Every so often, you get to re-enforce your own boss's strict rule back at them. Not only is this a rewarding experience for you as the employee, but also you get to expose to your boss just how ludicrous the rule was in the first place. This thread was posted to Reddit by u/skanus_cepelinai, who used to give all prospective employees complimentary coffee during their interviews until their CEO made it a rule that any event that's not a "whole day" event cannot provide free coffee.
Seems to be a ridiculous way to cut down on "unnecessary expenses," and the employee found the perfect opportunity to prove that this was the case. When OP was hosting a workshop event in the office and the CEO asked if he could get a coffee, the employee took a leisurely sip from their travel mug before re-enforcing the rule that since this wasn't a full-day event, there would be no free coffee. And that, sir, is what you get for being ridiculous.
For more stories like this, here's another about an employee who got cheated out of his bonus.
