This small business owner gave their newly-promoted manager a choice of a demotion or termination after the manager failed to report for a shift that they were supposed to be running. The manager's failure to notify of their absence and subsequent lack of communication meant that the business was not opened on time and remained closed until after the owner was notified three hours later.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AITA (Am I the A**hole) subreddit by Reddit user and business owner, u/Absolut_Failure. They posted their story to the popular subreddit in order to see whether or not they were in the wrong for setting this ultimatum for their newly-promoted manager after they failed to show up for a shift.

You gotta hand it to the employer here, there are quite a few green flags. They address the fact that they feel that they are the "AH" (a**hole) in this situation and make multiple comments that speak to the trust and goodwill they have for their employee.  

I completely disagree that they are in the wrong here, the employee has made a massive mistake that has and should shake the trust of their employer. It seems that, based on the whole "spoon" thing (which is explained in the comments), there might be some kind of mental health issues at play here. Seeing as this is their first offense I think firing is a bit harsh, but absolutely the owner should feel like their trust has been shaken and there should be some penalties involved.

This teacher tried to enforce their late policy and docked a student's grade for two consecutive essays, but there's an added layer here. The student has ADHD and the school has limited accommodations. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/phootfreek. 

 

Despite trying to reach out to the student on several occasions, their work continued to come in weeks after the deadline. By the time first quarter grades came in, the student was upset by their C- grade, despite the fact that the grade itself was actually generously rounded up. 

 

This one's a tough call, as evidenced by the split reactions in the comments section. On the one hand, this teacher is clearly going above and beyond for a student who is having trouble meeting her halfway. On the other, students with learning differences are rarely supported in class. There are a lot of similarities between a roommate and a domestic worker. For one, both live in your house—which is probably the most obvious. Guy Turns the Tables After Financing His Cheating Wife and Her Grifting Boyfriend

This is just the marriage/grifter plot of Scorsese's Casino, right? Tell me this isn't some adaptive creative writing piece that has just repacked the movie into a Reddit thread. The fact that the author even references Lester Diamond and Sam Rothstein, two of the characters from the film, makes this scenario ever more likely. 

The story was shared to Reddit's r/ProRevenge subreddit by Reddit user u/OfPearlsandSwine, who shared their story to the popular sub in a thread titled "Topsy Turvy." The thread, which earned nearly 3k upvotes, makes for an entertaining read but drew a lot of criticism from suspicious commenters.

"I'm a lawyer, but probably not in the jurisdiction OP is. This sounds a bit skew-iff (a legal term) to me," responded user soppinglovenest, commenting on the dubious nature of some of the story elements.

"I've never heard about a debt being shared in a divorce before; that's a real neat bit of revenge there," said user ProjectNature-Kurisu, who pointed out a key (potential) flaw in a key part of the story.

Entitled Karen Goes Into Full Rage Mode at Movie Theater, Guy Dumps His Water Bottle on Her

There's nothing like an all-out brawl with a Karen at the movie theater to make the moviegoing experience all the more memorable. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/EntitledPeople subreddit by u/NoStateGreenery, who shared an anecdote about an upper-class Karen, her balding boyfriend, and an impulsive choice to dump a water bottle on them to defend his mother.

Infuriating Coworkers Complain About Flexible Working Arrangement, Makes Everything Worse For Everyone

Why would you argue against your own working freedoms? Pre-pandemic flexible arrangements were hard enough to come by, and post-pandemic corporate life is already quickly forgetting them—we see more and more posts every day about the evaporation of remote work.

This workplace is a perfect example of the recently-trending term "Crab Mentality"—which basically boils down to "If I can't have it neither can you." The term originates from the (alleged) behavior of crabs who, when trapped in a bucket, will drag those closest to escaping back down to the bottom rather than let them escape alone. It's the type of race to the bottom that you often see in hostile and otherwise toxic working environments, where everyone is in it for themselves, and no one wants to let someone else achieve success or "have it better". 

This is also similar to "tall poppy syndrome" which Wikipedia describes as "a cultural phenomenon in which people hold back, criticize or sabotage those who have or are believed to have achieved notable success." Basically instead of dragging someone back down before they can achieve success cultures where this persists have a habit of dragging someone back down once they are perceived to have achieved success. The end result, however, is the same—everyone is a loser.

The people in the workplace displayed exemplary "crab mentality" when they tipped the domino that started a chain reaction of events that would make the workplace less fun and less liveable for everyone. That's what makes these terrible coworkers so infuriating.

Mother wonders if she's wrong for letting her 4-year-old son spend his entire life savings on her friends (and there's a lot to unpack here.)

When I opened this thread, I found myself first wondering, what kind of mother would allow her child to spend their savings on her friends? That quickly gave way to wondering why a 4-year-old has this much money in the first place—enough that they could afford multiple meals and gifts (at an amusement park nonetheless—not cheap). After pondering over these things, I finally came to terms with the fact that there are some very different tax brackets at play here than I was initially picturing.

Well… at least he hasn't been saving for very long! There's still plenty of time for him to recoup from this devastating financial loss. After all, he probably won't remember it—and if he does it will be as his earliest trauma. If his allowance (which appears to be larger than my paycheck) doesn't cut it, then the trust fund should certainly help out. There's a lot going on and a lot to unpack with this one.

Why does this 4-year-old have such an extraordinarily large allowance? It's not as if a 4-year-old can actually rationalize saving for a future. Are whatever parts of the brain involved in future planning even developed at four years old? Why on god's green earth has this mother allowed this infantile good samaritan to spend his entire savings on her adult friends? I can't help but picture some sort of "Mr. Moneybags" type scenario where all the adults are gathered around laughing and making light of the fact that this child actually wants to spend their money so that other people can eat. What a concept.

This whole situation is incredibly confusing, and it sounds like there are some conflicts happening between the parents behind the scene, but I'd say the commenters (and Reddit hivemind) have it right with this one.
