'[You] accused them of stealing THEIR OWN PACKAGE': Neighbors squabble over cats, dogs, and stolen packages, then one neighbor involves police

Some neighbors will never see eye to eye. This woman told her story expecting people to take her side of the argument, but instead, commenters told her she was totally in the wrong.

As this woman explained in a post to r/AmItheA**hole, she and her next door neighbors have been "pretty much at odds since day one." She writes that they've had tons of disagreements over issues large and small. One of those is the OP's three cats, who are let into her backyard and then get chased around by the neighbor's dog. They also disagreed on fencing, which the neighbor asked the OP to help pay for, as well as taking down an old tree on both their properties.

However, the more the OP tells in the story, the more she sounds like the bad neighbor. Her go-to move is to call up the police for every little thing. After you check out this story, click here for a petty revenge story that was two years in the making.

20 Funny Mom Memes and Fails for Mother's Day

Don't forget to call your Mom this weekend! Because if you do forget, you can be assured that you'll never hear the end of it.

That's right. It's that time of the year for Mother's Day festivities. Whether or not you're doing a brunch or sending flowers or setting up an awkward FaceTime call this weekend, let's all take a moment to acknowledge the great things our mothers do for us from the late-night panic texts to the unhinged text messages about technology questions. However, we happily embrace this neurotic behavior because we know how hard our Moms have worked for our benefit.

Keep scrolling below for this compilation of memes, jokes, and fails in honor of Mother's Day! For more lists like this, take a look at these top choosing beggars of the week as well as these top five worst dates from the perspectives of the waiters who witnessed them.

'It's not like this impacted him in any way': Teen loses job after parent schedules non-negotiable vacation time for him

For some reason, this parent thinks that their son's first job isn't important at all. A first job is a big deal, though, and clearly this person's kid thought so too.

In a post to r/AmItheA**hole, a parent called u/Educational_Gur_2679 asked if they were really in the wrong for a situation with their kid and his job. Like many teens, this 16-year-old got a part-time lifeguarding gig. And additionally, he's located in Florida, so that's a job that will be available year round.

The teen asked for some time off to take a family vacation, but his boss denied it. The reasons don't seem personal, but he hadn't been there long enough to have earned time off yet. The OP took personal offense to that anyway. They insisted their son still go on the vacation, which left him fuming. Check out the story below to see whose side you're on… although commenters were clearly against the OP.

‘[She] prioritizes jealousy over what’s best for the kids’: Toxic mom gets chewed out online for her immature actions after divorce

Divorce is never easy, especially when children are involved. When it is just a break up, it is still one of the most stressful situations you will go through. But then add kids into the mix and your feelings are not the top priority in this stressful situation anymore, the kids' are. You might be losing a partner, but your children are losing their childhood wonderment of having that picturesque happy family. So it is very important to help the children out the best you can during the divorce.

That seems like pretty common knowledge though, right? Unfortunately, no. One toxic mother took to Reddit to try and get her entitlement and immature actions during the divorce and custody battle vindicated. However, Redditors were NOT having it. Not one person came to the toxic mother's aid, because she was clearly in the wrong. In fact, many were shocked at how she didn't see how immature she was being herself. Commenters made sure to thoroughly explain how she was being the a-hole in this situation and they actually side with the step-mom and now ex-husband in this situation. Read the story and see for yourself below.

'It smells like fish': 25 Restaurant red flags diners should watch out for

You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but these folks have some surefire ways to tell if a restaurant is quality or not.

I actually have a true story about this that you can totally judge me for. One time, I was in Harlem, volunteering to paint homes in an area I had never been before. I had to get lunch somewhere, so I stopped in a corner store and bought a BLT. I hung out in the store, and as the person behind the counter handed me the sandwich, I saw a cockroach crawling inside the glass container where the lunch meats were kept. My soul left my body momentarily (I'm very afraid of cockroaches).

Me and the cook made eye contact, but being socially awkward and conflict averse, I just paid for my sandwich and left. I debated whether I should eat this sandwich or not, but I figured New York has millions of roaches and rodents, both seen and unseen, and I was so hungry after painting walls for several hours. It was actually one of the best BLTs I've ever had. But I did eat it with the uneasy feeling that there were probably so many more roaches at that place that just hadn't made themselves known.

