Here's a friendly reminder that when you're off the clock, you don't owe anyone anything! This thread, which was posted to Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit by u/Thuctran1706, is just further proof of that fact.
In this instance, the company was off for Christmas but there was an off-the-clock team social gathering that the original poster was invited to attend. Perhaps the Redditor shouldn't have told a white lie that they were out of the city and instead just explained that they wanted to spend the day off with their partner, but what was way worse was the Redditor's horrible boss requesting photographic proof that they were out of the city. That's obviously wildly inappropriate and also just not something the original poster should feel obligated to follow up with in any way. When you're off, you're off! Social work gatherings after hours are simply not a required part of the job unless you're getting paid for that time.
