Employee Gets Suspended For Taking Time Off To Put His Dog Down, Never Goes Back

It's not uncommon that we have to make choices between being at work and living our actual lives. But often times, managers don't seem to understand that anyone's social or emotional life outside of work means anything at all. The long answer is that certain jobs press every employee into a high pressure system that rewards middle management for using any means necessary to keep employees working, no matter what's going on in their personal lives. But the short answer is that this manager is a dick.

OP made the decision to be with their dog on her final day, much to the chagrin of their boss, who felt like that kind of decision doesn't show loyalty to the employer. But seriously, what kind of loyalty can one expect to have to a place that pays them minimum wage in exchange for the opportunity to get punished for caring about their dog.

For another manager who didn't get that people have meaningful lives, here's a firefighter who called into a mandatory off-hours meeting during an active fire to make a point.
