The support of your parents can be extremely determinant of your own success—the trade-off being that their support in raising you out of diapers will be repaid when they return to them. It's a fair trade—when the parents uphold their end of the deal and aren't depraved and selfish narcissists—or otherwise toxic and destructive to be around. Now, we're all complicated people, and none of us are without our flaws, but some people are better off far away… and out of your life.

Take this delightful individual who turned the generous act of receiving a car to borrow from her child into a way of shaming them for their job, wealth, and current place in life; responding to their request to temporarily take their car back with hateful and vile language intending to browbeat them into leaving the car in her care. 

The irony of this entire situation is not to be ignored. How fitting for someone who is borrowing someone else's car to insist they get a better job so that they can afford to take an Uber while that same car is being borrowed.

As he explained, he went on a first date with a woman, and it seemed to be going well. But after the date — and spending the night at her place — he realized that she had spilled a little too much information about him. She had researched him beforehand, and just rattled off all this personal information. At the time, the OP thought it was really weird, and asked the Reddit community if she was justified in researching him beforehand.

In the comments, the OP did add that what his date found was uncovered from publicly available information, like social media. The things she knew about him, like previous states he'd lived in, could be found that way, but she went even further and dug up information about his whole extended family.

In today's day and age, you have to do your research before you meet IRL. But there's no need to just lay all that information out on the table from date number one! Just make sure you aren't dating someone with a troubling history.

Some people think there are only two types of people on the world: Scammers and suckers. The scammers do the scamming and take advantage of everybody and anybody, that especially includes your elderly grandma who is just trying to buy a car. However, that is a horrible way to look at like and if you do that, you are going to get some instant karma in some way—perhaps in some ultimate epic petty revenge. 

A Redditor recently shared a story of their elderly grandma getting scammed and then his uncle serving some epic justice in the form of petty revenge. The Redditor's grandfather had just passed and his grandma was looking for a new car. Being old and innocent, she went and bought a car from a backyard shady dealership. After only a few days, the car's engine blew up and it was un-driveable. The scammer did nothing to help and told them that when you buy a used car "not every purchase is a winner, it's just the luck of the draw." He's not wrong, but when the same thing happened to a second elderly woman from the same dealership, this Redditor's uncle had enough.

The uncle got a cheap car, sold it back to the dealership, but not before he completely emptied It of any fluids and completely clogged the radiator. When the dealer tried to call him out on selling him a lemon car, the man simple said, "that's just the luck of the draw."

One high schooler asked r/AITA a question about her job conduct: was she in the wrong for playing a 'mean prank' on a customer who berated her? Often on the r/AITA page, there's a swift conclusion of who was the a****** and who wasn't. But this time, there's an interesting nuance in the answers, with some commenters blaming the OP for her shortsighted approach to customer service. Others, of course, immediately sided with the OP, calling the customer the jerk in this scenario. 

I'm surprised that the OP and her coworkers were able to pull this prank off. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing you could just go around and do all the time, especially since one of her coworkers is the owner's son! I'd probably be driven away from the establishment if I witnessed this prank go down. I wouldn't want to support an establishment whose managers treat their staff that way. After all, the other customers don't know this is a prank.

The OP included a photo to prove just how unhinged this half-sister's idea really was. If you know the first thing about weddings in many countries, it's so simple — don't wear a dress that's fancier than the bride's! Some people just can't help it. They need to be the center of attention at all times.

Lady, if you're going to be this difficult, get a nanny! This entitled Karen Mom decided it was within her right to complain to the daycare staff about not adhering to her child's personalized sleep schedule. She shared her story via this thread on Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit.

 

The complete lack of self-awareness within this post is astonishing. Did she seriously think that the daycare staff would alter their entire schedule to this one particular child's needs? Furthermore, these people are professionals and are handling the nearly impossible task of taking care of so many children at once. But above all, the main takeaway from this story is that if you're going to be so entitled, insistent, and difficult, you might as well just save the money to get your own personal nanny for your kid. Now, I would never want to be that nanny, but that's a whole other story.

