This spa owner clearly doesn't know what the labor board is capable of. This post was shared via this thread on Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit by u/Bangarangdarling.
First, the owner's establishment was in a state of complete disrepair and she did pretty much nothing. Next, she sent an email detailing how all her massage therapists were now required to bring in $1,200 a week plus be available from 9-5 in case any walk-ins happen, or else the spa will have to close by the end of the year. Her employees only get paid for appointments so they would not be compensated for the time waiting around and would have to quit their second jobs if they were to accept this ridiculous ultimatum. Naturally, this Redditor quit and asked to schedule a time to pick up her final check as soon as possible.
That's when the spa owner contacted the Redditor to schedule an "exit interview" before giving her any final check (keep in mind that exit interviews are usually for full-time salaried employees, not independent contractors). She also had her intimidating husband step in and aggressively attack the Redditor over the phone.
Our takeaway here is that if someone's last resort is to have their spouse step in as a scare tactic, they shouldn't be allowed to run a business. Furthermore, the fact that this woman sent these new work requirements over email and actively avoided having to confront her employees in person only further proves our point here. And the point is that she sucks. Her husband does too. Contact the labor board, girl!
