Typically, if someone breaks something of yours, you might expect them to be responsible for replacing it. But what if that thing wasn't exactly new? What if it was already broken in another way already? Should the person have to replace it with a new version of the already broken thing?

That's the question that came to the forefront of discussion sparked by this thread that was shared on Reddit's r/AmItheA**hole subreddit. The posting Redditor, u/Admirable-Cabinet-52, shared their experience to the popular subreddit to see if they were in the wrong for making a good samaritan pay for a new canopy for his pickup after they accidentally broke the window on it trying to help him close it.

Is this guy in the wrong for charging the kid for "breaking" a part of his vehicle? Should the kid not have touched the car—and is he automatically in the wrong for that? Either way, probably a good lesson for this young lad to not touch other people's things under any circumstances; you don't know what kind of a-holes might be out there looking to profit off of your attempt at a good deed. It's this same kind of thing that caused a lot of places to put protections in place to protect first-aid givers against lawsuits resulting from administering CPR.

'AITA for being Karen-ish with retail workers?': Customer flips out on retail workers after they ignore him for a half hour

After being ignored for over a half hour while shopping, this dude had a complete meltdown! 

While sharing his story to r/AmItheA**hole, this dude made sure to preface his story. He wrote that he's been around service workers his whole life, and worked service industry roles before, so he apparently knows what it's like to be in that line of work. However, he clearly forgot that when he went to a store and got ignored. 

The first red flag is that the OP thought he'd get great service inside a dead mall. He and his wife waited around in a  store without seeing a single employee. When they finally found a cashier, they said they'd send an employee over to help them find what they needed. But after another 25 minutes, there were still no employees around to help the OP and his wife.

Every so often on the Internet, you come across a crazy story and scroll through the comments, realizing that no one is acknowledging the behavior of the storyteller. That seems to be the case with this story, which was posted to Reddit's r/TrueOffMyChest subreddit. 

 

Here's the deal. We are sympathetic to the fact that the Redditor is lactose intolerant and has to buy different kinds of groceries, separate from her partner. We are also sympathetic to the fact that her partner has been repeatedly disrespecting her by eating these special products that she purchases for health reasons. For me, it was the letter she added in her edit that felt like a red flag. For starters, it was highly dramatic and clearly made it seem like this couple has serious communication issues on both sides. Our take on the whole milk debacle? It's quite possible that everyone sucks here.

Karens enjoy being given attention (albeit negative), and unfortunately, it tends to come at other people's expense. Especially those who work in customer service, AKA baristas, servers, retail workers, etc. This Karen picked the wrong day to mess with this barista, as it was the employee's last day. Karen had a constant rude, demeaning attitude, making employees and customers hate her alike. So it couldn't have been that much of a surprise that this employee snapped. But of course, we're talking about a Karen here, and anyone who doesn't worship the ground she stomps on is an immediate enemy in need of quick, skillful termination.

Karen barked at the barista, fed up with the fact that it was 'loud' in the coffee shop, and the barista had had enough. She herself replied with a taunt, admitting that she had ignored every request Karen had ever made to 'remake' her drink. This amounted to about a year. The aftermath of this brave confession was a total meltdown on Karen's part, as she totally lost it. Common Karen phrases such as, 'Get me your manager!', 'Fire her!', and 'I'm calling corporate!' were used. ‘I couldn't believe she got away with it’ : Unhinged Karen calls police in attempt to avoid paying for services, places false accusations on employee and gets away with it

There are people that are willing to go to great lengths in order to avoid paying, such as this Karen, who took advantage of an employee at a nail salon. He was just doing his job when she made an executive decision to make his life unnecessarily harder. She ignored his instructions and purposefully kept moving her hand out of the UV/LED light, so her fingernails wouldn't dry. He gently put her hand back in a couple of times, as it is his job to do so, and she lost it.

