When you've been married to or dating someone for years it's easy to get complacent and think that you know everything there is to know about them. It can be surprising then when they then throw something at you completely out of left field. It's in those moments that you're then reminded just how deep different facets of ourselves can be buried.
This combined with the fact that who we are is constantly shifting, growing, and changing can hopefully keep things interesting enough in a long-term relationship. That begs the question, is it ever possible to truly know someone in their entirety?
If someone can hide such a vital part of their personality for as long as this husband did then we would be led to think that the answer to that question would be a resounding no. After all, pickle preference is an important aspect of a relationship.
As commenters have pointed out, pickle preference is a bit like "The Olive Theory" from How I Met Your Mother.
