'I got fed up': Worker quits after being refused raise to match wage of new hires

This grocery store cashier was the workhorse of their manager's dwindling team; When their employer began running a promotion offering higher wages to fill vacant roles, the cashier asked for a raise which they were denied. They then found themselves training the new hires, who were making more than they were.

'You need to be better at timekeeping...': Boss reprimands employee for being three minutes late once, they stop staying late

Be careful what you wish for…

When you're managing people, you really need to be careful with your choice of words, especially if you're the type of tyrannical manager who expects your instructions to be followed to the letter. If you unintentionally leave room for interpretation in your autocratic tirades, expect it to be interpreted in the most ridiculous (or disadvantageous possible ways.)

That's what happened when this boss told their subordinate to "be better at timekeeping" after they were late by just three minutes. The employee writes that this interaction eroded all goodwill that the employer and employee shared, and the employee suddenly found themselves wondering why they were working all this extra unpaid time outside of their contracted hours.

They started being better with their timekeeping and began leaving exactly when they were supposed to (why weren't they doing that anyway?) which pissed their boss off to no end.

Video of Barn Cat Intrigued by a Rattlesnake Sparks Debate Between Crazy-Cat People and Farmers

Farmers who have had barn cats all their lives say the cats are expert hunters and snakes don't stand a chance, but cat lovers say that it's irresponsible to let your pet feline near a venomous snake. (P.S. The cat in the video is perfectly fine.)

'She said it was the perfect time to announce their engagement': Future bridezilla upstages sister on her birthday

You know that feeling when you realize your sister is going to be a bridezilla?

That's exactly what this poor teenager experienced during her sixteenth birthday party when her sister upstaged the entire event by revealing her engagement, claiming it was a good idea because the whole family was already there. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/Notbxlls444, who thankfully has at least one good family member in her corner.

That would be her Dad who, as the story and comments suggest, really stepped up to the plate and understood that this whole reveal was poorly planned and executed. We wish that a mistake like this wouldn't exactly set the tone for how this wedding process is likely to play out, but unfortunately, it just does. This sister clearly lacks a considerable amount of self-awareness (one thing she doesn't lack, however, is a considerable amount of narcissism). Let's all pour one out for the original poster, who is in for a wild ride. Keep scrolling below for the full story!

'I wasn't allowed to have water': Employee walks out of working interview because of employer's bizarre rules

I bet this employer can't wait for the android revolution that we've been promised. After all, an android wouldn't need to spend two minutes on the bathroom break that results from being properly hydrated.

Software engineer stops helping sexist coworker, lets them show their true colors and screw themselves

It's unfortunate that people with really crappy personalities are often allowed to subsist, even thrive, within our workplaces and communities. We're all guilty of and complicit in this happening; all too often, we silently allow these people to exist amongst us and even help them succeed for fear of "rocking the boat" or "causing a scene." Unfortunately, this only enables them in their secretly destructive ways, and by not dealing with the problems when we see them, we let them go on to do harm and victimize others. To be fair to those who stay silent, once these people manage to seize power within their circle, they're often extremely effective at silencing those who have, or might, speak out against them.

How often has this happened within celebrity circles in the last ten years? There will be someone in a position of power whom everyone knows is terrible. Still, it's only once they've been thrust fully into the light and exposed that those who haven't been personally victimized are willing to do something about it. While these "open secrets" are allowed abuse unchecked, they take victims who should have never even been exposed to them in the first place.

Reddit user u/Many_Bridge4619 suddenly realized they were helping their sexist coworker to succeed in their workplace, and in turn, as the coworker revealed more and more of their true nature, they found a solution to the problem. They stopped helping the coworker and gave them enough rope to hang themselves with, then watched as they floundered and revealed this true nature for all to see.

Keep reading to see the screenshots. Worth noting here that the author gets confused with their names partway through and starts intermixing the names "John" and "Mike" in relation to the sexist coworker and another engineer on their team. Other than that, it's a solid read.

Funniest Memes for People Who Get Imposter Syndrome at Work and Feel Like They Are Truly Just Winging It

Imposter Syndrome is a tricky one—sometimes it has you thinking you're killing it at work simply because you have been able to hold up this ruse that you know what you're doing. Other times it has you crippling in fear because you are sure that everyone knows you suck and they're just saying nice things to you like "wow, great job!" and "that was some great work you did!" because they feel bad for you… But maybe, JUST MAYBE, you actually do know what you are doing? Maybe you are actually good at you job? Did you ever think of that? It's hard to have that thought cross your mind when you're stuck in the clutches of Imposter Syndrome. But hey! I'd argue that everyone is just winging it until they figure it out, so if you feel that way, be assure you are not alone. If you don't believe me, just check out these relatable hilarious memes about it!

Funniest Work Memes for People Who Show Up To Their Job for the Paycheck and Stay for the Tea

Work is a necessary evil in life. Oftentimes, people wonder what their lives would be like if they were millionaires, or even billionaires, and they didn't have to work. Obviously, for some Godawful reason, millionaires and billionaires insist on continuing to work 90 hour weeks, but as a regular person, having the option to have all your bills paid without clocking in sounds pretty nice.

