The illusion that all teachers are benevolent beings—there to teach you the shining light of their ways and the depths of their infinite knowledge—is shattered when you reach higher education. There you become faced with the reality that is a world of disgruntled, entitled adults with domineering attitudes who are determined to pass on—with unfettered rage—the types of institutional wrongdoings that were done to them.
It's the type of attitude you face time and time again as a young adult: "I had to deal with it, and now so do you," an ageist ritual of ensuring that no young upstart usurps the natural order by stepping on their neck quickly—and as often as possible. It doesn't matter what novel ideas you have to share or personal experience and skills you have to offer—the institution requires that you face this time and time again until you relent to your place in the world.
There's often little, or nothing, that you can do to remedy this course… unless your entire class decides they aren't putting up with it any longer, as these students did when faced with the autocratic culture of their veterinary school.
