Imagine having such a delicate ego that you need to exercise your power needlessly over your subordinates in order to maintain some semblance of authority. If you have that picture in your head then you know exactly what this employee was dealing with when they were reprimanded by their boss for working too hard and told to take "time management classes."
This thread was posted to r/MaliciousCompliance by the employee, Redditor u/asianclooney. They posted their story to the popular subreddit because the story concludes with their "malicious compliance" of "thinking about it" and deciding to quit on the spot. Maybe not the greatest example of malicious compliance but the story itself was solid so we felt it worth sharing.
Sometimes, someone just has it out for you for some reason… and there isn't much you can do about it. Realizing that not everyone you meet is going to like you is a tough but important pill to swallow. The sooner you learn to accept that the less energy, stress, and time you'll spend trying to win that person over and you will be able to move on with your life. It's a little harder to do this when that person is your boss… But the same principle applies, pack up, find a new job, and make your life easier for yourself. Exactly as this employee has done.