Committing to a 6+ hour commute to work every day is a superpower that most of us cannot claim to have. I certainly wouldn't be willing to do that under any circumstance. This Redditer told his impressive tale of malicious compliance, where he beat the system that was designed to fail, after asking his company to reimburse his travel costs. 

At the time he was living in San Diego, working in Downtown Los Angeles (that's a 175-mile per day commute). He was in the middle of studying for an exam that would allow him to become a licensed Journeyman Electrician and chose to ride the train to gain some study time, instead of driving his car in the difficult LA traffic. 

He rode a train and a subway to work every day for three entire months. To say he has some incredible tenacity is putting it lightly. This would have cost the company only about $17, had they been willing to be reasonable. But they decided that they were only willing to pay for gas and parking ($50) — if you're raising your eyebrows, join the club. We're all confused.

McDonald's Accidentally Hands Guy $5,000 Instead of His Food Order, Valiantly Returns It, Goes Insanely Viral and Doesn't Know What to Do

This man was thrust into major local popularity and he has no idea what to do with it, and that is somehow making him even more popular! 

Josiah Vargas recently went insanely viral overnight after posting a TikTok video of a McDonald's incident where he ended up being the hero. Some employee, who must haven been overworked, exhausted, or something, handed Vargas a McDonald's bag, thinking it was his drive-thru order. However, after he drove away and looked inside the bag, he found wads and wads of cash. It turns out they accidentally handed him $5,000 of their deposit money. Vargas, being a good samaritan, returned the money and the employees of the McDonald's were so relieved and grateful they were crying and hugging him. They also gave him $200 and a free month of McDonald's.

He didn't care about any of that, but it didn't matter, because after he posted that video he instantly blew up. He went viral on the app and has no been interviewed on local news outlets, radio stations, and more. He has no idea how to handle the overnight fame, but says he is getting help from his Gen Z sister. Apparently, it was her idea in the first place for him to make a video of him returning the money. Now, her is simply trying to figure out how to be his awkward self while also using his new fame to it's advantage. His awkward videos are so true to himself, it's actually working and making him even more popular.

'We got a pre-paid debit card with my dog's name on it': Puzzling mystery ensues after woman keeps getting mail addressed to her dog Skipper

It all started a month after a couple moved into a new home with their dog. They had hardly been in their new place for more than a month when they started getting mail that was not addressed to them. Usually, people will get mail from the previous tenants or something like that. But this couple was getting mail addressed to their dog. 

At first it was funny, the dog's first piece of mail was a Jiffy packet of recipes. It was addressed to their dog's first name Skipper and one of the couple's last name. They asked all their friends and family if they had done this, but they were all just as confused. They checked all of their accounts to see if maybe they put their dog's name down for something and forgot, but they hadn't. Even their dog-related accounts, like the vet's office or their Chewy account was not under their dog's name. 

It got even more confusing after receiving two at-home Covid tests in the mail addressed to Skipper and then a pre-paid Western Union debit card with Skipper's name on it. That is when they took to TikTok to see if anybody else has experienced this. What should they do? They called Western Union and they just said someone must have sent it to them in their dog's name and that's that. So now they have all this free stuff… Well, technically their dog does.

Your daily reminder that HOAs are the worst! This thread, which was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit, is just further proof of this well-known fact. In this instance, the Redditor had been living with their aunt, the owner of the apartment, when she died. The Redditor was then led to believe by the HOA that they were responsible for paying off her debt.

 

First of all, the Redditor was not her next of kin, but that didn't matter for the HOA, which tried to trick the Redditor by making them the primary tenant after the aunt's death so that they could settle the issue. Well, when the Redditor crunched the numbers, they realized that they actually overpaid their portion of the rent and that the HOA owed them a significant amount of money. Thankfully, they stood up for themselves and traded strongly-worded emails until finally, they were able to get someone on the phone and prove them wrong. Be careful what you wish for! If what you desire is urgent medical assistance (for a non-urgent injury) from someone who isn't qualified or even capable of providing that assistance.

