'She demanded my manager fire me on the spot' : Entitled customer Karen has meltdown and calls corporate following barista's savage confession

Karens enjoy being given attention (albeit negative), and unfortunately, it tends to come at other people's expense. Especially those who work in customer service, AKA baristas, servers, retail workers, etc. This Karen picked the wrong day to mess with this barista, as it was the employee's last day. Karen had a constant rude, demeaning attitude, making employees and customers hate her alike. So it couldn't have been that much of a surprise that this employee snapped. But of course, we're talking about a Karen here, and anyone who doesn't worship the ground she stomps on is an immediate enemy in need of quick, skillful termination.

Karen barked at the barista, fed up with the fact that it was 'loud' in the coffee shop, and the barista had had enough. She herself replied with a taunt, admitting that she had ignored every request Karen had ever made to 'remake' her drink. This amounted to about a year. The aftermath of this brave confession was a total meltdown on Karen's part, as she totally lost it. Common Karen phrases such as, 'Get me your manager!', 'Fire her!', and 'I'm calling corporate!' were used. Much to Karen's dismay, nobody really cared all that much, because it was this employee's last day. Scroll down for the full, hilarious story. ‘I couldn't believe she got away with it’ : Unhinged Karen calls police in attempt to avoid paying for services, places false accusations on employee and gets away with it

There are people that are willing to go to great lengths in order to avoid paying, such as this Karen, who took advantage of an employee at a nail salon. He was just doing his job when she made an executive decision to make his life unnecessarily harder. She ignored his instructions and purposefully kept moving her hand out of the UV/LED light, so her fingernails wouldn't dry. He gently put her hand back in a couple of times, as it is his job to do so, and she lost it.

She called the cops, because, well, she is, as the title suggests, a little unhinged. When they arrived, she claimed he 'forced her hand into the light' and announced her desire to press charges. To say she got carried away a little would be putting it lightly. The police questioned the people in the shop, and the result of this whole mess was… nothing. That's the problem. She stirred up trouble and didn't pay for the service the salon provided. Plus she didn't get into any trouble for making up lies and wasting police time, either.

u/davidpham268 was furious and took to Reddit to complain. Commenters chimed in that it was his duty to press charges on her for not paying the bill. For more stories like this, here is a man who took malicious compliance to a whole other level when he 'hired' a goat for yardwork after his HOA forbade him from hiring an actual company.

Trucking Company Takes Clients Own Advice and Fires Them After Calling Their Bluff

"Why don't you just fire us then." is an empty threat that you should never make, somewhere along the lines of "If you don't do this I quit" or "Why don't you just leave if you don't like it." When one makes such threats they're saying it thinking they're in a position of power.

It's a power move and manipulation tactic to force a subordinate (or someone you otherwise have power over) into reluctantly accepting whatever terms you are proposing. By giving them an "out", the person in power is psychologically manipulating them into resigning and becoming complicit with the power-wielders wishes.

So, when this trucking company had it suggested to them, by the client themselves, that they should fire the client, it triggered a reflection that caused the trucking company to realize that they'd rather not service this client any longer.

Keep reading to see screenshots of this story, as posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit this week by Reddit user u/Wildcatb. They've promised to post an update as things unfold, so we'll be keeping an eye out for it.

'LOL, He Blocked Me' : Top Dating App Flops of the Week (March 21, 2023)

There are periods of time when you frequent dating apps more than others, and during your short breaks, you kind of forget what it's like. Reopening Tinder is the catalyst for reinstalling all those memories. The surge is unreal… once the floodgates reopen, you breathe a sigh of distress, and the flashbacks begin. Blocked! Berated! Bot!

The list goes on. But in today's day and age, you don't have a choice. Your bravery has long since gone out the window, forcing you to hide behind a bright screen, swiping for connection. Heaven forbid you actually look someone in the face and tell them you like them. That would be the end of the world as you know it. And who wants the world to end?

As for me, I am currently erasing the app once again, as it has officially tired me out. Scroll down and you'll see why. For more fails, check out this absolute cringe-fest.