Anyway, you can totally judge a restaurant by lots of these standards below, but you really just have to try the food a few times to know if positives outweigh the negatives. And most of these are very helpful — in general, you really shouldn't eat anywhere that you can see bugs, or where the floor is dirty, or where the menus have stock photos instead of actual pictures of the meals.

Check out these restaurant red flags below, then check out this entitled parent who forgot to bring entertainment for her kid while on a flight.

'Hey, wanna destroy a party?..': Couple counters step-mother when she tries to hijack their baby shower

Aren't families wonderful? Having someone in your life who insists on making everything about themselves is challenging… to say the least. Hijacking events to suit her own preference is probably only the tip of a very large hidden iceberg when it comes to dealing with this stepmother.

This couple found themselves the target of the husband's evil stepmother after her efforts to claim a grandchild from her own children were thwarted. Her ambivalence and disinterest toward them and their pregnancy suddenly turned to overbearing obsession as she insisted on replanning their baby shower into a vision of her own, an aesthetic that her step-son describes as being "Barbie had puked all over Hello Kitty's birthday party."

When attempts to un-plan the replanning fell on deaf ears, the couple employed the help of their friends to retake their party back.

Read on for this tale of an exhaustingly entitled family member and how she was dealt with resoundingly. Next, check out this family photo refusal that caused a major breakdown at a family gathering.

'He knows how to play': Entitled parent begs random plane passenger to 'share' their video games

Maybe the in-flight movies aren't good enough for this woman and her son.

When traveling and preparing for a flight, there's a lot to remember: passport, luggage, wallet, keys, and more. But most people remember to bring something to keep them occupied during the flight, too, whether that's a book or a pair of earbuds to listen to music or a podcast, or to watch an in-flight movie. This wouldn't seem to require much planning ahead, and most flights will hand out earbuds in case you forgot your own.

That's why this woman's story is so incredibly baffling. She seemingly brought her young son on a short flight (under two hours long) and yet didn't bring anything to entertain him. Instead, she decided to bug a random stranger, insisting that her child be allowed to play video games. The audacity is stunning!

I definitely side with the OP here — as cute as kids are, they're so messy and are not at all careful with electronics. People in the comments echoed this as well — at least the OP managed to stand their ground. Then, check out these mildly infuriating moments, like the person who discovered squirrels were living in their car.

'After putting 2 fake positions on I finally started getting interviews': Woman explains how she broke into tech with a fake resume

It's a rough and tough world out there job searching. Even entry level jobs are requiring experience, which, like… Doesn't that defeat the purpose of it being an entry level job?? We constantly hear "this generation just doesn't want to work anymore!" But that is simply not true. People are constantly desperate for jobs, but companies are either not paying enough, asking too much of employee, or both. So what are you even supposed to do at this point? How in tarnation can you get the dream job you have been working so hard to get when they won't even give you a chance?

Well, we're not here to give you any advice, but one person on Reddit shared what they did to break into the tech industry and they have now been working there for over a year, so it work. What was it they did? They lied. Listen, listen, we're not encouraging lying, of course. We're just here to share the things we find interesting on the internet. We're just saying, this woman lied on her resume and it WORKED. She just added 2 or 3 fake past jobs to buff up her experience. They needed proof of these jobs, so l she made fake pay stubs and even created a website and email address. She was offered the job and she has now been there for over and year, and looking for her next leg up in the industry.

Again, we believing lying is bad, that being said… F*** the man, do what you gotta do to survive. Just don't be a jerk, be empathetic, and open minded, etc. etc. Anyways, read her whole story below!

Top 5 Worst First Dates as Told by the Waiters

Remember that your behavior on a first date is not just seen by the person with whom you are eating. Your server can definitely tell when it's a first date, and you better believe that they have attentive eyes and ears that can easily sense when something is off. So you better behave, unless you want to end up on an Ask Reddit thread like this one.

Some of these stories range from folks going to the bathroom and taking off (I thought that only happened in the movies!) to bad dates turning into a romantic opportunity for the server. Keep scrolling below for these five stories. For more compilations like this, check out these bizarre coworker tales.

'I don’t owe you an explanation': People with disabilities share their stories of Karen encounters

Karens are Karens to everybody, no one is safe. Unfortunately, if you have something that they don't understand, it makes you even more of a target to entitled Karens. So this is bad news for people with disabilities, especially people with a disability that isn't immediately visible. Karens aren't going to do any research on any disability and yet they will still act like they went to medical school.