For those of you that are not billionaires, presumably 99% of you, you gotta go to work.

Sometimes the only thing getting you out of bed in the morning is the promise of a paycheck and the drama awaiting you at your desk job. Spill the tea sis, that's the only reason I'm here. It's pretty understandable. Corporate culture is simply so dry and so boring that employees HAVE to be dramatic in order to survive. So YES Donna-the-receptionist, you should go on a date with the janitor… We all see that going really well for office morale.

This insane neighbor seriously wants this guy to pay for the remnants of his own property.

'The store closed down not two months later': Employee fired over technicality, takes their stuff and leaves company nonfunctional

Unfortunately, not being recognized or appreciated for your contributions in the workplace is a pretty commonplace occurrence. Often your efforts can be taken for granted or just completely fly under the radar. This is the reason why people who are expert communicators, schmooze, or just generally work at self-promotion often find themselves in stations far above those who would rather die than engage in small talk at the office, and often end up in positions that exceed their actual capabilities.

One can't help but wonder whether or not the poster of this story was effectively communicating just how much they were personally contributing to their workplace's resources. Things seem like they were so dysfunctional there that it probably wouldn't have mattered regardless. After all, all it took was like… one employee, a sign, and a stapler to send this business spinning into the stratosphere of non-existence.

'I just got quiet promoted': Employee realizes he's been given more responsibilities with no pay raise

People are talking a whole lot about "quiet quitting" but not a lot about "quiet promotions."

'The [two] girls had no idea that I even play': Friendly volleyball game gets turned on its head when newcomers take things too far

There's nothing worse than when someone takes a friendly competition way too far and ruins it by being overly competitive. I say this as someone who used to be toxically over-competitive. I cringe thinking about the nights of family bowling and board games I ruined in my teens with my toxic attitude. But, never fear, there is someone out there who never outgrew this behavior and is in their mid-thirties but still determined to beat their grandmother into the dirt during a family game of Croquet. I guarantee you know someone who is like this and I guarantee that you hate doing things with them. Maybe you are this person? If so this is your message that your friends and family hate doing things with you and are not in the slightest bit impressed that you won your family bowling night with a score of 129.

Don't get me wrong, friendly and healthy competition is fun, and being super competitive at something can be awesome when it's in the right setting, and all parties are ready to engage with the activity in that way. But you have to read the damn room and realize when your behavior is not suited to the event at hand.

Anyways, this is a story about exactly what I've described above; Two newcomers take a friendly competition way too far and bring out the sleeping beast within. The story was originally posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by Reddit user u/just_wanna_share.

'Bonjour homies': Boomers fail to entice young people with most ridiculous job posting

I guess boomers really are desperate to find people who are willing to work for them. This Linkedin post, which was reposted via this thread on Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit by u/Etna_No_Pyroclast, just goes to show how out of touch employers are and how obvious their BS is.

This job posting may be riddled with millennial and Gen-Z language like "dank," "dope," and "vibes," but what it doesn't include is any legitimate detail about the company, the job, and of course, the pay. Do employers really think anyone in 2022 looking for work is going to fall for this? Young people don't want "vibes" as much as they want fair pay and transparency. Sure, "vibes" are nice. "Vibes" are great. Nothing against "vibes." But "vibes" do not pay rent and they do not assure me that I'm going to get health benefits, a sound company culture, and a strong work/life balance. "Vibes" are just "vibes."

'Good riddance': Trashy neighbors refuse to stop using driveway, get towed, arrested, and fined

When this Redditor purchased a new house that had been sitting vacant for some time, they unwittingly placed themself in uncomfortably close proximity to trashy neighbors who refused to respect their property and space. They had apparently spread out like an amoeba into the empty lot and had been using the property as their own for some time. Despite repeated requests not to park their cars in the driveway that were blocking contractors from accessing the property, the family refused to comply. The Redditor was forced to take more drastic measures and had their cars towed, and had the father of the family arrested for trespassing.

These neighbors are people who don't understand rules and won't respond to anything except negative stimulation. Considering their collective brain power equalling somewhere around that of a Chihuahua, he would never get anywhere with them.

The Redditor, u/rodeopete3281, shared their story to Reddit's r/pettyrevenge subreddit, where users applauded his approach.

Timely Memes for People Well Into Their Thirties

When we think about the course of our lives, there are many years that tend to stick out. Our teenage years, for one. Why are they so engrained in our minds? We literally get reminded of them with every new TV show and coming-of-age film that comes out. Why are we still watching them? We couldn't begin to answer that question.

Other ages that come to mind are 21, obviously, and 25 maybe because hey, we can rent a car at that point, that's pretty exciting. The bummer is that it seems like all of the big memorable years end after your 20s and then you just get a nice pat on the back with every additional decade you surpass. Maybe we're just overthinking it though. Who knows?