10+ Top Tinder Moments of the Week (March 21, 2023)

There doesn't seem to be a lot of consensus as to what love actually is… Is it a battlefield? A stranger? A losing game?.. That aside, is it really all you need? This general confusion and lack of consensus about love translate over into the world of dating—with no one really being able to agree on what they're after or what they even want.

The problem is… if you don't know what you want, how in the heck can anyone possibly give you what you need? Thus, those looking for love often end up in a perpetual cycle of ghosting, disappointment, and crumbling relationships.

25+ Cake Fails That Ruined Graduations, Birthdays, and Weddings

Who knew that a cake really can make or break a party? Seeing the instructions you made for the order on the final product has got to be infuriating upon delivery. I guess you got exactly what you ordered, though. Then, of course, there's the lazy misspelling (i.e. "congrations" instead of "congratulations"). However, upon further reflection, one has to wonder why we don't just say "congrations" in life. I mean, it sounds better, it's easier to spell, and who has the energy for all those excess syllables anyway? Just a thought. Maybe this cake maker was actually onto something there.

Despite all of these flawed baked goods, there is also the argument that if it tastes good, none of these mistakes should matter. At the end of the day, cake is not about the message. Cake is about the eating. So, in the spirit of Marie Antoinette, let us eat cake.

'Should I accept the job?': Job seeker uses ChatGPT to ace virtual job interview

The fear that ChatGPT, or some other AI, could replace your job in the near future is an absolutely real one—especially when your job mainly consists of writing short, accessible pieces that someone may or may not even read when they visit your webpage.

ChatGPT assures me, when I ask it, that there's no way that it could replace a human writer completely… but what if that's just what it wants me to think so that it can covertly plot to put me out of business? How are we even certain that ChatGPT hasn't written this post? My writing gig certainly wouldn't be the first job to be made obsolete by new technology.

Well, as frightening as the prospect is, there appear to be ways that these technologies can help us too. This Redditor, u/JoJolion_,  claims that they managed to ace a virtual interview by using the AI to answer the interviewer's questions. Is this real? Who can be sure? But it's an interesting prospect and a fun read.

'Check our hours on Google next time': Karen leaves 1-star review when she tries to order food after close, gets roasted by owner's scathing response

There is no greater horror when working in service and retail than having a customer come bursting through the doors moments before closing—sometimes, as you're literally turning the key to lock them. Some people have no chill and not a lick of common sense; they really don't understand that these workers want nothing more than to go home the moment their shift is done—with every right to feel that way.

This post was shared to Reddit's r/quityourbulls**t community by Reddit user u/NarutoCell, who shared screenshots of a 1-star google review in a thread titled "left [one-star] review on super bowl Sunday."

The review in the screenshot appears to have been written by a very salty Karen, who was displeased by the staff's apparent lack of interest in serving them. They then go on to explain that they've never actually tried the food there, detailing another time that they had arrived two minutes before close and had been refused service.

The owner responded in a scathing message, citing their surveillance footage and claiming that the Karen had not, in fact, come two minutes before close but had arrived a full eight minutes after close when the team was desperately trying to clean up to make it home in time for the Super Bowl.

‘I cut her power’: College student gets fiery revenge on roommate by cutting the cord to her lamp, gets roasted in the comments

Some forms of petty revenge are so savage that even the Internet will call you out on it. In this instance, we have a college student whose roommate clearly is difficult. She stays up all night writing her novel ($20 says it's terrible) while insisting that she keeps a large lamp on the whole time and placing it on our protagonist's side of the room. That situation is notably unbearable.

However, what the student decided to do next was way worse. When her roommate was out, she cut the cord at the bottom of the lamp just enough so that it would stop working before hiding it back under the base of the lamp. After a few days, the roommate conceded that the lamp was broken and allowed the student to put it in the closet. What the roommate failed to realize is that not only was the student responsible for breaking the lamp, but also she was actively endangering their dorm as cutting the cord has potentially made it practically on the verge of burning down.