A person who is legally blind took to Reddit as an outlet to share a frustrating story of a Karen encounter he had. He was waiting in line to get a coffee, when a Karen tried to take advantage of his blindness and cut in front of him. The thing is, he can partially see some things, and he for sure noticed this entitled person trying to cut in front of him. The audacity and rudeness of that is just insane. However, the Karen decided to take it even further and went to his table, sat right in front of him, and started asking him about his blindness, as if she were entitled to an explanation on why she got caught pulling an a-hole move.

The post seemed to be a pretty relatable story to people with disabilities and many took to the comment section to add their own Karen encounter story. Scroll on to read them below!

'They refused to believe I had left': Worker leaves their job of 10 years after getting passed up for promotion in favor of a person they trained

There's nothing better than loving your job—there's nothing harder than the dawning realization that you're going to have to leave.

We all get surprisingly comfortable with our routine—it's just something in our nature. Branching out into uncertainty feels risky, making us shudder at the thought of trying new things.

Companies—rather, the people who run them—are the same way, and for that reason, they will be more likely to leave you in your role if it means less change and less new uncertainty for them and the organization. So, it's not surprising, then, that if your employer refuses to promote you, sometimes you have to be the one to overcome the fear of change and seek it out yourself to progress.

That's what this worker shared doing on a recounting of events that they shared on Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit community. The worker shared that they had been passed up for promotion in favor of a newer employee that they had trained themselves, prompting their move.

Read on for their account of events. Next, check out this employer who threatened not to pay a teen when they quit their new job after spotting red flags.

'So many red flags': Boss insists salaried employee work on his house so that he 'doesn't have to pay'

This boss is really stretching the definition of what it means to be a salaried employee.

Salaried work can be wonderful or a strain on your work life, depending on the company you work for and your managers. For some workers, they're able to put in two hours of work per day and still get paid for the entire eight. But for the majority of salaried workers, it means you're going to work 40+ hours a week. If you have a project due at the end of the day, and you're not finished by 5PM, your boss is easily able to insist you finish it ASAP. It's one of those things that's supposed to be a perk, but ends up backfiring.

This guy's situation, though, is taking salaried expectations to the next level. This employee writes that they work for a low-voltage company, doing design, installation, and programming work. It's mainly working with CCTV or fiber optic… which is totally different from the side job the employee's boss is insisting they do.

'I sent all those [messages] to my boss': Worker makes it impossible for their avoidant boss to ignore their coworker's behavior

Dealing with conflict is never pleasant. That's why some of us choose to avoid it at all costs. We'd rather bury our heads in the sand than deal with an obvious glaring issue or unruly person.

This presents a problem when that conflict-adverse person is in charge of a team and will inevitably have to deal with conflict at some point. Unfortunately, sometimes they'd rather just let one of the team members go unchecked than deal with the issue, allowing and enabling their negative behavior towards other team members.

This team member had put up with enough and was, thankfully, provided with enough material by their disaster of a coworker in order to put it front and center for their conflict-adverse boss in a way that they couldn't ignore.

Read on for this tale of petty workplace revenge. After, check out this boss who pretended to fire a worker to make them regret their complaint.

'Maybe I was a bit too harsh': Wife makes inedible home cooked meal for husband's birthday, husband calls her out, regrets his decision

Sometimes honesty is not the best policy. In relationships, you have to humor one another, and if someone makes an effort to do something nice, that effort should be acknowledged and embraced. That being said, when it comes to your partner's cooking, it's considerably harder to be honest, especially if she is known to be a bad cook and especially if this is your birthday dinner.

That's exactly what happened to this couple. When the husband shared his side of the story via Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit, he was probably surprised to find that the responses from the ruthless judges of the AITA community were largely negative. However, there were a few folks in the comments who acknowledged that the wife made her husband's birthday entirely about her when she decided to "experiment" in the kitchen. Clearly, this was not the wisest decision. Keep scrolling below to see what people had to say! For more, check out this story about a neighbor's trashy revenge!

'Coworker talks to herself as well as inanimate objects': 10+ bizarre coworker stories

‘I need fuel and my car collected’: Customer demands petrol cashier retrieve car from down the road, tries to get cashier fired for refusing, gets banned by HR manager

Employees working minimum wage jobs are remarkably gifted at identifying customer Karens from a mile away; their posture, the way they present themselves, and the superior tone in their voice as they begin a sentence with an entitled demand. These customers don't go on hiatus, they do not take breaks in their dedicated work to ruin people's day. In this case, a Karen entered a petrol station, eyed the other customers in line, decided her request ranked worthiest, and passed them all, strutting right up to the cashier, demanding a 'fuel refill along with my car collected'.