She called the cops, because, well, she is, as the title suggests, a little unhinged. When they arrived, she claimed he 'forced her hand into the light' and announced her desire to press charges. To say she got carried away a little would be putting it lightly. The police questioned the people in the shop, and the result of this whole mess was… nothing. That's the problem. She stirred up trouble and didn't pay for the service the salon provided. Plus she didn't get into any trouble for making up lies and wasting police time, either.

u/davidpham268 was furious and took to Reddit to complain. Commenters chimed in that it was his duty to press charges on her for not paying the bill. Trucking Company Takes Clients Own Advice and Fires Them After Calling Their Bluff

"Why don't you just fire us then." is an empty threat that you should never make, somewhere along the lines of "If you don't do this I quit" or "Why don't you just leave if you don't like it." When one makes such threats they're saying it thinking they're in a position of power. 

It's a power move and manipulation tactic to force a subordinate (or someone you otherwise have power over) into reluctantly accepting whatever terms you are proposing. By giving them an "out", the person in power is psychologically manipulating them into resigning and becoming complicit with the power-wielders wishes. 

So, when this trucking company had it suggested to them, by the client themselves, that they should fire the client, it triggered a reflection that caused the trucking company to realize that they'd rather not service this client any longer.

There is no greater horror when working in service and retail than having a customer come bursting through the doors moments before closing—sometimes, as you're literally turning the key to lock them. Some people have no chill and not a lick of common sense; they really don't understand that these workers want nothing more than to go home the moment their shift is done—with every right to feel that way.

This post was shared to Reddit's r/quityourbulls**t community by Reddit user u/NarutoCell, who shared screenshots of a 1-star google review in a thread titled "left [one-star] review on super bowl Sunday."

The review in the screenshot appears to have been written by a very salty Karen, who was displeased by the staff's apparent lack of interest in serving them. They then go on to explain that they've never actually tried the food there, detailing another time that they had arrived two minutes before close and had been refused service. 

The owner responded in a scathing message, citing their surveillance footage and claiming that the Karen had not, in fact, come two minutes before close but had arrived a full eight minutes after close when the team was desperately trying to clean up to make it home in time for the Super Bowl.

‘I cut her power’: College student gets fiery revenge on roommate by cutting the cord to her lamp, gets roasted in the comments

Some forms of petty revenge are so savage that even the Internet will call you out on it. In this instance, we have a college student whose roommate clearly is difficult. She stays up all night writing her novel ($20 says it's terrible) while insisting that she keeps a large lamp on the whole time and placing it on our protagonist's side of the room. That situation is notably unbearable. 

 

However, what the student decided to do next was way worse. When her roommate was out, she cut the cord at the bottom of the lamp just enough so that it would stop working before hiding it back under the base of the lamp. After a few days, the roommate conceded that the lamp was broken and allowed the student to put it in the closet. What the roommate failed to realize is that not only was the student responsible for breaking the lamp, but also she was actively endangering their dorm as cutting the cord has potentially made it practically on the verge of burning down.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit by u/noahgrice, who explained how after less than one week on the job at a grocery store chain, he was fired simply because he mentioned to his manager that he was available every day of the week except for Sundays.

 

Considering that they never mentioned the importance of Sunday availability during the hiring process, this is 100% the fault of the horrible bosses of the world. No matter what it is you do, workers are entitled to say when they're not available without needing to explain anything further or risk penalties as a result of setting boundaries. 

 

You'd think at this point we wouldn't need to say this in 2022, yet here we are. Until the people who are foolishly clinging to exploitative work environments retire and accept that this is not the way we should be doing things anymore, we have to keep calling these people out.

The OP writes that originally, she was hesitant to wear it after finding out how pricey the garment was. Apparently she had a premonition about what was going to happen. 

This woman's niece sounds not just like a dumb teen, but a malicious and dumb teen. She managed to destroy her aunt's expensive coat, and not only that, but she bragged about her deeds online. Her clout seeking is clearly going to cost her, though, as the OP shared in an update to the story. 

 After that, this traveller was psyched to get off an airplane first, but they didn't count on the other passengers getting seriously annoyed about it.

