There are times when "sorry" really just isn't enough… Getting demoted for an incident that happened while you weren't even working—so that the boss's friend can be promoted into your role—is one of those times. You'd probably expect that you'd be given your job back—at the very least—hopefully accompanied by some form of serious apology or recompense. But an apology by itself, in acknowledgment of the mistake, without overturning wrongly given punishment—simply doesn't cut it.