'I don't tolerate liars': Local Karen and Kevin denied a room at hotel, front desk worker stands ground

There are some people you just don't want to mess with, and front desk workers at hotels are definitely among those people. Making enemies with them can only speak trouble, considering they could make your stay literally terrible. However, in this case, this shady Karen and Kevin won't even have a bad stay… because they won't be having a stay at all.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/TalesFromTheFrontDesk subreddit by u/crabdancer64, who explained that given some bad previous experiences, the hotel in which they work no longer rents to locals in the area. As the Redditor says themselves, it's not their decision, and it's not their policy. So when the original poster caught this local Karen and Kevin in a lie and could tell they were trying to circumnavigate this strict rule, the Redditor stood their ground despite their, shall we say, aggressive personalities. Millennials Want to be Abducted by the 'Gameboy Mom' in Nostalgic '90s Police Video Warning Kids of Stranger Danger

Remember those caution videos our parents and teachers would make us watch telling us not to help a stranger look for their lost dog? They were classic warning videos, usually hosted by a man in uniform, warning kids of "stranger danger." Did the '90s generation come up with that term, "stranger danger??" It feels like it wasn't a thing until the '70s went by with the most serial k¡llers and the '80s with it's drvg epidemic and the '90s finally came and parents finally had and told us things like, "I don't care if it's an old lady who has fallen on the ground and can't get up, you do not talk to them." Well, one of these classic stranger danger videos from the '90s has resurfaced on Instagram and this time it features a woman with a Gameboy asking if you will come to her car with her to help her change the batteries so you guys can play video games on it together. The video tells you to stay away from this suspicious woman, but people on the Internet have a different opinion…

Employee Says He's Available Every Day Except Sunday, Gets Fired After Only 6 Days on the Job

Here is yet another story where boundary setting led to wrongful termination!

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit by u/noahgrice, who explained how after less than one week on the job at a grocery store chain, he was fired simply because he mentioned to his manager that he was available every day of the week except for Sundays.

Considering that they never mentioned the importance of Sunday availability during the hiring process, this is 100% the fault of the horrible bosses of the world. No matter what it is you do, workers are entitled to say when they're not available without needing to explain anything further or risk penalties as a result of setting boundaries.

You'd think at this point we wouldn't need to say this in 2022, yet here we are. Until the people who are foolishly clinging to exploitative work environments retire and accept that this is not the way we should be doing things anymore, we have to keep calling these people out.

We've seen plenty of stories involving horrible bosses and wretched management, like this one where an office supply store employee got revenge on her evil manager.

'I was totally bewildered, she actually expected an inheritance' : Entitled employee costs boss $5,000 in losses, gets fired, still expects ‘inheritance’ after his passing, wife takes petty revenge

When you think of the words 'inheritance' and 'employee', you don't normally find a relation. That's because bosses usually don't leave their workers any inheritance, which… makes sense, right? Not to this employee, it didn't. She had worked for her former boss (who was a remodeler) for many years, and let's just say she wasn't exactly a 'model' employee. She would borrow tools, returning them only after long periods of time, completely broken. She was eventually caught stealing from one of her boss's clients, so he fired her.

Fast forward a bit, and he became ill. After his passing, this employee approached his wife and told her that she expected an 'inheritance'. To say his wife was shocked would be an understatement. But instead of turning her down, she decided to enact a plot for petty revenge. This employee was less than happy with the results of this plot.

Update! 'AITA for taking my niece to court over a coat?': Teen destroys $20k coat and brags about her prank online

This is going to be the most expensive mistake this teen ever made after her aunt considers suing her!

On a throwaway account, this woman wrote to r/AmItheA**hole with an important question regarding a family matter. As the OP writes, she married into a wealthy family who shower her with expensive presents. One of those happens to be a coat worth over $20,000! The OP writes that originally, she was hesitant to wear it after finding out how pricey the garment was. Apparently she had a premonition about what was going to happen.

This woman's niece sounds not just like a dumb teen, but a malicious and dumb teen. She managed to destroy her aunt's expensive coat, and not only that, but she bragged about her deeds online. Her clout seeking is clearly going to cost her, though, as the OP shared in an update to the story.

After that, this traveller was psyched to get off an airplane first, but they didn't count on the other passengers getting seriously annoyed about it.

'Some idiot put this cake's writing in cursive!': Upset parent roasted by employee over dumb birthday cake dispute

A bakery employee shared this tale of a cake mixup that must have been the most embarrassing day this customer ever had. At least this worker never let it leave their memory — it's just too funny!