This thread, which was posted on Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/Dry_Tumbleweed_862, basically shows how this mother has no idea how to discipline her daughter at this point. First, they should never have bought her a car before the daughter officially got her license (what rich nonsense is that?). 

 

We understand that the intent was to make her feel comfortable in a vehicle before taking the driving test, but just make her comfortable in your car then. Buying a 15-year-old something and then subsequently restricting its use is way more complicated than just waiting till after the kid has earned her own car. 

 

And while we're on this subject, why restrict its use but not take the keys from her? You might as well give her a bottle of Vodka and say "but don't drink it." She's a teenager. She's going to drink it, Mom.

 

The moral of the story here is that coming up with elaborate ways to "track" your daughter's inability to follow the rules is more challenging than just doing a better job of establishing ground rules and making them feel as high stakes as they are.

'Would you save your sick cat or your homeless sister?': Malicious Redditor pays for life-saving surgery for her senior cat instead of bailing her estranged sister out of failed investments

For siblings that become the forgotten member of the family, it's tough to watch the golden child slide through life without worries or cares. Obviously, family drama is pretty inescapable, and can be taxing both emotionally and financially. One Redditor, u/TWoldCat, was the outcast of the family and was alienated from her family since a young age by her toxic mother and golden girl sister. However, after she had started a new life without them, she was dragged back into the drama. 

TWold was forced to make an impossible choice when it came to her dysfunctional family. She could either save her ailing 21-year-old cat, who had been her closest companion growing up, OR she could help bail out her financially irresponsible sister, who she had been estranged from for years.

For context, the cat needed dental surgery but was otherwise in excellent health. Twold's vet assured her that he had several happy years left in the tank if they were able to provide dental surgery for a bad tooth. Also, the sister had blown her off for years and they essentially never spoke until the charging into Twold's home two weeks ago, begging for money to cover her late mortgage payments due to her husband's poor financial investments in NFT's. Because they were behind a few months on payments, the sister was about to be kicked out of her home with nowhere else to go.

To be fair, according to Reddit, Lucy made the right call by ousting her sister, saving her cat, and blocking her angry family members online after they bashed TWold's final call. Frankly, it seems clear that TWold's cat was more familial to her than anyone else was, proving that blood is not thicker than furballs.

'She has threatened to call corporate': Entitled customer keeps barging into thrift store's backroom as employee tries to stop her

Customers can feel entitled to just about anything, as this sneaky woman proved to a thrift shop employee. 

The employee wrote that as a 4 year veteran of the thrift shop she works at, she has lots of regulars, including some that have no boundaries whatsoever. "V," as the OP has nicknamed her, is super pushy and feels that she runs the place. She seems to haggle with the employees to get prices lowered (at a thrift shop for goodness sake). But that's not even the worst of her problems. She also cannot fathom why she can't go in the "Employees Only" section of the store. 

As the OP noted, there's lots of reasons you wouldn't want a random customer rooting around through the backroom. Merchandise isn't priced yet, and employees leave their belongings back there, no expecting it to be disturbed. V is way too entitled, and the OP would be totally in the right if she referred her to corporate. Let V banish herself from the store with her own words!

What happens when you pair a working lady who financially abuses her partner with a stay-at-home dad who has a spending problem? 

 

The answer is that this relationship has more red flags than a Woody Allen movie. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/Ameliaroselia, who shared her story of discovering that her boyfriend, the father of her kid, stole thousands of dollars from her emergency safe over the course of a year. 

 

Now before everyone goes on to blame him entirely for the situation at hand, there's some nuance here. The Redditor admits that her boyfriend had expressed a desire to work more, a desire that she rejected for selfish reasons (wanting to spend more family time together). He also had a history of spending money irresponsibly, but her way of handling that compulsion was to make him run even the smallest of purchases by her before buying anything. We are in no way excusing stealing from your partner; what this guy did was obviously extremely messed up. Still, the financial abuse here cannot be excused either. In short, as many of the comments on Reddit suggest, they both suck.