Anyway, if you're in your thirties and just hoping to relate to something on the internet, look no further. We got you fam.

'He saw my score and asked if we could swap tests': Bad friend exposes lie after student fails a test

This is not the cheating scandal this Redditor clearly thinks it is!

This student's friend failed a math test before a big trip he and his friend group had been planning. Because of the bad performance, the kid's parents would not let him go on vacation. The student asked the Redditor if he would be willing to swap the front page of their copies of the tests so his parents would think he got a B+ and not an F. Not a good idea to lie to your parents about something that will inevitably come out. Still, though, the Redditor initially said yes but then decided to reverse his decision a mere two days before the group trip by calling his friend's parents directly.

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/Stephan2008, who tried to mask a sense of guilt about the lie. Redditors in the comments were quick to point out, however, that the original poster was contributing to a lie that only affected his friend and his family. This wasn't a school cheating scandal; the grades had been recorded and delivered. This was a family matter, and when the Redditor changed his mind, he should have at least given his friend the opportunity to come clean to his parents on his own. For more high school drama, check out this story about an obsessive mom and her daughter's grades.

'We are not going to suffer [...] for our jobs like you boomers': Sick receptionist shamed by HR and guilted into coming to work

When will boomers realize that going to work sick does not make you brave?

According to this anecdote, the answer is probably never. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit by u/Cr0w0naT0mbst0ne, who shared that his coworker and friend - a receptionist - was shamed by HR for getting sick and was guilted into coming to the office despite feeling awful. You'd think a global pandemic and a changing work culture would stop this kind of thing from happening, but boomers are just that stubborn. If these horrible bosses were to ever admit that going to work sick is not a good idea (in fact, as these comments show, it actually costs companies money), that would be admitting that their way of life wasn't healthy. Lord knows boomers will never admit they might have been wrong about something. So basically all of this suffering is a result of people who refuse to see another perspective. It seems more complex and profound than that, but really it's that simple. Let's put an end to this.

'You want me to open the door? I'll open it': Thief tries to steal beer from convenience store, cue malicious compliance

Nothing like doing exactly what someone tells you to do and having it backfire!

This thread was posted to Reddit's r/MaliciousCompliance subreddit by u/Ancient_Educator_76, who should honestly go into short story writing after this brief but entertaining tale of getting back at a would-be thief at the Arizona convenience store where the Redditor worked. It turns out that the button under the counter which automatically locks the front doors actually came to good use at the end of the day.

We love when an ordinary day at work turns into an action-packed sequence where the little guy becomes victorious in the end. It's usually the stuff of fiction, yet this allegedly happened. The original poster also gets extra points for clever references to I Am Legend. For more stories of malicious compliance, take a look at this tale involving a trucking company firing its clients. 'They got into a shouting match': Neighbor blocks sidewalk with SUV and tells other neighbor to report them if they don't like it... The predictable happens

Maybe, just maybe, if you're breaking a rule (or law) and you get into a dispute with someone over you breaking said rule/law… Maybe, it would be best not to dare that person to report you to whatever authority holds jurisdiction over said thing? Just saying… because we keep seeing stories like this and I just don't know what outcome these people are expecting in these circumstances.

'I tell him that it's not really his business but we are sisters': Horrible dad mistakes waitress for his son's teacher and shames her

This is definitely not the kind of thing you want to deal with on your break.

This woman, who works at a Hooters-esque establishment, was shamed during her "vape break" by the parent of one of her identical sister's students. This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/Confident_Bug459, who went on to say that she tried to explain how she and her sister are two different people. The father, of course, did not believe her and continued to shame the waitress for working with children and working at a restaurant like this.

This is where the original poster stood up for herself and cussed this guy out. In case you couldn't tell, we're definitely on her side here. After a long day at work dealing with the customers she has to serve, this woman did not have to also deal with a man like this. We agree with certain Redditors in the comments section who are suggesting that the sister should get ahead of this and contact her boss directly before the dad reports this to the school, which we all know he will. Keep scrolling below for more of those comments!

'I do not do OF, nor have I ever done OF': Waitress recounts terrible treatment from group of teen terrors

There's nothing that makes you feel so entirely helpless as being bullied by children. It's this weird catch-22 where you both are unable to retaliate but are rendered completely vulnerable by their cutting words. Kids know exactly what to say to cut you down, and their frank honesty can leave you with no retort or means for retaining your pride.

This is even worse when you're in a customer service role. Being bullied by anyone in a customer service role feels like crap, but when it's kids doing it, you still have to keep wearing that customer service smile for fear of summoning their equally ill-behaved parents on yourself.

When Reddit user u/BothCheeks729 found herself being targeted by a gaggle of ill-mannered and vengeful teenagers she found herself embroiled in a saga of drama and lies that reads like it's straight out of a high school television show. When she attempted to handle the situation by mentioning the problem to an adult in the girls' circle, the girls turned to spreading rumors about her and told her manager that she had an 'Only Fans' account.