It's not that Karen was unaware that she had come to the wrong place, but rather that any working human being with a name tag sewed or clipped into a half-formal-looking uniform top looked good enough to her. The cashier, OP, explained that the petrol station did not offer recovery services, nor was OP obligated to abandon her work, waddle down the road with a bucket of fuel and fill Karen's car.

Karen did not take kindly to being told that her request was not within OP's job description, created a scene, and told OP she would not be willing to pay for the fuel that OP wasn't even willing to fill her car with. The situation became so dramatic that other customers began to shoo her away. OP was certain they didn't hear the last of it, and they were right. Karen wrote a long, angry letter to HR, telling them to fire OP.

HR banned Karen instead. Scroll down to read the full, detailed account of events. For more, here is a clever manager who got back at a Karen customer for demanding he fires an employee for delivering the wrong item.

'She refused to pay, and stopped answering my calls': Web designer creates website, pivots to malicious compliance after entitled owner won't pay the bill

This website designer took malicious compliance to a new level with this stunt.

There's often a lack of appreciation for the arts, whether you're a painter, dancer, writer, or filmmaker. Even for this person, a web designer who created an entire website for a client, the task went unappreciated. As u/shady_emoji shared to r/MaliciousCompliance, they were a college student trying to make a few extra dollars when they accepted a gig designing a website. This client wanted her website to show off the "best interior design service in London." The OP created a nice site for her, but then she suddenly ghosted this person. So sketchy!

This is some of the finest malicious compliance we've seen for the sheer brilliance this person had in getting back at the client. Who knows how many sales she lost from the resulting malicious compliance? The OP will probably never know the full scale of the damage they did to this stingy client.

Next up, this influencer thought she was so clever, but the small business she stiffed disagrees with her.

Witty Work Memes for Weekday Soldiers With a Permanent Case of the Mondays (May 9, 2023)

They should have called it 'Cinco DON'T Mayo'– this weekend really fried your brain and body, so how are you supposed to tackle the mountain of work you procrastinated on from last week on top of this week's work load? Memes! Maybe they don't solve your problems at work, but finding the humor in the day can keep your wits about you even when Q2 targets are crumbling all around you. Work sucks regardless of what you do, but does your entire day have to be terrible? (Don't answer that).

For anyone suffering from a permanent case of the Mondays, it doesn't really matter what you do at work, it simply matters that you showed up at all. So if you clocked in today, give yourself a pat on the back and an extra 15 minute break as a reward. You've earned it. Want more memes to procrastinate with? Check out last week's batch of work memes to fuel your meme-diction.

'This makes zero sense': Woman's plane travel luggage hack baffles her family

I thought I'd heard every travel hack, until I read this one, that is. I can truly say I've never thought about treating my luggage the way this woman plans to.

Airports are quite strict with their luggage requirements. If you don't look it up before you go, you'll be stuck with a suitcase that's too big or too heavy, meaning you'll have to cough up some cash to fly your precious belongings along with you. And heaven forbid you have liquids that are more than 3.4 ounces, or have a carry on that can't fit under your seat!

People have been coming up with clever travel hacks for years. You can try wearing all or most of your clothes in order to save on luggage fees, and all you have to do is wear layers upon layers of clothing as you sweatily waddle through airport terminals. Or lately, people have been shoving pillows under their shirts to try and sneak those onto the plane…but some get caught, and then they're stuck paying for their extra luggage. What a headache. This woman's plan is well intended but just so baffling, so scroll down to make sure you don't do what she's got planned.

Next, check out a story about two neighbors who are feuding over their shared driveway.

'Oh we aren't signing it': Tenants undergo monthly apartment inspections, they move out without informing management

There's nothing like reading about apartment drama to make you feel better about your situation. We've all dealt with shady landlords at some point in our adult lives, but this couple definitely has earned my sympathy. Just because their landlords discovered that their other tenants were using their space for less-than-legal purposes, this Redditor had to suddenly undergo monthly inspections. On top of that, the landlord's wife forced them to make changes to their space after each inspection, mostly because she disagreed with their furniture choices.

Eventually, the Redditor and his now-wife were able to find a house to move into and because their lease renewal didn't mention anything about informing the landlords that they were moving out, they decided to prolong that announcement until the last possible moment. Keep scrolling below for the full play-by-play and to see what people had to say in the comment. For more, here are the top choosing beggars of the week!

