'Every day I took something away': Landlord rents room in his house to tenant, tenant keeps inviting guests over, landlord gets back at him

This landlord turned a sweet deal into a living nightmare. It's remarkable how much power landlords have when it comes to living conditions. If they want to be hospitable and generous, it's well within their power to life easier for tenants and to gain their loyalty and trust. However, if you cross them, be prepared for the wrath of an angry landlord.

That's exactly what happened when this tenant signed a lease to live in one of the bedrooms of a two-bedroom house, owned and occupied by a homeowner-turned-landlord. This landlord was a bit naive when drafting the lease and didn't include a verbal agreement for the tenant to not invite guests over more than twice a month (this, in and of itself, is a ridiculous request). However, when the tenant began bringing what seemed to be his girlfriend over pretty much every night of the week, the landlord decided it was time to end being Mr. Nice Guy. He confronted the tenant, who then said that this verbal agreement about guests was not written into the lease and therefore did not need to be followed.

That's when the landlord decided to pursue a little malicious compliance. He started to take away all the communal privileges that were not expressly covered in the lease as a bit of malicious compliance. It was only a matter of time before things got too heated (and unlivable) for the tenant.
