That would leave the OP to fill her shoes, which she was excited to hear. However, the title doesn't come without a few caveats. Though the supervisor left, the OP got radio silence from her bosses about taking over the vacant position.  The OP and her boss see the new job in two different ways, leading to a bit of conflict. In this case, OP was working as a barista at a coffee shop where they served such a Karen customer, who happened to be a regular. Karen was manageable up until a certain point when she unleashed all her inner emotional baggage onto a poor new employee who was simply doing their job.

The new employee in question had asked Karen for her ID, since the credit card said that on the back, in the signature panel. Karen reacted by flinging her credit card at the employee, which crossed more than a few boundaries. OP began a campaign that last six weeks, where Karen was continuously served decaf, as opposed to her regular coffee. The rest of the staff joined in, and soon enough, Karen was beginning to feel the effects, or rather the lack thereof, of the decaf coffee she was given.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/mildlyinfuriating subreddit by u/jeffyjeffs, who shared a text exchange with his manager after they left a rude voicemail asking why the employee didn't show up for work. 

 

It turns out there was a last-minute scheduling change that wasn't cleared with the employee. That would be problematic even if the change occurred during the employee's available hours. But this is even worse. The fact that his hours of availability weren't even considered at all when this change was made says everything about how much this manager values the employee's time.

'I was fired after this': Worker fired for missing work due to injury sustained from shoplifter

You might think that being injured while trying to defend your company's property would get you a warm thanks and a pat on the back, at the very least… and definitely not a swift kick out the door. But chasing down someone who has nothing to lose is dangerous and not a risk worth taking—and (hopefully) not a risk your employer wants to take liability for. For that reason, most businesses often have rules about not engaging with shoplifters, thieves, and other criminals—even for security guards, who often serve as little more than a deterrent. 

So, if you choose to intervene and get injured in the process, you may very well find yourself out of a job for breaking policy as the company seeks to distance itself from liability. 

Bizarrely enough, this worker reports that they were fired for being unable to perform their work duties due to the injury they sustained while intervening with a shoplifter—no mention of policy against intervention. This feels like it has to be a major misstep on the part of the district manager or GM, who was probably reactively trying to get rid of the person tied to multiple problems.

Ironically, OP later reveals in the comments section below that her uncle also had an affair, and the two ended up divorcing but to her knowledge, no one in the family knows about Ruby. Ruby is aware that her mother was married and, in fact, hadn't seen her since she was five years old. Now, OP is debating whether or not to spill the beans.

If you work in retail, customer service, or the service industry, sooner or later, you're going to run into a confoundingly indignant and angry individual who is going to ruin your day—leaving you thinking about this interaction for years to come. It's just a matter of sheer statistics; talk to enough people in a day, and sooner or later, at some point, you're going to have a grown adult having a full tantrum in the center of your store like it's some kind of performative art piece. 

This Karen took offense to the fact that her order wasn't explicitly as she had intended it to be but failed to see how her continued ineffective manner of communication (which caused the problem in the first place) was exacerbating the problem. 'I removed everything from my bag': Employee gets even with screening officer at company security checkpoint after being told twice to ‘empty’ his bag, rest of employees follow his lead

Oftentimes, in transportation facilities, there will be a legal requirement to go through a security checkpoint that inspects bags; employees will need to go through a metal detector. In order to do that, they will need to remove any electronics/wires from their bags. OP was a technician working for a company that required him to pass through such a checkpoint on a daily basis. He carried a laptop, hand tools, and network cables in his bag, and was told he could leave hand tools and such in his bag, but would need to remove the wires and electronics.

One day when going through his usual ritual, the employees working at the security checkpoint weren't paying attention when he was removing said items from his bag, leading to some confusion on their part. One employee, who we will call Karen, remembered she was actually on duty, and told OP that everything he had just put back in his bag had to come out again for inspection. He explained that he had already done what they'd asked of him, but Karen was adamant that he 'take everything out of the bag'.

OP told her that if she'd been paying attention, she'd know there was no need. Again, she demanded he empty the bag… so he did. Other employees in line saw what was happening and decided to follow suit. Soon enough, everyone was taking everything out of their bags, and Karen was bombarded with much more work than usual. Update: 'I'm not her butler, babysitter, or handyman. I'm her freaking brother': Family saga unravels on Reddit, brother stands strong on his position

Family trauma is a very real thing. You could have the most loving family in the world where you're all besties and STILL have family trauma. That's basically what the entire plot of Disney's Encanto is about. We all have our own inner demons and that just happen to surface around the people you feel most comfortable around—often times that is your family. However, it's 2023 and we are all open about working on our mental health and taking therapy seriously, but that also includes working on the mental health between you and your family—maybe even doing family therapy together. 

Recently, a family saga has been unraveling on Reddit. It started with this post of a brother asking if he was in the wrong for booking a separate room during the family vacation, because last time he was forced to be the babysitter for his older sister's triplets. Now, he may be the youngest sibling, but he is a grown adult man, so being forced to be his sister's butler for no pay is beyond insulting and hurtful. Plus, that is his vacation too and he'd like to actually do vacation stuff for it rather than be the family butler. 

The original post became a hit on Reddit and he was deemed "Not the A-Hole." In fact, many Redditors shine light on how awful his sister is treating him and how unsupportive his parents are. His family knows about his Reddit account and saw the post and the comments it gathered. Luckily, it made them see the light, for the most part. He followed up the post with another one saying his parents apologized, but his sister did not, "at least not at first." You can see that post here. Things certainly aren't how they used to be… While that common cliché has been repeated for generations now, possibly since the beginning of human existence, when it comes to the housing market, it's pretty clear that things aren't how they used to be. Gone are the days when a young couple could afford a four-bedroom home on one income while starting a family—raising and somehow funding an entire brood of children. 

The thing is, your older family, friends, and coworkers might not even realize how precarious things have become; in fact, they probably wouldn't even be able to fathom it without actually living it. Even those who got into the market before the pandemic are in better shape than those who seek to follow in their footsteps. 

I've never been one to think much about this. Still, eventually, you reach an age where you're tired of forcibly pouring gasoline and striking a match on a sizable amount of your income every month and finally are approaching a position where you can do something about it. Who wouldn't rather be paying off something that they may one day wholly own? (After you're done paying double in interest to the bank.) But, it's an uphill battle; housing prices continue to increase while wages stagnate, meaning you haven't a hope in heck of getting that sweet four-bedroom home your older coworker—which has also tripled in capital value over the last 20 years.