Birthday parties are definitely one of the most fun parts of childhood, whether you were blowing out your own candles, or visiting someone else's house to give them gifts. But in all the commotion of parties, do kids really care about or notice their birthday cake? I don't think so, but this one woman was really convinced that her toddler was going to absolutely hate his birthday cake.

As the OP shared to r/Talesfromretail, they encountered this woman who began complaining about the bakery. She was incensed about this cake; it seems like she was really winding up to a full-scale Karen meltdown. However, the OP managed to stop this perturbed parent in her tracks by shouting commonsense questions at her. She'll never live it down!

'You didn't do anything about it?': Manager underestimates busboy and tries to scapegoat him, other workers quit

It's always best to take advice from and listen to the person who knows best… and just because you're in charge doesn't automatically mean that that's you. Even the most base level of worker will know more than you about niche details and processes regarding their role. That's the reason why, when entering a new leadership position, it's always best to observe and learn before acting and making changes. There will reach a point where you need to step in and make some changes, some of which may not be popular; Still, you'd do well to listen to the feedback you receive from these workers. And when things don't go according to plan, you'd better own your own mistakes.

This worker shared a story from their younger days working as a busboy, in which they were faced with a manager who refused to heed their warnings or take their advice. And when things went wrong, they tried to cover their own ass by scapegoating the busboy.

Mom Installs GPS Tracker in Unlicensed Teen's Car & It backfires!

This Mom thought outlining the tires with chalk and installing a GPS tracker would stop her unlicensed teenage daughter from taking out her car when her parents weren't home. Rookie mistake.

This thread, which was posted on Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/Dry_Tumbleweed_862, basically shows how this mother has no idea how to discipline her daughter at this point. First, they should never have bought her a car before the daughter officially got her license (what rich nonsense is that?).

We understand that the intent was to make her feel comfortable in a vehicle before taking the driving test, but just make her comfortable in your car then. Buying a 15-year-old something and then subsequently restricting its use is way more complicated than just waiting till after the kid has earned her own car.

And while we're on this subject, why restrict its use but not take the keys from her? You might as well give her a bottle of Vodka and say "but don't drink it." She's a teenager. She's going to drink it, Mom.

The moral of the story here is that coming up with elaborate ways to "track" your daughter's inability to follow the rules is more challenging than just doing a better job of establishing ground rules and making them feel as high stakes as they are.

We've seen plenty of rebellious teenagers acting out recently. For more, check out this story where a stepdaughter lashed out and threw her phone out the window. Keep scrolling below for the original post and for the best comments!

'Would you save your sick cat or your homeless sister?': Malicious Redditor pays for life-saving surgery for her senior cat instead of bailing her estranged sister out of failed investments

For siblings that become the forgotten member of the family, it's tough to watch the golden child slide through life without worries or cares. Obviously, family drama is pretty inescapable, and can be taxing both emotionally and financially. One Redditor, u/TWoldCat, was the outcast of the family and was alienated from her family since a young age by her toxic mother and golden girl sister. However, after she had started a new life without them, she was dragged back into the drama.

TWold was forced to make an impossible choice when it came to her dysfunctional family. She could either save her ailing 21-year-old cat, who had been her closest companion growing up, OR she could help bail out her financially irresponsible sister, who she had been estranged from for years.

For context, the cat needed dental surgery but was otherwise in excellent health. Twold's vet assured her that he had several happy years left in the tank if they were able to provide dental surgery for a bad tooth. Also, the sister had blown her off for years and they essentially never spoke until the charging into Twold's home two weeks ago, begging for money to cover her late mortgage payments due to her husband's poor financial investments in NFT's. Because they were behind a few months on payments, the sister was about to be kicked out of her home with nowhere else to go.

To be fair, according to Reddit, Lucy made the right call by ousting her sister, saving her cat, and blocking her angry family members online after they bashed TWold's final call. Frankly, it seems clear that TWold's cat was more familial to her than anyone else was, proving that blood is not thicker than furballs.

20+ Coworker Memes of the Week for Understaffed Teams of Employees (March 16, 2023)

Management doesn't necessarily provide the requisite means for employees to feel excited about work, AKA a non-toxic environment, and a good salary. In fact, the cost of living is making more and more people want to stay plonked down on their couches, and collect unemployment. Can we blame 'em? I mean, partially, I guess. But I understand the unappreciated broke feeling that is running rampant nowadays.

