She had, before the lecture, let the presenter know that she was going to be keeping her camera off to keep her sick baby fed when she needed to be. Despite this, the lecturer called her out and told her that she needed to have her camera on "So that he knew [she] was paying attention."
This thread was posted to Reddit's r/maliciouscompliance subreddit by Redditor u/bittyboo242, a new mother who recently graduated from Law School. She shared her story to the popular subreddit with the title, "Sure, I'll turn my webcam on." as a nod to her actions of malicious compliance.
