 

The betrayal of trust is a major issue here, but even larger still is the effect on the ecosystem that the release of pets into a foreign environment can have. This is, after all, how the Burmese Python ended up establishing itself in Florida. There have been other notable introductions of invasive species to ecosystems in this exact manner.

It is also incredibly cruel to the animal itself and that alone is cause to send her packing. Do you really want to have someone in your life who is capable of hurting a living creature?

In Defeat at the Deceit, Daughter Watches Dead-Beat Friend Eat Mom's Elite Sweet Birthday Treat

The damning evidence in this deceit is quite concrete. It is incontrovertible. There is no neat for the jury to retire. In all my years of judging, I have never heard before of someone more deserving of the full penalty of law. 

With food available in such an abundance these days, it's hard to rationalize how this could happen. I could order McDonald's on Uber Eats right now, and it would be here in 5 minutes if I couldn't be assed to consider or prepare any other options. And with Uber Eats available in 6,000 cities and 45 countries, I find it pretty hard to believe this wasn't an option in most major populaces in the western world. This isn't an ad for Uber Eats, so please, god, don't flame me for that in the comments. I'm just in dire need of something to eat. Good thing I have all these baked goods my friend made for her mother's birthday here and ready to go.

Asides aside, this thread was posted to the r/AmItheA**hole subreddit this week by Redditor u/BigPower6749, where it has received 10k upvotes. Commenters are horrified at the friend's audacity and utter incompetence; how could they have thought eating all of those treats was ok?

Despite the fact that it's fine to have a knee brace, officials knew about it, and kicks to the knee are illegal anyway, this mom wasn't having it. Apparently she was under the assumption that it was protection against a competitor stomping the everloving meniscus out of her knee, which is again, illegal, and not that it's being used so this competitor can actually stand. Thanks lady, for making everything more complicated for no reason.

Searching for romantic interest is thrilling, nerve racking, and often confusing. We all want to know if we're being received well, and that our intentions are being reciprocated, because who the hell wants to be involved with someone who doesn't like you back? The annoying thing is that "just asking someone if they like you" can be a socially risky thing to do, and most of us feel like that puts us in a vulnerable position. There is no sure-fire way to gauge anyone else's interest perfectly. And even if someone gives you a lot of attention one day doesn't mean that they're gonna be just as interested the next. Maybe they had a nice dream about you are they like your shirt.

Nature is a strange thing. Once you think you've seen everything, you come across a big long line of caterpillars that are queued up like they're waiting for the next iPhone. There's something about organized bugs that make them seem a little more human. Or maybe this is distinctly inhuman, you know, since this whole endeavor is a little too well organized and none of them are cutting in line.

Processionary caterpillars are the larval stage of a kind of moth. They also have little hairs that can be harmful especially when swallowed, so  when it comes to pets they can cause more harm than good. And depending on where you live, this might seem like a bit of an everyday thing. So, you know, you might very well hate these things. But hey man, they line up real nice.