'My neighbor parks in the middle of our double-driveway': Guy claims authorities 'won't come out' to solve issue with neighbor

There's no way this guy will let their neighbor get a free fence out of them. But apparently that won't stop her from trying!

In a popular post to r/mildlyinfuriating, one person shared their story of neighborhood troubles. The post really resonated, with more than 5,500 people chiming in with helpful suggestions.

The issue is that the OP, u/anselld, and their neighbor share the same driveway. OP included a lovely photograph, included below, to show the way the driveway leads up to their two homes. The neighbor really wants the OP to foot the bill for a brand new fence, right in the middle of the driveway. And to reinforce that, she's been parking right in the middle of their shared space.

Even worse, the OP claims that the Sheriff won't handle the situation. In the comments, people had plenty of useful advice that ensures the OP won't have to spend their money on a fence.

Next, this boss went through an employees belongings, so the employee asked how they could get some 'malicious compliance' style revenge.

'She wants to use you': Estranged uncle has no interest in meeting his sister's kids after being guilted into providing free childcare for weeks

Being estranged from a family member can be tough, but if they're the toxic, narcissist type, for some folks, being away from their family is actually a huge relief. Distancing yourself from that sort of dynamic is the best thing to do, but when rotten family members come out of the woodwork in order to get something from you, it smells like trouble from a mile away. In this case, one man who was alienated from his family gets roped back into the drama in the course of one phone call when his sister tries to schmooze her way back into his good graces using her own children as a weapon.

OP had created a healthy niche in his life after years of abuse from his small-town home. Hours away from anyone who may harass him, he'd grown accustomed to the twice-a-year group text from the family saying, "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Easter". However, his sister, who had stayed in town, went after him after decades of not speaking. Something reeks of ulterior motives here…

He wasn't invited to her wedding and had never met her husband or two small children, but all of the sudden, OP's sister was supremely interested in having a relationship with her big bro. The catch? She actually just wanted him to take care of her kiddos for a few weeks while she was on vacation. Yikes. Scroll for the full, detailed story of how this man stood his ground, protecting his niece and nephew from his bachelor pad and forcing his sister to take a hard look at their past.

'She was always late for work': Coworker achieves petty revenge two years in the making

There are two types of people: those who can be on time, and those who cannot ever manage to do so. It clearly caused some workplace friction in this story shared to r/pettyrevenge.

One employee had had enough of their coworker, "J," making everyone suffer the consequences of her actions. As the OP wrote, J had tons of bad habits, like not answering the radio as she disappeared for hours on end, and being so late that it impacted everyone else's shift. The OP even writes that she was over three hours late at times! It's no wonder this person was completely fed up with J.

Scroll down to check out this story, as well as the OP's interesting solution to their coworker's antics. And after that, check out this delivery driver who is desperately trying to get back a $70 tip from their manager.

'We won’t pick up your trash next week': Kevin goes on a power trip about trash rules, neighbor gets revenge by canceling their scheduled pickup

Now, this is the kind of trashy we can get behind! This Redditor was slightly delayed in taking out the trash but still managed to bring it out before the pickup. Sounds like a nice save, but their Kevin next-door neighbor noticed and went on a full power trip about the fact that OP didn't take out their trash before 7 am. I'm sorry, but was this bothering anyone? It's not like it made a mess, unlike Kevin's constantly overflowing trash.

Rather than dump Kevin's trash on his lawn as many of the folks in the comments section suggested, OP decided to get creative with their form of petty revenge. They called the trash pickup company, pretending to be Kevin, and requested to cancel his pickup for the next several weeks while claiming that they will be on vacation during this time. So for the next few weeks, Kevin's overflowing trash was left untouched by the pickup company. It doesn't get much pettier (or trashier) than that!

'I [had to] remind him that he confiscated [it]': Boss confiscates employee's phone, wonders why they're not answering it

Remember when your parents used to confiscate your cell phone for not answering it? Leaving you with no cell phone to answer their subsequent calls with. You might not have been able to text your friends either, but not being tied to a requirement of constant communication and surveillance was freeing.

It turns out that experience is not lost to the past, and you may be able to relive it (without clocking 88 miles an hour in a DeLorean.) All you need is a boss who is more concerned with maintaining their control than they are with logical reasoning and who is particularly attached to their ability to remain in constant communication with you.

