Not only did the Redditor become estranged from his mother after her infidelity, but he also became estranged from his sister, who clearly played no part in the divorce herself. By the time OP met his wife, he informed her about these difficult dynamics, and while it might have been inappropriate of her to engage in communication with her sister-in-law's husband, at least she did something to try to mend the relationship. All her husband was doing was stewing and taking the very questionable advice of his dad, who seemed to be driving a wedge between his son and his daughter-in-law. Messy!