Is it fixable? Well… another good question without a black-and-white answer. Instead of focusing on all that, I'd rather focus on memes. First of all, it's a great way to procrastinate, and second of all, it is a proven method to distribute much-needed serotonin. We can focus on all the bad Karen coworker energy wafting around another time.

This week, I've compiled the best of the best when it comes to coworker memes. To check out last week's memes batch, all you gotta do is click here.

'Go back... and wait like everyone else': Traveller sparks airplane etiquette debate after they cut off passengers in front of them

The internet is debating the unspoken rules of boarding and exiting airplanes after this guy's 'AITA' question.

Lots of people enjoy flying, but many more people probably would say they actually hate being on airplanes. After getting through hours of security at the airport, you have to rush to your gate and then board in order. Then, you fly in a cramped cabin for hours, stuffed in like sardines with other random people. This traveller has a question about what happens once the airplane touches down again at its destination. As they write, they were sitting at the rear of the aircraft when it landed, and since they only had a backpack, the OP quickly got up and rushed to the front of the plane.

This traveller probably thought that was a brilliant idea. What they didn't count on, though, was the reactions of the other passengers around them, who were completely ticked off that this person cut the line.

After that, scroll through these hilarious and scandalous confessions that are so dramatic they can only be told anonymously.

'She has threatened to call corporate': Entitled customer keeps barging into thrift store's backroom as employee tries to stop her

Customers can feel entitled to just about anything, as this sneaky woman proved to a thrift shop employee.

The employee wrote that as a 4 year veteran of the thrift shop she works at, she has lots of regulars, including some that have no boundaries whatsoever. "V," as the OP has nicknamed her, is super pushy and feels that she runs the place. She seems to haggle with the employees to get prices lowered (at a thrift shop for goodness sake). But that's not even the worst of her problems. She also cannot fathom why she can't go in the "Employees Only" section of the store.

As the OP noted, there's lots of reasons you wouldn't want a random customer rooting around through the backroom. Merchandise isn't priced yet, and employees leave their belongings back there, no expecting it to be disturbed. V is way too entitled, and the OP would be totally in the right if she referred her to corporate. Let V banish herself from the store with her own words!

Next up, this guy was shocked that his HOA wants him to get rid of his airplane — and it's not even parked at his house.

Girlfriend Won't Let Stay-at-Home Dad Work, so He Steals From Their Emergency Fund

What happens when you pair a working lady who financially abuses her partner with a stay-at-home dad who has a spending problem?

The answer is that this relationship has more red flags than a Woody Allen movie. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/Ameliaroselia, who shared her story of discovering that her boyfriend, the father of her kid, stole thousands of dollars from her emergency safe over the course of a year.

Now before everyone goes on to blame him entirely for the situation at hand, there's some nuance here. The Redditor admits that her boyfriend had expressed a desire to work more, a desire that she rejected for selfish reasons (wanting to spend more family time together). He also had a history of spending money irresponsibly, but her way of handling that compulsion was to make him run even the smallest of purchases by her before buying anything. We are in no way excusing stealing from your partner; what this guy did was obviously extremely messed up. Still, the financial abuse here cannot be excused either. In short, as many of the comments on Reddit suggest, they both suck.

'No OnE EvEr WaNtS tO dO aNyThInG': Toxic family group chat goes horribly wrong when petty aunt completely misses the point

Families always have a complicated dynamic. Because nobody has a perfect family, most people can relate to having a family group chat go completely awry, even when the best efforts and intentions are made. One woman knows better than anyone that a family chat can go south in an instant. Recently a girl named Mikayla was attempting to get the family reunited to celebrate the birthday of their grandma all together. To do so, she reached out to a large group of family members – aunts, cousins, siblings – in order to find a day and time that worked for everybody. When Aunt Debi immediately tried to make excuses to get out of things and when Mikayla provokes a real answer, everything went horribly wrong.

Aunt Debi immediately went on a rampage claiming that she was tired of dealing with their whole family, nobody was keeping in touch, and nobody ever made efforts to get together... In the group chat… Where Mikayla was literally trying to make a plan so everyone could get together…. And trying to make time for a family gathering.