When you inevitably have to miss a phone call, leading them to confiscate it as if you're a child, then the only thing to do is wait and see how long it takes them to notice the power they have just inadvertently relinquished.

Read on for this delightful tale of malicious compliance. Next, see this insurance worker who was told to just do their job and so approved as many claims as possible.

'[My] driveway is constantly blocked': Brooklyn resident infuriated by people parking in their driveway

New York parking is no joke. It's a battle at the best of times.

If driving stresses you out, don't ever drive in New York City! It's super stressful, and it's nearly impossible to ever find parking. Even in Brooklyn, where traffic tends to be lighter, parking problems still arise.

One Brooklyn resident shared that they live near the beach (Maybe Coney Island? It's a popular tourist spot, though the OP didn't specify). Random people will constantly park in the OP's driveway. It must be infuriating to deal with! So the OP went to r/Brooklyn to get some advice on how to deal with these randos stealing their precious space.

Commenters left suggestions, both ethical and less-than-ethical. The person who suggested putting lentils on the tires — just why? However, some suggestions were more constructive, like telling the OP to invest in a jersey barrier or become friendly with local organizations that might be able to help. Then, check out another story here.

'Not much sleep was had': Husband defends wife from rude passenger over airplane etiquette

No one ever agrees about this debate. Depending on where you're sitting on the plane, your point of view changes on this too!

The evergreen debate being had on r/AmItheA**hole is from a frustrated husband who recently flew with his wife. It seems like the trouble started right from the beginning of their flight. The dude behind the OP's wife was playing a game on the in-flight TV, meaning that he was jabbing at the back of her head! If that wasn't annoying enough, the OP's wife was really sleepy, and wanted to get some rest during the flight. So when she leaned her seat back, the game-playing guy behind her didn't take kindly to it.

The OP shared his story, and no one can agree who's right and wrong in this situation. It seems like the plane seat reclining is always an issue. If you're the one reclining, you're confident in your right to relax and be comfortable as you snooze, and the person behind you will just have to deal. But the second the person in front of you reclines, you're annoyed that you have someone's scalp three inches from your head. It's a no-win situation, truly.

'You amuse yourself in little petty ways': Underappreciated office manager sabotages photocopy machine with a paperclip

Who knew that paperclips had such power? This office manager decided they were sick of being underappreciated at work. They explained how their job basically included being receptionist, payroll, office manager, assistant, etc. all in one position. Not exactly sustainable and not exactly fair.

It turns out that their boss had an unruly habit of finding office issues for OP to handle, so OP developed ways to subtly get their revenge without any consequences. One way was to lower the length of their boss's office chair while they were out of the office getting lunch. The other way, however, is far more memorable. OP decided to photocopy a blank sheet of paper with a paperclip on it and hide the copies in the copier tray. That meant that whenever their boss used the photocopy machine, no matter what, there was a mysterious "ghost paperclip" on the copy. It turns out nothing was more infuriating for this ungrateful boss!

Guy leaves bike shop 1-star review for helping him for free

This is precisely the type of thing you encounter while working in a bike shop. Of all the customer service roles you could ever work, working in a bike shop will confront you with some uniquely bewilderingly entitled experiences. The idea of "you haven't done enough for me for free" will somehow recur time and time again as 1-star reviews bombard you for going out of your way to help someone who doesn't understand how much they don't understand about their bike.

Bonus points here for being blamed for something unrelated that has gone wrong with their bike that you never even touched.

For some reason, everyone expects you to do everything for them for free; this comes from the fact that you generally need to go above and beyond for people in ways you don't in other forms of retail to help them with things that are not obvious about their biking experience.

It comes with this age-old expectation people come in with that bike shops owe you everything. People are utterly incapable of thinking or doing anything for themselves as soon as they cross the threshold of a bike shop's doors. Simultaneously, bikes are still a machine—though a simple one, so there's a lot that can go wrong very quickly—and it's common for people to wildly overestimate their knowledge of them. Their "I know what I'm doing" attitude, particularly among those of a certain age, will backfire time and time again... Every bolt stripped on their frame, fork installed backward, or even just a "broken" drive train where each limit screw was turned in completely the wrong direction.

I could ramble endlessly about this one; this is just the tip of a continental iceberg. But go through the reviews of any bike shop, and you'll see what I mean. There's a reason why every grizzled bike shop veteran can't abide this behavior any longer… They've been burned by it one too many times.