The real truth of the matter is that this family felt entitled to receive attention from this customer service representative simply because they were a customer service representative — and that's what they're there for, right? To justify your need to feel important.  

I don't know if I can really stand by this college's employee policy of not intervening and providing assistance in any medical emergencies — that's why good samaritan laws exist. You should do whatever you can to help or save someone who is having a medical event; instating policies that demand otherwise is just evidence of the kind of antisocial and negligent hellscape that modern corporatism has thrust upon us. This feels especially relevant here since an allergic reaction to a bee sting can be life-threatening if it causes anaphylaxis. 

In this case, though, the sting was very non-threatening, and this family just wanted—no— demanded attention. In the end, they got their comeuppance in the form of exactly what they requested… The monkey's paw curls.

Update: Horrible Parents Don’t Tell Daughter About Her Education Fund, She Finds Out in the Worst Way

These parents are living proof that having a PhD and a Master's does not necessarily make you smart! This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/JacquesBN, who shared his story about the education funds his own parents set up for his kids. 

 

The Redditor and his wife had hoped that both their son and their daughter would get advanced degrees, so they didn't tell either child about the money. Their daughter pursued humanities in college and scraped by on scholarship money and on her own. Meanwhile, their son pursued STEM and, when it became clear to his parents that he wasn't going to pursue graduate school, they decided to use his education fund on a nice apartment for him during his undergraduate education. Of course, it was only a matter of time before their daughter was going to find out about this completely biased, totally unfair nonsense. And when she did, it wasn't pretty. Maybe if Karen reads this story now, she'll finally understand how badly she botched the math in this equation. 

As the OP tells it, this Karen went on vacation and ran up a lot of money in roaming fees. Say you're on a tropical island and you check Facebook – now, you have to pay for the data that you used outside of your home country. It's probably just a few dollars. However, Karen here went to an island and had a scrolling marathon, racking up five figures in roaming fees! Yikes! What what she thinking?

However, Karen was lucky to get to OP on the line. They work for a major cell service provider, and they were really trying to help this woman reduce her massive bill and shrink it to a fraction of the size. It seems like a common theme for new supervisors to enter the workplace with a big bang, having the desire to prove themselves, leading to a quick and sudden change in the status quo. Oftentimes, this isn't necessarily a good thing. Some are as quick to go as they are to come, and this is exactly what happened in this particular case. A foreman joined a company and naively thought he could mess around with one of their oldest employees (a machinist) when giving him demerit points for being ten minutes late (during a snowstorm no less). The foreman had previously tried to get him to do other tasks, and had apparently taken offense when the machinist gave him a firm 'No'.

What the foreman failed to recognize, was that this employee was actually the top and only machinist, who worked a lot of overtime even though it wasn't specifically written in his contract — which he promptly stopped doing when given the points. Chaos ensued along with malicious compliance, as the company began losing big bucks in a short amount of time.

This Karen, a frequent theatergoer, was upset to learn that her front row seat required her to bend her neck upward in an uncomfortable way. So, when she approached the usher to complain and remind them that she pays a fortune for these tickets (*eye roll*), the usher looked at the tickets and discovered that she was mistaken. Her seats were actually four rows further back. You would think that this would be a sort of win-win scenario for Karen. She still gets a great seat and she doesn't have to bend her neck. Well, it wasn't enough for her because four rows back meant that she was no longer in the front row. Seriously? You can't have your cake and eat it too, lady!

They shared their story to the popular subreddit to share their boss's hypocritical policy of both forbidding and expecting the workers to work overtime.   

Too many managers set expectations like this, setting the standard for the working relationship to work when it works for the company but not when it benefits the employee's interests. They'll stick to the "rules" hard and fast until it's convenient for them to suddenly ignore their existence.