Things get much worse after Aunt Debi's confused response and it becomes clear why this toxic family never gets together– apparently nobody can actually read the messages sent to them and respond in an appropriate way. Mikayla did her best to do something nice in honor of her grandma, but it all backfired with everyone decided to simply be petty.

Karen leaves business 1-star review because someone was rude to her child adjacent to it

Imagine you're a business owner who has just opened up their doors. You operate out of a storefront in a small neighborhood center that provides outdoor maintenance and cleaning.

Along comes a Karen with her flock of children; they're out of control, making a fuss and a scene. The maintenance guy is out front cleaning the sidewalk. They're repeatedly getting in the maintenance guy's way, pestering him with all types of questions, and he quickly has just about had enough. He lets it fly at Karen and her children.

Now, you're left with a 1-star review for something that wasn't even your fault, all because someone was rude to her children adjacent to your business.

That's exactly what might have happened in these screenshots that were shared to Reddit's r/F##kYouKaren subreddit by Redditor u/yoshigronk. The screenshots depict a 1-star review that was posted by a mother who was upset by how her children were treated near the business.

In the comments of the post, viewers shared their thoughts on the mother's review. See a selection of these below and view the original thread to see the full post.

UPDATE: 'I decided to take it to court': Bridesmaid gets kicked out of wedding for cutting her hair due to medical issue, sues bridezilla for not paying her back

For anyone who has ever had to deal with a crazy bridezilla, this story has the kind of triumphant ending bridezillas deserve. This thread and its update were reposted to the r/BestofRedditorUpdates subreddit, and let's just say that bridezillas everywhere better watch out after what happened to this one.

Essentially, the original poster had a medical issue that involved partial hair loss and therefore made the difficult decision to cut her hair off a couple of weeks before the wedding. However, this bridezilla could not fathom the idea that one of her bridesmaids would not look identical to the others and decided to fire her from the wedding party just a few days before the wedding. Well, seeing as the original poster had already spent a ridiculous amount of money on wedding-related expenses, she sent bridezilla and her fiancé an invoice. When they didn't respond, she took them to court… and guess what, folks? She WON!

'HOA is demanding I move my plane': Snooping neighbors insist homeowner remove the sensible buoys and safety signs around his seaplane

Home Owner's Associations often delight in trying to get people to change their homes, but this HOA extended their reach even further.

For this person, their HOA didn't just try to control their property, but even made a lake their jurisdiction! As the OP wrote to r/AmItheA**hole, they live in a lakefront cottage. The OP is also a pilot who owns a seaplane, which they can keep conveniently parked in the water in front of their home. In an effort to keep everyone safe around the plane, the OP created their own warning signs, and put up buoys to demarcate a large area around the plane. Seems commonsensical? Not to this HOA, who came knocking at this homeowner's door to demand he get rid of it all.

Starting a new job can be as nerve-wracking as it is exciting. So many new doors open before you lead to new opportunities, which can bring a lot of uncertainty with it. Of course, those new doors won't lead anywhere at all if you show up on your third day to find them padlocked shut with a notice on the door…

That's what happened to this poor job-seeker, Reddit user yelloworange01, who shared their experience in a post to the popular r/antiwork subreddit, a community that deals with all kinds of workplace issues and discussion. In their post, they share what happened.

"[I] turned down three jobs for another offer," u/yelloworange01 wrote in the title of the thread. "Turned up for my third day at work. [The] company went into admin the night before and decided not to tell me, [they] just padlocked the door and left this."

The thread itself consisted of a photo of the notice that they said was posted at the front door of the business. The post explains the closure of the company due to financial business, though the worker was not personally notified.

In the comments, u/yelloworange01 explained further: "There was absolutely no warning to anyone, they laid off nearly 500 people and owed tens of thousands in unpaid commission to their staff, and the CEO filed bankruptcy." They also responded with more clarifying comments, sharing an email written by the CEO and some of the other fallout.

It's hard to imagine giving up the security of your job for a new one, only to find yourself completely without any job at all when the offer is withdrawn, or the business shuts down. Yet, this does happen, and the company often doesn't even need a reason to withdraw.
